"Pastor Terry Jones is a Disgrace!" Why, because you are a Christian who feels embarrassed and would rather that Terry not exercise his freedom of speech and tell the truth? What is disgraceful is PEOPLE LIKE YOU who are more concerned about keeping up appearances than dealing with hard truths.
He didn't preach any truths. The act of burning the Qur'an didn't advance the truth of Christianity in any way. All it did was harm Muslim/Christian relations and put people at risk of attack. The offence of the gospel is the cross of Christ. We don't need additional offence to that.
@ukchristian28 "He didn't preach any truths." Yes, he did. Relatively speaking and metaphorically as well Islam is the MOST violent and depraved of all the major religions. The fact that the majority of Egyptians voted for Islamists attests to this FACT. "Burning the Koran does advance the truth" because people can see to what degree Muslims are against non-Islamic values.
Muslims tend to go on the war path whenever anyone insults them and the media sympathizes them. Whenever Christians protest, the media laughs at them.
I am almost positive there have been several bible burnings by muslims groups in the past.
Muslims are over reacting. I don't agree with Pastor Jones but he has every right to burn the Quran and i don't hate him for it nor do i think he is scum.
How far would you take that? Would you be willing to stangle an Arab baby in its crib or thow a wheelchair bound 90 year old Arab woman from the top of a building?
@ukchristian28 answer my question first please. You say Jones "provoked" them into violence but tell me what "provokes" them to hang gays, stone women, cover women with bin liners, continue with child marriage (aka child rape) etc etc? Well? Can't you answer?
@ukchristian28 You claimed that Jones provoked the savage criminals. Are you treating them differently from other savage criminals who kill and maim? If so, why? Any reason? Other than the fact you see them as defending retarded "Godly" works?
Muslims just need to be eliminated in Israel, the UK, and other western countries through mass deportation. If they deconvert or undergo vasectomy/tubal ligation, they they could stay.
Check out Ann Barnhardts video. I am guessing she will be murdered within the year by muslim extremists.....she gave our her address on YT and told people to "come get me" right after she burned Mohammeds Manifesto on Evil and pedophilia (oh wait, its called the Koran). No way they will let her life. WOW. I don't know if that was stupid or brave....probably both
Trace, you're just being irrational now. It should have been clear from my video alone that I don't view the extremists who killed those people as "poor little lambs" or that they are absolved from blame because they were provoked. They are the scum of the earth. They should be held accountable. I would even go as far as saying they should be hanged. Terry Jones played a part in what happened and bears responsibility with them. That is my point.
I have major issues with Islam and major issues with the Koran but I have some with Jones too. People in the past have burned the Torah and Talmud and burned Jews. Would Jones be willing to burn Muslims?

