  • Ok. tofu belongs in the dumpster but the rest is all good.

  • tofu! id rather eat soil.

  • Went to a dumpster at the Marina and found a whole toolbox full of hand tools.

  • u know what relly sux more then this is going to the Dump and finding good computers/stuff that still works but cant take them home thou

  • @sonicxlc123 same prob i mean they started a law last year to stop diving the dump i mean i was pissed cuz i took alot of scrap and helped finish some projects around my parents house but really why?? i mean why can't we stop people from leaving crap for future peeps to dig up and fix XD

  • @RogueCrockett idk its dam idiots runining the law and want money off this stuff

  • @sonicxlc123 i guess then i shouldnt care i mean the golden excuse is looking for boxes, cans, or paperwork XD

  • around here most unsold food is given to thrift stores and charities. so there isnt much to find in that fashion. but on sunday if i go to the goodwill store after close there is always a dumpster full of items. alot which i have sold and used. i jus tfound a almost brand new pair of nike tennis shoes which i am wearing now. saved me at least $60. im not sure if they are throwing out unsold items. but i suspect that the workers at the end of the day just toss them away instead of processing them

  • @tubofbologna sometimes workers stash stuff in the dumpster XD for retreival later....... also i will remember the goodwill thx for da tip

  • @RogueCrockett stay away from my goodwill! lol

  • @tubofbologna lol

  • ever find a dead body?

  • @tubofbologna a dead security guard that tried to jam up my gig

  • someone had to buy them first....

  • I want to do this, but I'm scared as well.

  • @jwdesign336 nerves are the hardest thing to overcome.......... i mean today i just took some stuff from my neighbors dumpster and there where no cops no swat team no angry attack dogs or idiots with guns just free stuff and i am sure if they did catch me i would assure them that it wouldn't end up in the landfill XD

  • i dont get the point. you dont like the companies that produce the products, but you dont mind eating/using their products as long as you dont give money to said business, sure i get that on some level. But still, for every scavenged product, there's someone who already paid for it in the first place, so it doesnt really make any financial difference for the coorps. I have nothing against what you do, i just dont get how a sneaky covert activity that doesnt affect capitalistic gain makes a diff.

  • @paijire i know right i hate hippie banter but they do have a point free stuff and food is still what i just said saves me money XD

  • I got a couple of lawn chairs out of a dumpster. Keep diving!

  • $200 of tofu!!!! OMgzZZzz.

Nah but really, i haven't done a food shop really (Apart from bread flour) since 2010, i am a dumspter diving addict (we call it skipping in the UK)

  • the cops don't need a warrant to search your garbage only once you place the bin on the street. if it's in your garage or behind your house, they a warrant is still needed. most commercial dumpsters are on private property. when you (and i) go out diving, we are not stealing, we are trespassing.

  • This one guy went dumpster diving and managed to regularly get his hands on so much thrown out surplus stock that he was able to then go and make a big business out of selling it. Amazing.

  • A WHOLE BOX OF KIT KATS!!!!

  • You don't dumpster dive to one up the man you do it for fun you damn new age hippies have ruined another thing i enjoyed.

  • @officerbawden17 i know right XD

  • I think dumpster diving is great. I have no problem with picking up furniture or other items my neighbors have left on the street. However, I wish you young people would learn the difference between corporatism and capitalism. The problems in this country do NOT stem from capitalism. The liberal brainwashing of the younger generation sickens me.

  • Its good to do it in the USA by in my country shops still respect food and other things so you dont find something really usefull...But its better to look in the PAPER dumpsters i often find books and magazines once i found a WW2 diary of a pilot that was on the eastern front i bet the family didnt have time to look for what were they throwing out.

  • Don't let the cop shit you, if it's in the dumpster it's fair game.

    It's a law.

  • @DammitDrag That is actually not true at all. That particular dumpster is property of Kmart and we were trespassing on Kmart's property. That is very illegal.

  • @DammitDrag i agree dude i mean i hate it when people get shafted over taking shit away from a landfill XD also im not here to save the planet but at least i get to eat, wear decent clothes, furnish apartment and not spend a fucking dime!!

  • I found lots of stuff dumpster diving at certain drug stores..

