@Traductus5972 Actually James was trying to sound like the lead songer of Diamond Head... I like Diamond Head, But I prefer the Kill Em All Version of all of theses songs simply because James' Vocals were MUCH better
The song was written by Metallica when Mustaine was part of the band. When he was kicked out and formed Megadeth, both bands changed the song a little and Metallica renamed it and Megadeth kept the original name.
Mustaine wrote this when he was about 16 then he went to MetallicA => Kicked! MetallicA kept the song but "modified" it a bit and Mustaine kept the original and put the cool intro into the beginning... Im a MetallicA fan for life but gotta admit that I like the Mechanix more and loved it even more if it had the slow part in the middle...
James is fucking WASTED. He says "all four on the floor" SIX times through the song. How ironic that all four members of Metallica probably spent the night on the floor passed out from so much booze :-)
@whyusucksobad Sorry man its James. The style is too similar. Dave mightve done a little bit of backing vocals on the demos but never actively sang in any major fashion. You have to keep in mind that James probably wasn't even shaving yet when he sang this and was a very late bloomer. Yeah its easy to mix up with Dave's naturally high voice that tends to shriek and snarl but make no mistake this is a young James Hetfield thats blasted out of his mind on alcohol
correction, Mustaine DID do vocals sometimes... but mostly back up... One of the main problems with the band at the time was that there were two distinct frontmen, (these were the days before Kirk) where Dave was the lead guitarist... by the way, Mustaine wrote this song in its entirety... he wrote most of Kill Em' All.
well stop shittin on these people ...he didn't wrote most of kill em all ...i just hate how dumb people like u keep exaggerate things ..mustaine wrote ..The mechanix..Jump in the fire (not entirety )...phantom lord
1: Dave never sang for metallica he has said that and james and lars have confirmed..
2: Dave wrote 4 songs and the album consists of 10 songs... 4/10 is not over half thats less mate. and 2 of the songs was just a solo so you can say he wrote 2 songs thats it... and 2 for RTL maybe no confirmation there being as they recorded the demo in 83 after dave left... except for when hell freezes over he wrote the intro into mid way
@choptop1218 well, they played "Mechanix" as a band as a whole. As metallica the Band. Not Dave Mustaines song that only he can play. I think it rightfully belongs to both of them.
@Tobarxp No Right yeah I'm not saying that at all. I'm just Saying Dave Wrote it While in Metallica (you're absolutly Right,) and they did play it as a band as can be found on the Metal up Your Ass Demo or on youtube.
I'm just sayin' he Took "The Mechanix" Over to Megadeth & Metallica Recreated it as "The Four Horsemen". But then there's this undocumented arguement about Dave telling them not to use his stuff but they did anyway kinda thing.

This isn't Metallica. It's obvious that it's Dave Mustaine singing, and he never sang for Metallica. I know Metallica played this song, but Dave never sang it for them. He didn't sing it until he created Megadeth.
Well if it is, it doesn't sound like him at all. And I've heard every Metallica song there is to know what his voice sounds like. It sounds a lot more like Mustaine. Also Metallica played The Mechanix a lot slower than this version, which sounds like a live version of Megadeth playing it.
Hetfield also used other vocals before that...so I don't think you heard enough, check out the Mechanix video in the related videos if you want the proof that it's James and not Dave

For all those saying it's Hetfield, at what point in his life did he sound exactly like Mustaine?

Hahaa Well Dave did talk in between songs while in Metallica.
But apparently you never listened to Kill'em All, and some of Ride The Lightening ..
Just saying James when he was younger had a Higher Pitched voice

I think the confusion comes cause' back in those days, Dave would do the between song rap, and James would sing

@whyusucksobad. You obviously have not heard any old metallica demos or bootlegs. It is clearly Hetfield that is singing.
