  • Superb shooting with open sights!

I own a No.5MkI myself and just love the Enfields design...

In my opinion it is a far better rifle than the K98k. I have to commit that as a German. ;-)

  • This rifle is still usedin modern conflicts (most controvercialy asthe prefered taliban sniper)

  • Damn! that's excellent shooting at 300 with N0.1 sights. I prefer the N0.4 rear peep as I am uncomfortable with leaf rears. I noticed in your other videos you have a N0.4, what was the longest you shot using the iron sights?

  • good shot dude !

  • Best bolt action rifle of WWII hands down....I would rather go into combat with one of these over some of the rifles in service now!

  • These rifles are seriously one of the best combat rifles ever made! I love seeing videos like this, a 93 year old rifle that might have seen combat in the trenches of World War one can still come out and preform like that. I'm curious what company build your rifle?

  • thats some good shootin right there

  • Awesome shooting with open sights.

  • damn good with open sights

  • Excellent video and superb shooting!!

My 1916 No1 Mk III is my most treasured rifle - like yours it's absolutely original and shoots better than I can!

  • the tommies would of loved you in ww2

  • Thats some of the best shooting ive seen with an open sight

  • good shooting with open sights

  • I have an original no1 mk 3 from 1917. I can buy the ammo for it from a private shop for 25 cents a round.

  • Due to the increasing scarcity of .303 ammo, many owners of original Enfield SMLES had them rebored and re-chambered for .308 Win. Sellier & Bellot is perhaps the only ammunition manufacturer still offering the .303 British as a regular chambering. But the rifle is still in use in many parts of the world though. In Khyber Pass, Pakistan, Enfields are still being built, and the ammo is plentiful.

  • wolf also still carries 303. just letting you know

  • Remington make brass, and Highland make brass and loaded ammo, this is available in Oz,don't know your local.

  • I've only seen them in catalogs, i bought mine 2 years ago for $100 from a guy my dad knew so i cant really tell ya. It's really disgusting at the War and Peace show in the UK, they disasemble so many fine firearms.

  • Where you shooting from? Looks similar to the place where the Quigley takes place in Montana.

  • Well the mag is detachable, just not intended to be used in that manner to reload. (just to clean...)

  • Classic battle rifle, I own a Lithgow made in 1943. I read the no 3s were prefered over the no 4s by the Commandos. I own and love both rifles.

  • at 0:53 i saw the bullet hit and ricochet off the target

  • I don't want to be too picky, but with your rifle having no windage adjustment on the rear sight and no magazine cutoff that I can see, is it in fact not a No.1 MkIII* rather than MkIII?

Nice spot of shooting, that, and a very nice rifle. (BTW I met Ian Skennerton, who seems to be a bit of a Lee-Enfield expert - IIRC he states the record is 38 shots in one minute)

  • think you could do the mad minute?

  • I'd love to. :-)

  • great :). will you post a video?

  • Sure, within the next few weeks.. :-) Whats the record, do you happen to know?

  • i couldnt find a specific mention of the record anywhere online or the library, except for a mention of a one ian Skennerton saying that it is 38 shots in a minute. i have a friend in the uk however, and he said that a man his grandfather served with in WWII could do 43 ini a minute. but right now we'll have to call 38 official. take care mag, SheVa

by the way, i posted this a couple of days ago, i dont know why but it must not have gone through. jsm666^ has confirmed though, which is good. =]

  • @mag30th 37 hits on a 12in plate at 300 yards in 1 minute

  • no rifle is better than a lee-enfield and i own 2 mosins in that nice refurb mint condition one had a bore full of cosmoline, and i perfer my lee-enfield

  • How?

  • @mag30th LOL, because it was of Call of f**king Duty, so that's all they've seen of it.

  • in what sense do you mean better?

  • Having owned pristine original NoisyMaggots of several types. 91/30. 38carbine, 44carbine, Polish mod44 and a Hungarian 91/30 sniper I can say they are good rifles but are in no way better than LeeEnfields with the exception of possibly making a better spear once you run out of ammo.

  • @optikon1 in my opinion the Mosin Nagant is inferior in every possible way.

  • @optikon1 On what basis do you make that judgment? The Lee-Enfield is a better rifle than pretty much any bolt-action rifle of the early 20th century. The Mosin-Nagant matches it on accuracy and reliability, but the faster operating bolt-action and the 10 round magazine give the Enfield a big edge. German soldiers would sometimes report being engaged by machine guns, even though it was just British soldiers rapidly firing Lee-Enfields.

  • @optikon1 I would argue that the Enfield is superior to the Mosin Nagant in all respects except for one. The mosin nagant wins in the one aspect that mattered most to the Soviet Union... the capability to make millions upon millions, and at a much lesser cost. That's what the soviet union needed. The enfield wouldn't have been effective for the soviets, because they would have never been able to afford the numbers they needed. Each military rifle plays it's own role.