  • hit RADIO SHACKS

  • Where can I get more of "Two in the Pink's" music?

  • thats dumb as hell its in the dumpster so obviosly the dont want or need it anymore!

  • Do You Really Dumpster Dive?

  • @Clorox43434 , yes

  • Today i found a lawnmower, weight bench and a 45inch tv in dumpsters. What the hell is wrong with people.

  • @Timmaculate83 ... crap I need a lawnmower, nice finds... Thanks for watching

  • @Timmaculate83 lol...I don't know whats wrong with people... I found a 36'' lcd flat screen that some idiot threw out..I brought it home and fixed it. That's a $1200 tv for free! I check a few spots every other day. Most are upscale rich areas where people throw out anything and everything. You can get rich by doing this if you know what you are doing. Follow obituaries. When someone dies check in front of their house for relatives throwing stuff away! I've been doing this since i was 8 yrs :D

  • Good to hear some proper dumpster diving etiquette!

We need to Recycle the world

  • I've been diving for years and found some really amazing stuff. It never fails to astonish me as to what companies throw away as "junk". My current P4, 2.7Ghz computer was salvaged from a company because the HD went bad. Replaced HD, new computer for me. (shrug) . I also just sold 4 LCD projector bulbs and netted around $400.00. (The LCD projector had broken and the company threw out the new bulbs with the broken projector.) - Dave.

  • if you ask wal-mart or k-mart managers if you can do it and explain too them that you are doing very bad financially or are helping out your poor family or are in college and want too spend your money on education or whatever they'll let you. as long as your not a douche about it.

  • It seems like bartering would be a safer and more productive way of acquiring goods. You could set up a college specific website that allows college students to barter, or just give stuff away that they don't want.

I don't like the idea of a $1000 fine for dumster diving. Eventually, you are gong to run into troulbe either from the cops, or from street people, or from a paranoid schoziphrenic on the street who sees you as tresspassing on his teritory.

Life is a jungle. Nothing is free

  • there is a barter system online it is called craigslist... thanks for watching

  • Hey cal vrs. greenwood check out this ruling cops kiss it

  • Great video.I'm very glad to see i'm not the only one out there that can see the problems with our current culture. Thanks to my new found hobby I just got myself $50.00 worth in free veggies, fruit, and frozen meats.

  • Consumption and waste happens in wealthy societies regardless of capitalism or not.

  • I think its ridic. they throw away clothing that is completely new! There are ppl out there that can'teven afford a t-shirt, donate that stuff ya stupid ass corporations!!

  • Don't you realize that it's the FDA that requires these stores to throw out all that food? It has nothing to do with the Corporations. The Corps. are responsible for the mass production of food we shouldnt even be eating. These kids are anti-consumerists NOT anti-capitalists.

  • awesome vid, 5 stars

  • so basically you're mooching off of the hard working peasants in third world countries who made probably $30.00 a month too make those products? don't get me wrong i don't believe in wasting stuff and making sure i don't mess up the environment. it just seems like mooching, if you dont want support capitalism go to a home improvement store dig through their trash for seeds to grow plants. uh oh I'm bout to use the most hated word, buy a sewing kit and repair your own clothes.

  • ok you my friend are part of the problem, so you say its mooching, but to allow it to be destroyed when it can go for its purpose is what? FUCKING RIDICULOUS!! get over yourself.

  • to throw away all that food is ridiculous

  • well done

  • This was great! I found myself some large carpet remnants, that i cut and use as rugs now, (they still had the new-carpet smell when i took them!) A laptop, which i'm using right now :) a seat (from a mini-van) and more! not to mention, plenty of food, i burn most of my waste, as long as its not bad for the e environment, and put bio-degradable stuff in a hole i dug in my back yard :)

  • 40 % of food in the US gets wasted :O

  • Love it dude. Never encountered a prob with the law when dumpster diving. Its legal in Illinois to dumpster dive so i take advantage of it. Add this peice of information to your next Documentry. Dont dive in rich clothing becuase that would give off a bad vib to the police. Dont bring a huge group diving becuase it means there will be less for you and it will also grab more attention with everyone standing outside the dumpster.

  • DD FTW!

