  • How come no one saw it? And reacted to it?

  • anyone else see that shooting star at 2:00?

    oh ya, cool fire bro

  • @MxDar1511

It's the reflection of the cars headlights bro.. you actually see 2 of them. but interestingly enough I did look back.

  • @Redfyre08 oh ya, i see it now! theres a rail or something in the top left corner that the lights hit.

  • You'd think someone would react to this but nope, just keep on keeping on.

  • Shits on fire, yo.

  • It's too symmetrical further into it... But wicked effect. :)

  • Where is this, Gastown? Kinda cool but I prefer building mapping by the Macula, even if it is larger scale.

  • It will be cool if somebody really did set it on fire and the fire department never responds.

  • Great idea but not enough convincing... You could put some smoke there. ;)

  • what a waste of a fire brigade.

  • Very, very cool.

  • At 1:56 is a man stealing a sign =|

  • @Icrat .... I think so.

  • So now this has been invented, would anyone care if somethings on fire?

'oh leave it, it will just be some new art'

  • i wonder how many people who drive past not knowing its art and call the fire brigade? :/

  • Tumblr knows what's up.

  • And not a single fuck was given that day.

  • i love how no one cares at first

  • i love how no one cares.

  • @2.02, what was that spark? o3o

  • @TaraSnickerPants i wondered that too and backed the video up. its the reflection of headlights as people drive by.

  • more realistic if there was more smoke effects

  • beautiful

  • it looks pretty cool actually, but pretty cruell to the people who were on their cars just passing by and then BALLS A FUCKING BUILDING ON FIRE ABOVE ME ! MOVE WOMAN MOVE !!!

  • true irony: montreal-based artist isabelle hayeur's apartment complex catches on fire. authorities are not notified because locals believed she was "just being artistic."

  • Anyone who's worried about the art in this video really needs to... cool off.

  • tumblr has found you.

  • @karenboox33 Breaking the first rule.....?

  • @TheAllyIs tumblr, not /b/.

  • @karenboox33 NEVER SPEAK OF TUMBLR

  • It almost looks like three giant fire places sitting over the road lol. It's cool :]

  • This is what the outside world looks like? I don't like it. I'm going back to tumblr

  • 1:30

Man: Yeah i just walked out of my burn apartment building... and what.

  • shooting stars!

  • it's very impressive, but I don't really see the point, it doesn't seem to be representing anything and all it seems to have done is wasted firemen's time

  • What if it actually was on fire? No one would know haha

  • People who disliked...lost their house to a fire.

Our hearts go out to you.

  • People who disliked...lost their house to a fire.

  • It's better if you added a fog machine. And it will be totally immersive.

  • no one notice that the building is on fire.BEFORE.what if the fire is true.im sure it will turns to ash

  • LOL! This is SO random!

Yes, I think this project and they way it was done is really neat, but think about it. What are the chances of sitting there and thinking about what art project to do and then a light bulb goes off saying "I know! I'll make fake a building on fire!" haha

But seriously now, that was cool

  • @GreenRiceInc I think you're missing the point here. You may or may not be an artist yourself, but there is a reason it's random. It could stand for something. It could be metaphorical, or at least to the artist HERSELF, it makes sense.

  • @thewickedrobot Who says some randomness can't make sense sometimes? Like you said, "there is a reason it's random." Art can be interpreted in different ways, too. I was just taking a more comedic look at it. Of course it could be seen deeper than a building that randomly went on fire. I'm sorry if I was offending anyone. It was just a joke. And I am an artist, a young and ametuer one, but an artist nonetheless, thank you very much. Don't judge me based on one comment where I was being goofy.

  • @GreenRiceInc No, I'm not judging you at all. I didn't know I was coming off that way, but no, whatever you interpret it as is fine. It's all good.

  • Why was there a fire engine there at the end?

  • @CrazyPinkCherries to make it more realistic?

  • What in the world. So what if the building was in serious fire?

  • Burning buildings are, like, sooo 2010, guys.

  • for more info google isabelle hayeur.

  • LOL I love how the one guy just walked out. Like hell yeah just walking out of a burning building yall

  • Fire is loud, fire has smoke, and you can smell fire. I don't think it would be that difficult to make the connection that the fire is not in fact real.

  • I don't think this would be like a building who cried wolf. If the building does end up getting caught in fire, it would obviously look more realistic. Glass and smoke would be flying everywhere if it were the case.

  • I actually found this pretty cool, it kind of confused me as to why everyone was just walking past..

  • Pretty cool, except I'd hope you'd warn the Emergency Services FIRST. Though, of course, if there were an actual fire in this building, you'd have issues either way...

  • WHAT IF everyone is taking it waaaaay to seriously?

  • What if someone from out of town saw this and called 911?

  • well that's shit.

  • that actually looks pretty fake.

  • the fire one each floor looks the same though.

same patter and everything.. two "V"s

    v \/ v v V v

  • uhh.. what if someone calls 911 thinking its a real fire but it isnt when firemen come

  • this is amazing wow

  • that is beautiful idk y there r so many hate comments

  • @SuperHyperAnonChan UFO, duh. lmao

  • @ Mobious1055 No you idiot. It's a computer simulation. Try reading the description next time..

