  • It's clear he's on another plane to her in terms of skill, I have to say though, that slow mo shot of her being lifted into a really half-assed split leap looks hilarious.

  • She acts scared to death! Like moving her body she would break. Poor tango great male dancer.

  • @msemotional: I'm sorry, I cannot translate gibberish! You can't even tell a coracleman from a coraclewoman!

    coracleWOMAN

  • This is a fantastic performance of tango plus a wonderfully movie! Pablo Veron is really inimitable dancer by tango! Bravo by Sally Potter!!! I adore this movie!!! Thank a lot for this video! ♥♥♥

  • Music: "La Yumba" is a tango created by Osvaldo Pugliese in 1946.

  • if this is doing the tango, i am doomed

  • no me gustan como lo bailan.pero el tango es genial!!

  • She is not near Pablo's dancing skills. This is not the best dancing scene in the picture. The dancing is better in the famous Libertango-scene - and it's also more electric.

However, I really like the sequence that starts at 1:30 in this clip.

  • @gruvstudion Of course she's not! There are maybe a couple dozen followers in the world who are at Pablo's level. It is amazing how much he is able to get out of Sally though - really a very good performance I'd say.

  • It's rather painful to watch someone like Sally Potter dance with Pablo Veron. She might be an ok film director, (I loved the movie) but sorry, she looks terrible with Pablo!

  • @xxartisticxx Well, wasn't that one of the conflicts of the film? That he did not consider her dancing good enough?

  • @emergencyexit16 Yes, but think of this: Pablo acted in the movie, as a dancer who *wanted* to act. He was, imo, believable. I know the other part of the movie was that Sally wanted to be a dancer, but she never comes close to the same skill level as Pablo is, even as an actor, much less a dancer.

I still adore the movie, but that one scene when Sally first sees Pablo dancing with the other woman on stage? Now THAT'S a dance partner!

  • @xxartisticxx Well, I guess you're right. Why would he asks her to perform with him with such little experience? Probably because he REALLY was using her to start his acting career. Wow, I never really looked at it like that. Come to think of it, he was never really interested in her. I guess they both used each other. It's obvious that they didn't love each other.

  • I don't remember them playing "la yumba" during this scene.... but oh well

  • anybody know where i can watch the full movie??? (online free)

  • what is 'faggy looking?' And how old is 'old & horny?' Sexist on both counts! And the lack of connection is part of the plot.

    coraclewoman

  • @coracleman wat ever ...!!!you don`t care/....grr...b;ehh

  • greeting you first...I recommend you watch "a evaristo carriego" put like this hire,to get an idea of of pure genuine Argentines dancers ,without influence from any filmmaker as in this film. if you like the video I will explaint more about your cuestion...let me now! I will show you more videos . ahhh anyways Tango es about passion !! love ,!! feelings !

  • Apparently you never saw the tango scenes in the movie, True Lies.

  • THAT is poetry in motion!

  • @bilicvit Indeea, very nice said.

  • C'est EXTRA ! ....

Il faut savoir le danser pour y communier !

  • the cinematography is really good. the choreography is good. as for the dancing, they could have been more connected. but over all i liked it. i wanna see this movie now

  • Comment removed

  • her hips seem to dislike him. <- untrained eye.

  • While this dances attitude is designed for the movie. Dancers are not always connected for so many reasons. Fear, hate, just irritated... Tango is about feelings, so this dance is it bad? Depends on the point of view. While not "connected" is shows feelings coming through to the trained eye. I actually liked it.

  • apparently it goes against all the rules of what good tango dancing should be . I still love it love - more than technic it is a powerful image of this particular story, between this particular two people, at that particular time - is that not all that matters?

  • For everyone complaining about this scene, that it's horrible, it's true. It is horrible. Pablo is disconnected with her. In fact they fight about this right after the dance. This dance is not "good" on purpose. Their dancing "gets better" later in the movie.

  • lunar, I really liked this movie..what was so pretentious about it you thought? that is was in black in white, in french, etc?

  • -_-' this dance danced by her is emotionless... the steps are really good but she doesn't have the passion of the tango, and don't have the correct posture dancing it....

He is an amazing dancer really... all his moves flowed so well...

  • missbmoon, that's the point of this scene...when it's over, pablo is infuriated with her because she doesn't do such a good job.

  • Amazing!!!!

  • MMMMMM!!!!!!!! a esa mina le falta chispa para el tango.......besos desde argentina!!!!

  • la mina horrible, pobre pablo....

  • esa escena me dio mucha pena, Pablo fue muy egoísta

  • The music sounds a bit death-y, though.

  • The passion is more subdued. It's hidden behind the melody. You can see how strenuous the dance itself is, just by pace alone.

Did I seriously just say "passion"? I'll go cry over my lost masculinity.

