Workers would hopefully work in self-owned co-ops & trade in a mercantilistic way.
Anybody who presides over too much land may be forced to give it away as it will become unprofitable for them.

When U buy land U don't actually own it. The government owns it & U have simply paid a 'deposit' for 'rental'. The 'rent' is extracted in the form of property & other taxes. The governments print the money & can buy it back N E time just by changing a law or 2 forcing U 2 sell, or simply take it via the military.

Basically, the govt has drugs, with a value almost equal to oil, run by street gangs, on a self employed basis, just so that it doesn't have to try to sell this stuff in shops (which would get broken into and robbed every day, at gunpoint).
They tell us its illegal, so we cant compete with them, and produce our own.
But it has kept coming, even tho we now own afghanistan, so i can only preume its anothe rone for the "truthers" to investigate.

There are app. 36,794,240,000 acres of land on planet earth. Given that Land (like Oxygen) was given freely by nature & wasn't really anybody's to buy or sell, that gives us (all 7 billion of us) 5.25 acres each.
Okay, some of that land isn't really habitable. Let's say only 30-40% of it is really habitable, that's still 1.5 to 2 acres each!

Because actually sharing the land out wouldn't necessarily be practical in advanced agrarian & industrialised societies, we would have to come up with other solutions; like allowing anbody with less than 2 acres of land to live rent free & recieve subsidies to buy food that they can't grow because they don't have the land.
Whilst those presiding over more than 2 acres of Land have to pay rents & share their profits of their use of that Land with those who have less than 2 acres.

Anybody who presides over too much land may be forced to give it away as it will become unprofitable for them.
This is the least exploitative scenario imaginable.
If by 'south' you are referring to South & Latin America, I think much of it could actually entertain an actual land reform program. Much of the Land could be shared out amongst the poor.