  • tumblr sent me here

  • idk if i like it...

  • 10, 911: cool amount of views for a fire video

  • I love it! I know a lot of people don't seem to like it because it wasted the fire departments time or something, but, I'm pretty sure their time has been wasted for a lot worse things then art, 'cause that is what this is. Were none of you brought up with the expression, 'If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all' ? This is an artist expressing themselves in a new creative way.The world is a sad enough place as is, why do people find the need to poke holes in everything?

  • @SuperHyperAnonChan what are you talking about?

  • im sure the fire department knew it was there and didnt respond to the calls, but they probably got sick of all the calls they kept getting

  • people walking by *Poker Face*

  • nobody said anything on the street?... wow

  • haha - ever heard of the boy that cried wolf...

  • What if the building actually gets on fire? No one will believe it. LOL

  • @sofitati08 Now, that's probably true! Also, there is a big sign in front of the building advertising the installation, so I doubt any locals would be concerned.

  • It doesn't even look that real in my opinion.

  • @mobious1055 shut the fuck up cunt

  • OMG

  • i love how everyone walks by without noticing it

like..."oh hey buildings on fire...cool story, bro"

  • well, it's just art, no need to get all hyped up about people being in real fires. calm yo ass down mobious1055.

  • this entire video reminds me of grand theft auto.

  • anyone else see some meteorites in the sky?

  • what a cunt. yes, the firefighters are there to respond to your self absorbed shit "art."

  • this is pretty awesome

  • Chill out, y'all. I'm sure because it was such a large art piece they notified the proper authorities and got permits and publicized it so people would know it wasn't real. It wasn't created to "prank" people, which explains the total lack of panic on the parts of passing civilians.

  • @mickylaren doesn't account for the total lack of awe, or spectators.

  • @indiierockchic it does if they'd been doing it for weeks so everyone had seen it before and were no longer interested in it.

  • @mickylaren

and of course it doesn't smell like smoke so therefore get a clue yall

  • @mickylaren Naw, its Canada. they're used to this shit.

  • @mickylaren if they did then whyd a firetruck come?

  • @ItzBigidy They were probably asked to come.

  • wow and people just walking by like nothing is wrong. what is up with the world....

  • @soo313 If this was real the windows would have shattered/melted and there'd be smoke. that might be why people weren't stopping... the probably knew it was fake?

  • @michikoane no. people are just naturally stupid. this is why rape happens. because no one is PAYING ATTENTION TO THE SHIT HAPPENING AROUND THEM.

  • @mychokehold Naw, I'm pretty sure rape happens because some people are so desperate for sex and control over another human being that they force themselves on others. People shouldn't have to worry about whether or not they're going to get raped if they don't pay attention for two seconds, and I don't believe it's that people were stupid. They might have been wrapped up in whatever they were doing not to notice, but I don't think that makes them stupid, right?

  • @soo313 no smoke, no smells, no warm... ofc :P

  • so stupid

  • @PinchofPsychedelic tumblr sent me here too

  • @jssiee Same :)

  • This is brilliant

  • @MickeyAllen1 I bet you thought the same thing when you saw the Dadaist Toilet.

  • @mychokehold I haven't lol

  • Sure would suck if this building actually caught fire halfway through this.

  • It's obviously fake. If it was real, the flames would be licking at the windows, etc.. Still, ingenious.

  • 1:30 Hahaha, I love the guy that just casually walks out of the supposed burning building.

  • That being said, this is very cool. :)

  • Great embodiment of the layers within "playing with fire", not only are you literally doing this. You are also crossing moral borders by staging such a disastrous event.

  • Ugh, annoying bitches bitching! However, this is dope! <3 it!

  • Why all the comments about wasting firefighters time and freaking people out? you can't just attempt something like this without informing the public and the proper authorities. Projects like this require permits and signs as to not cause panic. The local fire departments were probably contacted ahead of time, and maybe signs posted up everywhere alerting the public that some sort of fire-based performance art was happening in the area. The firetruck at the end of the video was probably staged.

  • Comment removed

  • Stop being so critical, I doubt half of you could have done anything as great.

I happen to think it's beautiful in an odd way.

I just hope fire departments were forewarned.

    I love it.

    Great job.

  • only an idiot would think it's a real fire after staring at it for about 30 seconds

  • Haterrs gon hateee . but whatever . i like it . but it could create a false alarm to the fire department . but all these people hatin on this video are juss upset that they cant create something like this . good work(: .

  • It looks fake, theres no smoke, and the building's not falling to pieces.

HOPEFULLY that's why people weren't stopping and calling 911, hopefully they're not just ignorant of the "fire"

  • Well it's pretty cool to look at but it's a hazard.

  • I've seen an actual fire in an apartment from outside, and this looks 100% like video screens.

Sometimes it's better to turn down commissions, rather than to waste firefighters time and resources. Not to mention this is a traffic hazard, and potential hysteria generator.

Well, it would be, if it looked or seemed at all real. I however, have never seen a fire inside of a building without tons of smoke, immense pressure and smashing windows.

