  • I'm guessing this was an outtake from around the time he and the Small Faces were breaking up... either way great version. Steve Marriott is missed. RIP.

  • mercury was never in the same league as marriot ,good voice an all but not a patch on steve ,give this another listen im sure youll come around

  • @MrMatthewhogg Sorry Mercury & Marriot are worlds apart both brilliant in there own right had the pleasure of seeing them both perform live, I can't believe anyone would try to compare them.

  • @MrMatthewhogg im sure i was responding to someone who claimed freddie was a better singer my friend ,never mind merry christmas x

  • One of THE best voices in rock, hugely underrated!

  • Great song! Same beat as "Go Now."

  • Always gives me goosebumps...Steve's daughter Mollie Marriott does a lovely version of this, I think it was live at a Small Faces covention...worth looking up on here xx

  • Hambuns Hope I dont have to say this very often - just put a donation to DEC for the African situation - but hope this money goes to giving Rupert Murdoch an assisted passage to Somalia where he and his CEO can experience directly the same shit his companies have generated elsewhere... and if you like SKY television, just think what this lowlife gets with 100% ownership........

  • Whoa...where has this song been all my life??

  • Love this vocal makes me proud to be a mod! R.I.P Steve!

  • Just making every little bit hurt..

  • i Fricken love this version cause Steve is perfect in it <3

  • Love Stevie's voice on this,full of soul.xxxx

  • I'm Proud to say that I owned this Album way back

  • The vocal sends shivers up my spine every time without fail i love and miss you Steve! xxxxxx

  • Brings a tear to my eye every time.R.I.P Steve and Ronnie.xxxx

  • I used to have a Spencer Davis version of this .....

  • awesome... to those on the bottom of the classic rock snobbery food chain... stop comparing artists and singers and the way they felt.. only they would understand their own feelings. each one of them whether stevie here, freddie, or plant are all amazing frontmen and singers.. so please.. shut up.. u cant argue this point

  • @hed2myshoos13 'bottom of the classic rock snobbery food chain' What does that mean?!?

  • @Khultan what do you think it means?? read the rest of the comment dude... people who do THAT lol

  • @hed2myshoos13 Aw-you're no help at all, Mr. Reading Is funDUMBMENTAL. What you are declaring is that within the top echelon of the snobbery group there exists a lower and/or inferior sub-snub group, which all in all, still makes your opening line absolutely nonsensical, perhaps, it would merely give pause to a schizo.

  • @Khultan i don't take kindly to people who tink dey bettuh den everyone else.. ya dig?......... i don't know why your trying to prove that your intelligence exceeds my own.. though maybe it does man.. but seriously speaking as a musician.. what the FUCK does it have to do with the music on this video?! where is the relevance? and i may not be the sharpest tool in the shed but the fact that you insult a mans intelligence over the internet shows your lack of humility and integrity as a human being

  • @hed2myshoos13 Whoa, hold up. It's not a personal attack at all. How can it be?!? I don't know you and you don't know me. I just responded on the comments made.

  • @Khultan dude you were literally trying to point out my shortcomings in the comment i made. don't bullshit me please. but if there really is a misunderstanding than fine... things do get lost in translation over the internet... though reading that comment.. sure sounded like an attack on something!

  • @hed2myshoos13 Maybe, my rebuke could have been more genteel.

  • the very best

  • the best of all

  • again and again I listen to this. can't get enough

  • I prefer the live BBC take from top gear in 1968 that this version. Along with If I was a Carpenter from BBC sessions and Tin Soldier are my fave Small Faces songs.

  • I cant stand the narration on my version to ogdens, its on most tracks Steve talking the weirdest shit totally ruins the album, first 3 tracks without this are great though.

  • Listening to all of these versions really makes me miss Brenda H's original..no one can top it...

  • ...well, I'll just put a little bit in then..

  • what a great voice

  • Comment removed

  • every little hurt counts.....................................sends shivers down my spine and puts a lump in the back of my throat everytime...... small faces should of been soooo much more ..... such amazing musical talent being that undervalued has got to be a crime ....♥

  • what an absolute classic haven't heard this in years, marriots voice is amazing- thanks!!

  • vespa202 is right -- it's 3:57 of Perfection! Thank YOU!

