Honolulu gross liquor sales from late night bars; 2003 = $34.1 million 2004 = $34.8 million 2005 = $35.1 million 2006 = $36.4 million 2007 = $29.27 million post ban -20% RAW Number of stand-lone bars 2003 = 366 2004 = 357 2005 = 359 2006 = 349 ( ban in November ) 2007 = 329 ! A RECORD DECLINE!
there is a smoking ban in pubs in ireland and it really isnt that bad, there is usually beer gardens where you can smoke and they are nearly always much better fun than inside plus you also dont have to go inside to get served.
The principle is private property rights even if it were to go to a public vote a bunch of idiots who never ever go to bars or clubs would vote for them to be smoke free. It is a choice that club owners and patrons should make not any vote or politician should make. Consumers will choose if they want to spend money in a place that allows smoking or not. If smoking clubs lose business they will convert to non-smoking it really is that simple no-law needed.
Yes, I still have to wonder why this was not put to the public when it affects the vast majority of the Houston population. Afraid the smokers would win, Mr. Bill?

It is about private property rights, I wish anti-smokers would stop using the Constitution as toilet paper.