  • I think this is great; I wish lived across the street from it.

  • @Mobious1055 and @Briannaknt and @ScytheNoire ; The artist was commission to complete the exhibit. It's a statement, say the least. If the work was commissioned this means the proper authority were contacted about the project. I dont live in Canada, but its true, that our reality have become like fireplaces.

  • I hope she got fined for this stupidity.

  • Beatiful, thank you for sharing.

  • I don't get the point of it. Something tells me this is going to be the building that cried wolf, for the day when it really IS on fire.

  • @briannaknt pussy

  • @briannaknt it's pretty obvious that it's fake.

yeah, it looks realistic, but if it was actually on fire, the building would be in ashes LOL.

  • @briannaknt Yea....But NO SMOKE ?????

  • @briannaknt That's why it's called art, m'lady; doesn't have to have a point.

But yeah, totally agree on the building that cried wolf part.

  • What a tease. Someone should just burn that whole area down. and turn it into a parking lot.

  • It's really well made, but I wonder how many useless 911 emergency calls this "art display" generated...

Ahhh so much for your welfare er... mean council for the arts tax dollars at work...

  • why does that remind me of 'legal eagles'

  • Cool.

One could say that Isabelle has seen too many fire places and too little real fires. We could invite her to enrich her art by helping us to run a few tests in the fire research laboratory (University of Edinburgh). After this, she can add the artistic and pretty dramatic element "smoke" to her work. Currently, it is missing all together.

  • Just another example why Canada needs to cut the arts in the next federal budget.

  • @Ottawa4everXX what? because someone is working at creating something? just because we're not all cookie cutters doesnt mean that we shouldnt get paid. that's bullshit.

  • finely they got there

  • This is really cool to see, but it was totally irresponsible not to notify the fire department first.

  • @Psychlist1972

Now that's a very good idea.

  • Another example of someone doing something stupid and labeling it "art."

  • @fuckfuckfuck1 it is fuck you art

  • @mistulac it's as artistic when my friend pulled the fire alarm in high school for fun. he should've called it art. maybe he could've avoided charges and probably even got a government grant.

  • @fuckfuckfuck1 it isnt the same. that is kind of fun.

  • What an asinine thing to do, upset people, waste resources. What if the fire crew had an actual fire to respond to? Sorry your family died as we out on a false alarm.

  • @mobious1055 I'm pretty sure this was cleared with local fire department before hand. Clam down =_=

  • @mobious1055

    You are so shallow-brained.

  • @mobious1055 they were probably informed about it

  • @mobious1055

What if, what if, what if...

  • @AllieWojtaszek Fire trucks still carry water around? I thought they linked up to fire hydrants.

  • @Josephers Uh yeah? I guess you might not know that since your Dad obviously wasn't a fireman... but you could have probably googled it if you didn't know.

  • @AllieWojtaszek Googled it! "Water tenders are used when there is not a working fire hydrant within reach of other fire equipment, or a water tender gives a possibility to supply the fire engine(s) with a very rapid connection."

Also: "[Water tenders] do not necessarily have enough pumping capacity to power large hose lines (like a fire engine), though it utilizes a smaller pump to draft from bodies of water."

  • @Josephers So you think by proving that fire trucks have water tanks with a limited capacity that you somehow proved that fire trucks don't carry water any more? I left you a link on your profile to "How Fire Trucks Work" which I guess you didn't get a chance to see yet. The fire truck at the end of this video is a rescue truck with rescue equipment and doesn't have a tank (or a hook up to water).

  • @AllieWojtaszek I'm not trying to prove anything.

If you can't understand why I didn't think fire trucks still carried water around, then I'm done with you.

  • @Josephers Well, if you REALLY meant you just didn't understand that some fire trucks carry water then I am prepared to admit I misunderstood the tone of your comments, which I took to be challenging and offensive. I did not mean any harm. If I have misunderstood you and your intentions, then I apologize.

  • @AllieWojtaszek I re-read my comments, and I should've tried to make it sound a bit more perky, especially in an environment like YouTube.

As for your original comment, I wouldn't have known that this was a commissioned art project - thanks for that info!

  • @mobious1055 Fire with Fire was commissioned by The Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad. I'm pretty sure the rescue truck you see at the end was there as a part of it. It's not a truck with water on it, if you were wondering.

  • @mobious1055 there's a good chance the organizers already warned the city (council/emergency crew) ahead of time (that or after one false alarm, the city became aware of the project) and knew that any emergency calls they'd get for that address should be disregarded. And you also need permits for large projects in most cities anyway.

  • @mobious1055 *were

  • @mobious1055 there is more then one firetruck in vancouver

  • @mobious1055 I'm sure people realize it's fake when no smoke comes from the building also.

  • @mobious1055

I'm sure they alerted nearby fire stations to assure them it was a stunt. I'm convinced they have as much common sense as you do, if not more.

  • @mobious1055 Oh come on. It looks real, but it doesn't look THAT real. I'm sure that if you were standing under it, you would be able to tell it's a projection. And like another person said, they more than likely told local fire departments. Lighten up.

  • wolf!
