Jans career began with Zodiac Mindwarp? are you kidding. Jan was playing around the fleapits (aka-bars) of the UK for years through the eighties with his own band `Cyrka`. He didn`t have a trem for years, but he still had a gorgeous sustain whatever guitar he used.
In was on a page about Rob Zombie... then I thought of Zodiac Midwarp... and "hey it's been years sonce I've checked anything about Jan Cyrka"... checked this... and wow, he's better than ever.
Great playing and a tone to die for - just a Boss Super Overdrive and a Laney - nah - there is a ton of compression here as well to get that sustain and delay/reverb that you can hear at the end - a stunning piece of music from a huge talent.
What an awesome guitarist, will have this track played at my funeral!!
I received the cd " Beyond The Common Ground" as a birthday pressie, made turning 50 acceptable!! An absolutely awesome cd for any fan of rock guitar music and by far Jan's best work.
Joe Satriani rates him very highly, (his own words).
If you ever decide to tour the UK, please come to Cardiff !!!!!
Shredders take note: - blasting away at a million miles an hour is entertaining for about 5 minutes, this kind of playing is far more memorable. If most of us could play half as well as this guy we would be happy, texture, phrasing, melody, tone - its all here and it's fantastic - Thanks Jan
@slugpumper1 100 percent true, alot of us even though we can play quick and in time the more notes you add usually means the more you lose in translation. It funny to watch him because most of the laymen out there think because hes not sweeping or alternate picking 100 miles an hour means hes not as good as others but I put this guy way up on my list!!!
@ExtremeBogom You seem to be saying that guys who don't shred are a bit thick (short attention span, zero patience) - I was not trying to belittle anyone, unlike yourself.
I really hate this man...that´s the finest way to play and make music...so smooth, so elegant, so brilliant, you know...He seems playin´a guitar solo, but he doesn´t does, cause that´s a complet art work, where ALL the notes and details are there for so inspired melody...really hate that man!! (he is so brilliant..,.)
So Subtle. So Sublime. Everything about this piece is just perfect. I keep coming back and never tire of it's relaxing therapy on my soul. Pure manna from heaven and music for the soul. SPIRITED!
@Mathidal Thanks for the info mate, I will buy Spirit because this is on it and see what the rest of the album is like. Fun and peace to you and yours.

I don't mean to be over the top in my opinion. But this to me is the MOST EMOTIVE AND BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF MUSIC I HAVE EVER HEARD. It has beauty and feel beyond words Jan. I first heard this track a year ago and still feel the same when I hear it.

Great tone but he's a bit boring and robotic..he does make some space between his licks which is awesome, but he should exploit this space for a little less predictable playing in my opinion. Not starting every phrase on the first beat is a good place to start from.
@007MrMagoo I agree. But you can do less and still be interesting. In my opinion, this is not so interesting. It's not Mr Cyrka's fault only, the backing track is pretty boring as well if you ask me.

Obviously before Guthrie Govan came on the scene but ye! I too love this and think Jan is the man. I like the fact that he is just playing in the mood and not trying to impress as well we know he can play anything. This just has it all for me, I just love it. Peace!
Interesting guitar by the way, how many frets does it have? The neck pickup did sound better than I thought it would... it's so close to the bridge.. Maybe he didn't even use the neck puckup? hmm.. I dunno