  • 3:57 of Perfection!!!

  • @vespa202

THANK YOU for sharing this one!!! I forgot about this one - it's fabulous!!!!

  • Great, really great singer...

  • Very emotional vocal from Steve R.I.P Steve and Ronnie.Love you guys.

  • Robert Plant & Rod Stewart were and still are Steve Marriott Fans!! Marriott is the Original!! Marriott Rules!!

  • There used to be some video out here -parts 1,2,3,4 of the faces..-could still be out here..

On the part that played this song, showed the face of Steve as a small child, and then his face morphed into an adult Steve- one of his last photos..

I was like Wow..its been like 18 years now..

really sad to lose this guy,..and his craft

Still thinkin of ya stevie RIP

  • It's still out here. Search Small Faces part 4 and you'll find it near the end. As sad as it is that he is no longer around, I'm grateful for all that he - and all of the Small Faces - have left us. There was something distinctly timeless and magical about that little band.

  • @padraiggillon Magic. Yes, there is no other way to describe this band. And they knew it - When Steve and Ronnie reunited in the 80's they call themselves the "Majik Mijits". RIP, lads. RIP.

  • What a loss to the music world when Steve Passed.

  • Yes, we lost one of the greats that night :'(

But Stevie remains a LEGEND for ever!

  • Thank you for posting this great tune! Bonus points to you for presenting it with my favorite album cover ever!

  • Cant stop listening to this vocal...great performance Steve and the lads!

  • That was righteous!!! Still got goosebumps!

  • Swoon...such memories, Steve's voice is just so moving. thanks for posting this!

  • Steve sounds like a mix of Robert Plant and Rod Stewart. I love his voice :)

  • Steve Marriott and The Small Faces are incredible ! What a talented bunch of musicians and so fabulously fun to watch perform ! No one comes close to Steve ! His music is purely an extension of his soul for the whole world to see and hear. How he is missed !!!!

  • Great vocal performance by Steve.

  • line up in the warehouse no problem at all ? lovely

  • Wow great vocal with feeling and soul,Steve was the best.R.I.P miss you mate.

  • No one sang with more feeling than Steve. His voice was his soul.

  • WOW HEAVEN

  • RIP for all eternity Steve, nobody could ever match your pipes, songwriting, anything you touched.

  • @ladycplum Couldn't agree more

  • Never mind just the UK, name me a better rock singer than Steve Marriott. Just try. It really isn't a subjective thing. I'm speaking quite objectively.

  • @MrsSuratt Freddy Mercury.

  • @vatmcgrath Steve was better. He had the blues in his soul.

  • @petey1892 No he wasn't. Blues in his soul dosent make his (brilliant) voice better than Freddy's. (or Paul Rodgers)

  • @DemiSonic If by Freddy you mean Mercury, no way he was better than Steve Marriott. And Queen is one of the most grossly overrated bands of all time.

  • @MrsSuratt No, sorry, that is subjective is it? Why bother viewing it like that?

  • @MrsSuratt It really is subjective you know. Why even bother asking the question, you're obviously just gonna ignore every suggestion.

  • @MrsSuratt Bon Jovi.

  • @Underground906 lol you're funny

  • @MrsSuratt There isn't one...

  • @MrsSuratt Eric Burden was pretty good...he had the same kind of soul voice as Steve, theyre both my favourites :)

  • @MrsSuratt czesław niemen is better.

  • @MrsSuratt

    Freddie Mercury

  • yeah o.k. out of u.k....still cant think of anyone with high range except valli.//pitney and del shannon...marriott's talent wider..showman/guitarist/songwriter/harpist/actor... agree kraz.?

  • I know this wasn't originally on Ogden's, but I came across a vinyl reprint (40 plus years later, still very cool cover art!) in a record store today and this is listed as a bonus track.

  • incredible song, incredible vocals small faces are in my opinion the best british band from the 60's, and it is a tragidy that steve marriot and ronnie lane are no longer with us.

  • The Small faces where the absolute top mod bands of the 1960s.

They have influenced so many top bands in the past and if you are a new band starting off you will not go wrong by listening too The Small Faces.

Steve Marriott in my opinion had the greatest soul voice to come out of the UK.