  • Where is the passion in the scene!

What is a tango without passion!!!

  • That is how this dance was supposed to be. The scene following this was the two of them arguing because the performance had gone badly.

  • they are to far apart and no emotion!

  • To zesto Tango...:)

  • Hello tangoist!!

  • This is my favorite video and film!!!! 5****** and i send it to all my friends!!!THANK YOU

  • I think they are not very comfortable with each other. They are very stiff...

  • I think she was purposely being stiff at first, and by the end she finally lets go and dances...I'm still not a great fan of Sally Potter because though she can get a film done she is not a great artist, though The Tango Lesson was a great achievement thanks to the great artists (music and dance) that the film showcased.

  • where can i see this without the file sharing inconvenience?

  • it seems to repeat regularly on sky movies indie, and i think it's been played on film 4 << brittish/irish stations...

  • La Yumla is that the name of the song? Just want to make sure. I really like it!

  • no,La Yumba ;>

  • ok thanks

    =)

  • Bravo! Bravo!

    Dance make a good show!

    Lady elegant and beautiful!

    I like this movie!

  • esplendido

  • buongiorno amore, hai visto

    che ballo meraviglioso?

    se vorrai un giorno

    prenderemo lezioni

    e balleremo tango..

    avrei potuto impararlo anni fa,

    ma ho preferito aspettarti..

  • przepiękne, ach życie całe ćwiczyć by choć raz poczuć jak to jest, tańczyć właśnie tak

  • She might not be that bad if her posture was better. Though I have not seen the movie and am not sure if she is suppose to play down or not in that performance. Some good foot work but I agree she is stiff. However, again might suppose to be like that for the purpose of her roll in the movie.

  • she directed, starred and wrote the script. went to argentina not knowing how to dance. did pretty good, i might add

  • is the movie made in black and white?

  • yes it is and it is in french so it has subtitles in english but i would deffinatly recomend this film it is amazing

  • what movie did you see??? the movie is in ENGLISH! as Sally Porter is english!! try a copy that isnt bootleg!!!! But yeah the moive is amazing!!!

  • Most of it in black and white, with dream scenes in color! Go see this movie!!

  • ay caramba!

VER: GAVITO with Geraldine Rojas and and the whole Gavito collection,Gisela Galeassi with Gaspar Godoy, Zotto with Plebs,Puchu, etc, etc, etc.

  • This dance was supposed to be climactic, and Sally Potter appeared so stiff and subdued, and pretty much ruined it. Not the best performance on the film, and I can see why after this he was mad at her (in the story)...

  • yes I agree!!! She is terrible!!! Anyone not caught up movie and look at her dancing she is terrible. God soooo many wonderful followers that she could not hold their dance shoes!!!! Get real you people and really look at good followers!!

  • yes but this film is a true story about her she went to france herself with a filming crew to learn the tango all of this is true its more like a documentary she has never danced before in her life so considering that i think she has done amazingly well

  • Pablo Veron IS Argentine Tango!

  • I saw Sally Potter and Pablo Veron perform the tango live when "The Tango Lesson" was featured in The London Film Festival back in 1997 - it was incredible! Sally is incredible - a true inspiration to me!

  • Sally Potter?? She is awful dancing Tango Argentino. Look at her legs! There is no good female tango dancer in this film.

    Una gran pena!!

  • I agree, ... the position of her legs is a bit like I would imagine Margaret Thatcher to dance ... VERY stiff ... except for the very end, not really that good at all on her part!

  • mmm...the woman needs practice and a better posture...the balancing of the bodies at the end is terrific, though.

  • this is what passion an dancin all about with stucture dancing like tango..its more sport then just asking someone dance one must be in perfect form flowing with ur partner spirit almost one join in formation of music an lessons of love , scott my love u want to dance? love u 4ever nicky

  • Este cancion no es "La Yumla". Es "La Yumba"

The song is not La Yumla. It's called La Yumba.

  • The Tango Lesson is an ASTOUNDING movie!! So passionate and enlightening about the nature of the heart and the ego. Pablo Veron became famous because of this movie. Because of the exposure of this film, he got calls from all over the world to come and teach and to perform. though he is known for his ego, he is utterly one of the most brilliant thing i have ever seen!! Rent the MOVIE if you haven't seen it yet!!

    Sarah .:.

  • I have this movie for long time and tresure it. Mr. Veron , of course unbelievable bur what about woman>> She is THE WOMAN. Wrote script, produced, played lead and got Veron. And financed everything. Not mention knowlidge of all those languages and lerned to do TANGO.

  • la mina camina horrible...

  • So this is what the tango looks like! =D That's so COOL!! This is my favourite of all the dances. 'Cause it's teh dance chase of seduction!! |3

  • Beautiful!!