That statment advocates the murder of people...like me. Those who burn books are just one stop away from burning people
@DarkQuietWyattON Not true Wyatt. Book burners have been around since year dot. It doesn't mean they're going to burn people too. A book is a book and in the case of the scriptures is only good for toilet roll
@tracemckenzie2009 Again, I just don't see how burning the book would help. I hate the book but we need to change the ideas. Yes, book burners have been around since there were books but the books that were usually burned, were Jewish books....then Jewish people. I don't want to begin talking about the pull starts as the nazi's talked about us.I don't like their religion that teaches hate and violence but I am not willing to kill those who do not attack me. I won't become a Jewish nazi
@DarkQuietWyattON Lots of books have been burned, not just Jewish books. Women also burned their bra's en masse years ago too! It doesn't necessarily mean "Kill". The most offensive thing to burn to many people is the flag of your country. To many people, that's an absolute "no no". However, Muslim countries have been burning the US and British flag for years, repeatedly, for different reasons. Did the Brits and yanks go out and riot and kill? No. Why? because we're civilized, and they're NOT!
@tracemckenzie2009 That is not true about Columbine. Those guys had friends and THEY were the bullies, going so far as to have a web page dedicated to killing one of the people they actually did kill. They attacked the cafeteria and library where they could simply pick off the most people. They were both emotionally disturbed and fed each other. They also both had girlfriend and attended the prom.
Killers do often become isolated and feel society hurt them but many people feel that way....
@tracemckenzie2009 Cont...and they don't go out and kill people. You can't blame the victims of Columbine or anywhere else for the actions or social isolatin ofthe killers.
Jones was an idiot but he had every right to do what he did. However my issue is that he put the Koran on trial and said the punishment was burning. Ok...if you remember many Christians put the Torah and Talmud on trial and burned it.....and then burned us.
I am only saying there was a better way of doing it
@tracemckenzie2009 I agree that the pull starts are doing this to themselves and Karzi is the one with the blood on his hands BUT I didn't like the way Jones did it. As the old quote goes, I have found that those who are willing to burn books are often willing to burn the people who read them, whether they actually or do or not" and as we know, in many cases in history, they have been more than willing.
The Koran is awful. Muslim culture is awful but Jones is just an attention seeking whore
Jones burned his own personal property. 10,000 miles away, the president of a nation that the US is attempting to assist, gave a speech to his own people telling them of this event otherwise unreported except for a youtube video and inspired a large crowd of religious Muslims to kill over 20 people and commit acts of arson. There is blood on Karazai's hands, on Islam, on the people who did the actual rioting and killing. But not one drop on Jones anymore than on people who burn Mein Kampf.
I think his point is probably that people can be manipulated by any ideology. If there was no religion then leaders would manipulate with the ideologies that replaced them. Of course, that people abuse ideologies says nothing as to the truth or validity of the ideologies themselves, which is why pointing it out doesn't really work too well as an objection against them.
@liberalsRhypocrites You don't need religion to manipulate the masses. You can use religion of course, but there are thousands of avenues you can explore in the fine art of manipulation. A good manipulator can use almost anything to meet his ends. Nobody does it better than religion? I beg to differ.
@hippo11222 yes, you can use different means to an end, but religion? Man, for thousands of yrs just look at the Catholic Church, look at the crusades. Take Muslims extremists, or look at modern day israel. How did Jim Jones get people to drink poison??? Religion. Are you a person of faith? if so, what is your religion?
@liberalsRhypocrites You really think this is surprising to me? The majority of people are religious, so religion is a big part of the social sphere. So naturally, social conflicts will tend to involve religion. Are you really surprised by these things?Social conflicts occur all the time. I don't try to single the religious out. I tend to view them as individuals and to hold them responsible for their actions.Stalin killed millions without religion. His nationalistic ambitions cost Russia millions.
@hippo11222 No, I'm not surprised. Social conflicts do occur and usually in the name of God. I think if religion were taken out of the big picture they would less because people minds would be opened up with the lack of superstitions to clutter the ol' noggin. Also, Stalin was an atheist, however, his regime wasn't. Also, he didn't commit his atrocities in the name of atheism as opposed to the many atrocities commited in the name of God. There is a difference.
@liberalsRhypocrites And yet he did not need God to commit the atrocities that he committed. The man was also fervent anti-theist that burned down churches, tortured clergymen, and denied the religious admission to Universities because they were theists. Many of the Communists like Stalin and Lennon wrote volumes of how to abolish religion of the face of the earth, even if it meant doing it by force.
And your view that social conflicts would lessen if religion were taken out of the picture seems unrealistic to me. Its in your view that religion is superfluous, but I assure you that from the religious person's perspective it is not. They are just as much a part of human civilization as you.
@hippo11222 It seems unrealistic to you because you have your head in the bronze age. I mean you believe in talking plants and reptiles, and that people can change molecules and turn water into wine with only mind power. I never said they aren't part of human civilization, you are just putting words into my mouth the same way you put artificial fact into your head.
@liberalsRhypocrites And bringing this up with other religious individuals is the classic tactic of guilt by association. Ukchristian28 is standing up against Terry's bigoted intolerance towards Muslims. I believe this to be a noble stance to be opposition to what Terry is doing.
Terry Jones is making a disgrace of himself and I implore all those watching to refrain from modeling his behavior, which is frankly deplorable to say the least.
@liberalsRhypocrites "I think a world without man made religions would be better."
And your proof of this is......?
A majority of wars are fought over conflicting self interests. If you think it's just religion that causes problems then you really aren't holding the individuals themselves responsible for their actions. Your ignoring almost all the other motivational factors for war; territory expansion, amassing more resources and establishing a power base. Way more to add then I can list.
@hippo11222 I don't need to proof to think the world would be better off without man made religions, that's my personal opinion. A majority of the wars are fought over self interests, I would agree with that; however, religion is used to manipulate, and control the individuals fighting the wars. Some people are just too susceptible to illusions. Those people are religious.