R.I.P. Steve Marriott and Ronnie (Plonk) Lane. You both left us with some great songs, never to be forgotten!

  • Amen.

  • I think that the fact they call the Small Faces "The greatest British band to never make it in America"

enables alot of vocalists to rip steve off in one way or another, -what can you do? -try and sound like steve marriott and have no-one notice?? Heh, heh....-Good luck.

  • Yes, you've hit the nail on the head. It's hard to accuse someone of ripping off Stevie Marriott if you've never heard of Steve Marriott!

  • nancyzeetoo

hmm It's not that simple, Steve was known in US. In the early 70's Humble Pie were very popular band. They didn't have difficulties to fill arenas...they were incredible live band.

I think problem is that Humble Pie shone bright but too short to be remembered by the wider audience.

However it's unfortunate for Steve that Small Faces aren't known in US because he penned with them so many great songs and provided some of his best vocals too.

    Shame...huge shame!

  • I know I'm just repeating what everyone else is saying, but damn, what a voice Steve Marriott had. And I wouldn't be suprised to learn that Otis Redding learned a bit himself from this loud little cockney boy. He was that good.

  • No Marriott learned from Redding. Redding was a true soul man who grew up with this music in the gospel tradition. Soul is secular side of gospel. All the greatest soul singers came up via the Black church. There was nothing Marriott could have taught Redding about soul music.

  • What a voice!!

  • shoebobs: ...I was drawing a parallel between Steve's soulful voice and his influences from Sam Cooke and Otis Redding, being Chris Robinson's influence in his singing! ...you can close ur eyes and hear it!!!

  • A voice for the ages.

  • Thanks a bunch hambuns!

  • What album is this from?Love it.

  • Gonna have to check one of the many compilations. It wasn't on a studio album

  • Originally on the album The Autumn Stone, and despite of what I said in the Intro, may be a bonus track on some reissues of Ogdens. Icing on the cake indeed!!!!

  • ...I believe Chris Robinson borrowed some white kick-ass soul from our man Stevie, I hear it, I feel it!

  • ...I believe Chris Robinson borrowed just a bit of his white soul from our man Stevie, I hear it, I feel it!

  • Brilliant voice , great cover .

  • "Classic " cheers Slumbers2 4 share

  • A great song from a great band..RIP Steve Mariott

  • Wow superb vocal with soul cant be beaten.

  • HEY IT DOES,NT GET BETTER THAN THIS awesome rip little stevie & ronnie marriot & winwood DUH come on awesome

  • hambuns FATASTIC post rip steve & ronnie 10**********

  • Great song, Mick Jones of the Clash did a version too - is on Clash on Broadway

  • thanx for the tip, just checked that - his version is excellent (there's a direct link if you click Spencer Davis Group's version).

He's got a great voice, especially on Style Council stuff, don't know why he has to growl and shout so much - doesn't work when he does that

  • Stevie Winwood has played on some Weller songs.A sweet one is called Pink on white walls.Which could easily refer to a cadillac! But is about the sun rising in all our bedrooms On a given morning.

Steve is super special.Christ,I feel a fool on here with my comments about Small Faces but it is because I love Steve and Ronnie so much.

  • cool, the only clip of that here on YT seems to be a tribute to someone's cat!

  • hadnt heard this before ...its fu**ing quality!

  • Your brother deserves a pint for his musical taste - in answer to your question, Ronnie was born in 1946 and Steve in 1947- Rock in peace mates

  • @sydskyds Marriot died in 1991

  • @sydskyds Marriot died in 1991 Lane died in 1997

  • Cant argue with that - this is a great altrnative, also enjoy the spencer davis version

  • The best!!!!

  • Steve... You're the guy!!!

  • I watched the video here "Small Faces pt.4" they were playing this song behind the documentary at the time they were talkin' about Steve Marriott.-They had a picture of Steve as a child, and it transfered into him in his last days B4 he died.. man..-made ya think of his loss to the music world, and where he might be now....Great Blues from the Autumn Stone album- thanx for putting out here.

  • Brilliant!! Brilliant!!

His voice was one of a kind, I miss him.

  • Steve Marriott at the height of his best vocals. Wonderfully sung.
