The Pirates will always be my favorite MLB team. I am a fan of baseball first though. 2011 will be a better year. No doubt about it. I hope mercer does another video for 11'. Lets Go Bucs.
I think our only hope for competitive baseball in Pittsburgh is a boycott. they built that stadium so they are not going anywhere. Lets starve them out and make the owners sell or even better make them put pressure on MLB to get a salary cap. until then its Pittsburgh baseball who? and MLB what? I dont and wont care. baseball in pittsburgh is headed for 50 losing seasons in a row unless WE do something. We have to push it away before we can get IT back.
I'm torn. I like your video and I USED to be a huge Pirate fan. I don't know how you do it. How do you still root for and follow this team? I myself have boycotted MLB and the pirates. I wont attend or watch any game until MLB wakes up like the other mayjor sports and gets a salary cap. Our Pens and steelers can compete with the NYGiants, NYJets, NYRangers, and islanders because thier sport has a cap. But the bucs dont come close to competing with NY in baseball...
Well I love to love this team but I just can't deal with it anymore with all the guys they let go over the years. You know between 2000 and 2003, this team had a Top 10 farm system in the majors every year. They had decent ball players that you would love to have on your team.
I mean they couldn't hang onto let's see, Brian Giles, Aramis Ramirez, Pokey Reese, Kris Benson, Kip Wells, Jason Bay, Xavier Nady, Freddie Sanchez, Adam Laroche, Nate McLouth, Jack Wilson.
@threedaysawesome wait wait wait so mclouth is better than mcuttchen wilson is doing real good in triple A sanches is hurt again adam larouche suks soooooooo badly wat about tabata, and alveraz jason bay went from team to team and now is in triple a again so ya nice line up
Greg! I loved your video! I am a lifelong suffering Pirates fan living in AZ and it almost felt like me up there talking while I watched your video! You did a great job of giving credit where it's due but having the cynicism merited by all the front office flops these past 17 years. Oh well, it's mid-July when I'm writing this and most of yoyr predictions are spot on! Go Bucs!
dude the pirates just suck. like flat out suck. the only position player that has a chance to start on another mlb team is andrew mccutchen. And meek is the only pitcher that has a chance to be a set up
hey Greg, are you a sabermetrics guy? if Charlie Morton throws pitches that can get hit that hard, his BABIP will be over .300, he will have to locate his pitches better, in this case its not about luck..........however he has been locating better in his last two starts
@buenaqb12 His BABIP is way over .300 which is not sustainable. I think he will get better. I said he'd figure something out in the 2nd half...so I'm safe until then.
@gangstacrap Just like I said last year...enjoy it while you can just in case! Still 150 games to go. Call me again if they are still over .500 at the All-Star Break. Then I'll believe this team could be special. I will fully admit right now I am pleasantly surprised.
I agree with almost all your analysis, but I disagree on Jeff Clement and the # of wins. Clement I think is going to come around and probably be a 6th-spot power bat in the lineup. He'll be a good complement the Jones and Doumit who will probably fill the 4th and 5th spots once Alvarez gets here (who I expect to be placed at the 3rd spot in the lineup). Also, I think some interesting things are going to happen this year and the Pirates will win 75. The 2nd half of the year will be very exciting
how are we all feelin now?? 3-2 im so far impressed, we almost lost last night though, lol, bitting those fingure nails, i dont think we have one of the "strongest" bullpens in the mlb, let alone the national divisions, im just happy we were able to beat the dodgers, lol, i think duke and mcCutchen are our strongest pitchers, GO BUCS!!!! and i love the jeff clement breakdown you did btw, "its not Clemente as bad as i know you want it to be" lmao
@epi9 Feeling about as good as you can when you lose games 15-6, 9-1, and 10-2. As you will hear in my next video (which will be posted tonight), this team is either really good or really bad. It's only a matter of time until the team wears down and starts to be even less competitive.
pittsburghsteelersts is right.look at the last two games bucs won.i know that is not the whole season but the first regular season game the "leagend" Garret Jones hit 2 homeruns then last night he hit another.all i am trying to say is it looks like we may have a chanse at the playoffs
@grapplepin Too early to say, and don't forget that Bryan Morris was the main piece in that deal. Wait to see if he pans out before saying we got nothing. Morris is looking good in A-ball right now.
im guessing 58 wins. the bullpen is terrible. and they wont be able to hit left handed pitching worth a darn. against righties you will see some 6 and 7 run games but the bullpen will blow half of them.
Zach, Ross, Paul, Chuck, and Dan make up a very deep rotation as there is very little dropoff from Zach Duke to Daniel McCutchen, and you are not an educated baseball fan if you dont recognize the Pirates have one of the strongest bullpens in baseball, they dont have those guys who walk everybody anymore, 80-90 wins atleast for this team
You are not an educated baseball fan if you do not look at the career numbers of these players and predict accordingly. Yes, the back end of the bullpen is at best more "seasoned." Bullpens only help so much when the Pirates' offense will struggle to score runs most of the year. You are dreaming an unrealistic dream to think this team will win more than 75 games. Just like last year, don't get caught up in the early hype.
Ryan Doumit is a stud! Jeff Clement is a true Major League batter who will be very successful(Former first round pick for a reason), Garret Jones wants to win, Lastings Milledge is has shown great work ethic in Pittsburgh, and Andrew McCutchen is outstanding
We could have had Bay, Nady, McLouth, McCutchen, Jones, Doumit, Wilson, and Freddie Sanchez. Trade any of those two players for proven starting pitchers as opposed to unproven draft picks and we have a playoff team. So very depressing.....
Great job again Greg...I'll be interested to see how close you come. Hopefully you are wrong, for Pittsburgh's sake, but sounds like you thought more about the season than the organization.
