  • Does it ever annoy you guys when the fuses keep blowing especially when you have to keep moving things up and down with the poles? I know just fixing computers when they fail repeatedly annoys me.

  • @NekoMasterMax It is part of the job, annoying when it rains but fuses are there for a reason.

  • wow it just shows what power there is

  • YOUR SUCH A TEASE

  • LOL, I put the phone down just before this hit like I was afraid I'd get shocked :-D

  • Hope he was wearing ear plugs....ouch.

  • Interesting. Does your megger only go up to 5 kV, or do you ever test at higher voltage?

I'm only used to meggering stuff at LV, where the test voltage is higher than line. I'd have expected the same sort of thing at HV. Guess I was wrong!

  • @ChumpusRex 5 kV is the industry standard. i used an AVO BM 25 Megger

With HV a polarisation index is done, and on feeders a VLF test applied.

DC is not good for XLPE cables.

  • Why is the rickroll video related to this?

  • Nice video of that in action.

  • haha! i remember the video of those stupid iranians stealing wire from the powerpoles , he went POP like that too

  • Woooo!! It went....*POP*

    -BoomBoxDeluxe.

  • haha! reminds me of the squirrel that popped like this fuse when it grounded itself , the boom was so loud ,it was burnt hairless and no guts were inside of it ,basically it was vaporized

  • now thats a proper fuse POP,unlike those whimpy 12v car fuses

  • @daewooparts i don't think you would want one of those fuses in your car when your driving along and a fault crops up.

  • @NobbysPcHelp Car is 12 Volts, this is at 11000 Volts.

If that same fuse was used at 12 Volts it would just go pop like a 12V fuse.

  • POOF!

  • cool! how did the cable in the transformer go short circuit? only thing I can think of would be insulation break down over time, since there is no mechanical movement in the transformer.

  • @MrGerbilBrain It was underneath the transformer slab. I post an other video with the details of that location over the next few days..

  • The fuse in the video is an expulsion fuse. It is designed to "explode" to extinguish the arc forming across the element when the fuse blows. The charge inside the fuse is typically boric acid. The TV show "How its Made" did a segment on these fuses.

  • It sounded like a fireworks tube when it launches one up in the air, except when that fuse went off, that stuff went everywhere except "up".

  • nice.. cable fault.. now to find which cable is bad, and fix it :).

  • Cool i wounder what 33kV lines in a dead short would look like. I suppose over 300amps and 33kV. You'll be hair free for about 10kms.

  • @Kurtreidable 33kV lines are not fused.

They rely on the protection settings of the OCB or VCB in the substations.

  • @RODALCO2007 So let's say i have 3 objects i wasn't to through up. 1 very thin copper wire. 2 Christmas tinsel. 3 a crow bar. 4 wood branch. What is your opinion on what would happen? (btw i'm not actualy going to do it) I'm just intersested in high voltage now.

  • @Kurtreidable Electrocution, better to stay well clear of it.

11kV has the power of a 747 at take off.

  • @Kurtreidable

Chances are the electricity would arc from the line>Object>You.

  • @Kurtreidable you can find out what happens , there is videos of assholes throwing stuff like thin cables and junk across high voltage wires, just don't be holding the other end when doing it :P

  • @daewooparts

Doing it with -very- long fishing line and wire can be -relatively- safe (as long as the fishing line is new, dry and clean), but -never- advisable. It still is extremely dangerous and illegal.

  • was expecting an arc.

  • @HDXFH

There was an arc flash inside the fuse. They often contain solid Boric acid inside that generates a large volume of gas to quench the arc.

  • every few summers there is a fuse like that which blows down the road from my house when there is too much load from air cons and that.

Always makes a rather nice bang :D

  • nice one :-)

  • DAYYYYYYUM!