  • Well, sure you are keeping things out of landfills...sort of. Except, if that stuff is in a dumpster it probably means it's already been replaced. And eventually all that stuff you "saved" is going to wind up as waste. Even the food you get comes back as many types of waste. OR maybe you hate capitalism so much that you've stopped pooping? So then there's just the packaging..mostly plastic that is not cost-effective to recycle or coated and non-recyclable. nice try though.

  • Thanks for watching!

  • You never heard the term "Reduce RE-USE RECYCLE"? At least it isn't sitting on a landfill taking up space unused. There's all kinds of benefits to dumpster diving - plus it's fun! If you've never tried it, you'll never know...You mean to say you've never found an awesome piece of furniture on the street and taken it home? I have- all the time. I live in NYC and it is INCREDIBLE the things people throw out.

  • Yep, I have heard of it. I'm just saying that the stuff that comes out of dumpsters has probably already been replaced in the store w/ new stuff that is going to end up in another dumpster a week later Also eventually, everything gets "recycled" into waste. Eat a bag of Doritos from the dumpster and you still have to do something with the bag they came in (non-recyclable waste). Then later you're going to poop out most of those chips because they're not nutritious. It's a nice try, like I said.

  • God another dumb shit

  • Comment removed

  • Nice documentary, keep on Dumpster Diving.

    - From a danish dumpster diver.

  • me and my friend are gonna go on our first dive friday. can't wait

  • awesome vid!

  • Amazing video. I do the same thing in my area, and I feel the same way. Fortunately I have never ran into the police doing this. And they have the nerve to call this a free country. And to the ignorant douche whole told these kids to get real jobs, i would just like to tell you, that i have a real job. I make enough money to buy food and clothes, but why would I, if i could get it for free?

  • thanks for watching!

  • Wow, you are a very ignorant person. Maybe read a book? I like how you are talking about something that you have no idea about. I dumpster dive and i am straight edge. I have been for 20 years now. So please, stop breathing!

  • this was supposed to be a reply to VanDub, but it posted it up here for some reason.

  • money money money money is is that all you have on your mind VanDub?? you cant eat money you cant wear money money cant provide you with true happiness in the end its completely worthless..

    keep diving! =]

  • im a fellow diver!

Me and my homies never take food though

like they said, its completely safe.

and it helps recycle things that are perfectly good.

and its really fun me and my friends love it.

  • Great video... Really explains the whole 'situation' relating to dumpster diving. Keep at it ! (From the British arm of DDing). :-)

  • Thank you keep dumpster diving! It is totally safe.

  • Good video, my first apartment was entirely furnished from throw away stuff. I wonder if you started a food bank for students and talked to the store owners if they would save the items and call you when they wanted to get rid of them. I imagine they are just afraid of someone getting hurt in the dumpster and being sued. Just a thought!

  • They legally have to throw it out as soon as it passes the sell by date. Not the eat by date, The sell by date, so they are throwing out perfectly good food. Sucks!

  • I'm sorry about the thin gs i said you had a good idea peace :)

  • was that chips you were holding omg they were closed bags i go dump diving for real I roll in crud and get vcr's tv's and crud but not food

  • We always find lots of good sealed food. never gotten sick. They dont throw it away cause it is bad they throw it away because it is in seasonal packages like easter and the day after easter they will throw it all out when the food is perfectly good. Maybe they could donate to local homeless shelters but they don't corporations just throw it out and do not care :(

  • what the hell I go dumpster diving i don't eat trash

  • Stupid lefties!!! Long life capitalism!!! This whole video is a bunch of garbage! I won't stop shopping at Walmart!

  • Thanks for Watching!

  • I used to score all kinds of cool stuff as a kid in dumpsters behind stores, products, fixtures, magazines, always loved to be scrounging around in there. I think if you did it with two people and skipped the flashlights, kept your heads down, you'd have a lot less run ins with the man. We used to duck when the beat cop came around, and hold our breath.

  • that was a great documentary. i dumpster dive here and there but i never realized you could find food in dumpsters...nice.