  • can you imagine a sniper with that rifle? 10 germans deads thats for sure

  • moisen nagant is better

  • Better for what?

  • At least spell it right, asshole

  • Awesome! 5 stars

  • Great to see this vid, enjoyed it!

Back in the early 80's I bought a used, but good condition No4 MkI* made by Longbranch Arsenal in Canada for $75 off of a friend for hunting. I loved the gun, out to 100 yards I could hit whatever I wanted to hit. I sold it before I moved to Japan, I should have just let my Dad keep it, I even had a blade bayonet for it, VERY cool!

    Cheers!

  • And damn, you keep the bold nice smooth!!

No wonder the German were scared:

The British used a tactic, the quick fire. In that way the German thought everyone had a sub machine gun:P

  • Damn, I really need to visit you with all your rifles xD

  • It would be very hard to confuse the 2A/2A1 Enfields for a No1MKIII.

The 2A series rifles used a square magazine instead of a sloped one, and you could always look for the rifle designation below the bolt. 2A's also have aluminum butt plates versus the brass ones for the .303 variants.

  • is the .303 a powerful round ???? and are the british lee enfields really accurate ??

  • is the .303 powerful? i'm sure there's some dead nazis with exploded heads that would say yes :) and yes the enfield is extremely accurate just like most blot action WW1 WW2 battle rifles. Just remember the rifle is a tool if you're not a good shot the rifles accuracy becomes worthless.

  • Is the .303 powerful? It is on par with 8mm Mauser,U.S. 30-06, Japanese 7.7mm and Russian 7.62X54R. For some reason it is sometimes said to be inferior to these other rounds. Forget killing Germans, this round has taken Elephants, Lion, Cape Buffalo and probably any African big game you can think of.

  • expensive bullets

  • not really a ,303 round can come cheap, just depends wher u buy it

  • They're usually at least $1 each.

  • Er what? I get mine for less than 40 cents each...

  • Yeah, but that stuff is pricier in Canada.

  • ahh that probably explains why...

  • haha yeah, its surprisingly not hard to find though. Wal Mart sells it

  • lol!

  • And even in canada the price could be cut and half and better higher quality ammo could be achieved by rolling your own.

  • Always!

  • /cry if i bought ammo from walmart for a box of 20 that would run me bout $40

  • would you recommend a lee enfield for modern combat sharpshooting?

  • Im using the .303 cartridge loaded with a .308 diameter bullet instead of a .311, I am not using the .308 cartridge in this rifle.

  • What kind of shape is the bore of this rifle like? I have a mid20s No. 1 Mk. III and it seems to shoot patterns rather than groups. The barrel is nice and grey as expected from a military rifle that saw action. Im sure youve been asked this before, but why did you choose the .308 rounds rather than the .311 it originally used? I noticed you also used .308 in your Mosins instead of .311. Was this just a decision from trial and error?

    Great Shooting!

  • Thanks! It was all 100% trial and error. These rounds (200 grain .308 projectiles) do not work well at all in my other Enfields, only the No.1 Mk III.

Mosins are also trial and error. I could never find anything other than heavy .308 match bullets that flew well through the 91.30s. I have three 91.30s, and .308 diameter 200s work the best so far, although tomorrow Im going to try the 208 grain match at 1,000 yards. If they float well, Ill post the clip.

  • part 2 of 2

So far, although Ive had great luck out to 850, beyond that gets very very difficult. 7:00 AM in the desert, I hope it is still, no wind, I totally stress over these things. If it floats well Ill bounce you a message and let you know... :-)

  • how much would you pay for 100% original enfield in the states?

in the uk it would big money especially one that shoots as well as yours

  • Around $125 - $160 USD

  • Mags, How did you arrive at the decision to use a .208 bullet instead of a .303. Aren't you worried about wearing the barrel faster with an oversized bullet? Enlighten me please!

BTW another awesome video!!!!! 5 stars!!

  • Thanks!

Actually a .308 is smaller than the Brit 303. The true diameter of the Brit 303 is .311 of an inch, they just call it a 303 due to the original 303 in the 1800's.

  • nice are u just useing surplus ammo?

  • Best advice for choosing bullet diameter is to SLUG YOUR BORE and mic the resulting slug for accuracy, or stay with .311 to be on the safe side.

Sounds like yours has an incredibly tight bore!

  • Very true.

  • Looking to pick one of these up at the local gun show this weekend, can't wait. As usual awesome shooting.

  • cool video,i like shooting the old guns

  • thicky must be quaking in his boots

  • Thanks! Of my entire colection this is probably my favorite rifle to shoot.

  • beautiful rifles hey Mag?

    dad's got a 1916 .303 excellent condition.

i have been told you can .311" sized "slugs" in a well used .303 even in 7.62's. seems a bit big for the .303 but should be fine in a nagant

once again great accuracy, looks like all your "trial and error" pays off with your hand loads. Well done +++

  • nice