@Gunderson002 It calls for murder, you SHOULD know this...
"The punishment of those who WAGE WAR WITH ALLAH and His apostle and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should be MURDERED or CRUCIFIED or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous chastisement,"
It is most likely Pastor Terry Jones is the one who was betrayed. Those who send him those books, where are you now? How about which vision of the Book is burn, name the translator and the Publisher, The Arabic Language and any other languages are very regional based, only those who care about his/her own people would get it translated well in true colour, those trying to impress other people about himself (and for the money) wouldn't do any good. Suggest a ENG version JUST for the Prophet.
I think the dislike was from Migkillertwo. He doesn't agree that we should hold Jones responsible for the deaths and should lay the blame only at the feet of the people who committed the violence. Were as I do agree that legally Jones has done nothing wrong, his action was irresponsible and did incite the violence. I think it fair to say therefore that he has blood on his hands.
I completely agree. I was outraged when I heard about this. The violence in Libya is finally settling, and now we have riots because of this man's act of hatred. How are we supposed to reach Muslims if we don't treat them with love? Burning a piece of literature that they consider sacred is a display of bigotry.
Fuck that. The only ones responsible for this violence are the muslims themselves. Crazies halfway around the world are not going to endanger our right to express our beliefs or lack thereof.
With freedom of speech comes responsibility. The bloodshed occured because Jones was irresponsible with his exercise of it. We have a legal right to say what we will, but if our words cause people to die have blood on our hands.
However, I'm not the least bit surprised, I mean, if we allowed one religion to rule the world, other religions books would have to go somewhere... and it would probably be by burning.
However, this causes a lot of outrage, because the Nazi's burned books as well.
In addition to bringing disrepute upon the Gospel, his actions only complicate the problem of dealing with the threat from Islamic extremism such that it actually exists. While I don't think there is a moral equivalence between burning a book and killing innocent people, I certainly agree that Jones' actions merit condemnation.

"Terry Jones has blood on his hands"
Fuck that. The only ones responsible for this violence are the muslims themselves. Crazies halfway around the world are not going to endanger our right to express our beliefs or lack thereof.

@migkillertwo
With freedom of speech comes responsibility. The bloodshed occured because Jones was irresponsible with his exercise of it. We have a legal right to say what we will, but if our words cause people to die have blood on our hands.

You said it all when you called Pastor Jones a disgrace. What more can be said?

@kris01987
I am interested to see if he approves this a response to his video announcing the event. I somehow doubt he will:).

I don't think I've met a Christian who can take the title, "Christian Representative."
Each Christian group seems to focus on one aspect of their religion or holy book, and that's what they are known by.
The WBC for example, is clear cut Old Testament, I'm not sure if they believe in Jesus, all they say half the time is "The Lord your God."
Anyway, it makes no difference to me what religious people do anymore.

Burning books in general is stupid.

@OCaoimhghin Just to be clear, I am not suggesting you drew such a moral equivalence. You were clear in making the distinction.

He's a crazy charismatic. What do you expect?

I don't care if he burns Korans, but when it causes harm to Christians in countries that are primarily Muslim, then I have a problem.