  • I have to ask: Where the hell are you dumpster diving to score all that stuff? Damn....... I just got back after a long night of dumpster diving.. Awesome when you're broke! A bunch of us are trying to kick up a local Food Not Bombs where I'm at. I got lots of barely bruised produce I'm preparing to hook up, but tofu? Chips? The closest I came was almost scoring a few boxes of gardenburger from trader joes.. Then I found out they empty the packages so no one can have the food.. ASSHOLES

  • I love how the police do not need a warant to search your trash, as it is considered public domain, but the second someone goes in looking for themselves its a problem.

Good times.....But then again fucking hippies, every last one of them are the spoiled children of the middle class. Without capitalism their wouldnt be a dumpster full of financialy expendable products for you to dig through.

  • @tophatsaremagic capitalism created this waste and the people who suffer to the point where they need to dig through dumpsters to survive. calling people who are without food 'spoiled children of the middle class' is probably the dumbest fucking statement i've ever read. and for jaykay below, corporatism is capitalism. stfu.

  • lol

  • Does anyone know of any dumpster diving-organisations in Sweden? Appreciate any help or response... Thx

    Good clip by the way...

  • ask around

there are some people that do it,

    they're fringe people of course,

    usually connected to environmental movements,

    outdoor lifestyle, veganism, etc

  • I'm a righteous dumpster diver dude. I get all of my apparel, From the bottom of a barrel. All my favorite music, Someone else refused it, My letterhead has many styles, Because it comes from the circular file. If it's in a bottle or a can, Then I figure that I can, Eat it all up, Without throwing up! I go to Campus every spring, To look for all of the good things, That people throw away, Because they go away.
  • this is really good...Thanks for this video, it inspired me...

  • My boyfriend made the comment below using my account.

It's true we have been Dumpster Diving, and consider ourselves Freegans (in a sense - I'm veg, he's not). But we feel that we shouldn't contribute to big name companies, and instead of sitting back and doing nothing while they throw out perfectly useful goods - we'll take them, and do something better with those goods.

Happy Dumpster Diving to all other Freegans out there!! ;c)

  • i really liked this video, because it just shows how much of a pig the us is. there is no need to throw away good food. you saw the stuff they got boxes of skittles bags of chips... i've dumpster dived in western Massachusetts and i have a job and car i dont need to dumpster dive but some people do.

we dont want to buy your crap, we just want your scraps!!!!!

  • theirs nothing wrong dumpster diving. its like your just nosing around. and if you look in the dumpster. and find something you like. would you grab it

  • i dont find food. just other better things

  • The anti-capitalist barter system is just as capitalist as the monetary system. You're either trading time, risks, danger and labor for immediate food and clothing, or you're getting the clothing from the paper money you bartered for your time, danger, labor, and risks at your job. To say that dumpster diving is anti-capitalism is just a shortcut to saying "I don't want to work because everyone else does."

  • Nice documentary, 5 stars

  • Ummm... you don't have to be anti-capitalist to DD. They don;t go hand-in-hand. You can be disgusted and saddened by waste and be a conservative, capitalist. :D

  • Well I dumpster dove right next to the federal building in Sav, Ga. sevral official cars and cops drove by and I had no problems. However I do ask permission at those big box stores and most don't care..

  • Isnt stuff thrown away public domain, is this legal

  • No you can't throw stuff into dumpsters or take stuff out unless you have premission from the owner of the dumpster. What the officer said was true but keep diving youll be suprised at what people throw away.

  • some places they dont care b/c its less that they have to spend money to thro out anyway maybe the pickup company charges the business by the pound, yeah like taking a few pounds of electronic shit is gonna save much maybe a few busted ipods which is what I go for electronic shit I fix it up and use it or gut it if i cant fix

  • thanks you guys-inconceivable to me why they wouldn't have taken these products to a food bank to start-they reason they don't is quite obvious. walmart et al are NOT the corporate citizen donors they ought to be.

does your college have a food bank, or a soup kitchen?

I donate/buy at St. Vincent de Paul, Value Village and the Salvation Army here in Canada.

    thank you dumpster divas.

  • i cant beleive that powertriped cop is warning you guys. the stuff only ends ups at the tip, its rubbish

  • yeah SMILE OFFICER YOUR ON YOUTUBE

  • sweeeeeeet.

  • This is an awesome & infomative documentary on diving. 5-Stars!
