Stang fans enjoy while you can, the 8 speed is coming, that will compensate for the difference in weight. I was talking to the local dealer and come fall the Challenger will have a Supercharger option. Should be interesting in match ups after that. am Mopar to the core but I would take the Stang over the Camaro any day on just looks alone.

@hilde198881 Why the hell does anyone need car that goes 200 MPH? The highest speed limit I have seen in the U.S. is 75 and in Canada 110 KPH or 68 MPH. Gas is north of $4 per gal and over $5 in Canada. If you can afford the gas to feed the beast that is the least of your problems. Here in the Great White North there is winter, ice and snow so you only drive it in the summer. That means 2 cars, not very smart is it.

I've had a 99 Z28 long ago, indeed it was great and fast even for some of today's fast cars, however the Ford Mustang managed to compete with the Camaro for decades with smaller engines, the only Mustangs I hated so much were the SN95 (1994-1998) but the ones before (1989-1993) were fast enough to run high 13s to 14s flat, the (1999-2004) models ran the same, the Bullit mid 13s, the Mach1 very low 13s!! all were NA!

I've owned a couple Machs (search Mach1spd, my old username or my current channel) and it took 4.10s, ORX, and a tune to touch 12.9. My stock SS LS1 ran 12.97 at 108. The Bullitts are nice, but really don't run any faster than the same year 2Vs. Def not mid 13s. The old Fox body 5.0s did good to see low 14s, thats being generous. S197 3Vs, you're looking at mid-high 13s on average. IMO, they got it right with the Machs..

But then again, a 4.6 losing half a second to a 6.0 isn't exactly losing IMO, BTW the Bullitt can run mid 13s, 5.0Mustangs magazine have done it in 13.59, they also tested the 2000 Cobra R, it did 12.8, The problem with S197s is weight, I've clocked 13.55 with an auto 2007 with (4.10,pulley) with a poor 2.2 60' time, stock skinny tires and about 4000lbs race weight

@steppnstone629 Thanks!! a couple guys working there were looking at my engine as I've poped my hood open with a puzzled look on their faces, they thought my car was stock, it only had a pulley and 4.10 gears, I mean they've seen only manual stock Mustangs clock mid 13s but not autos, that night was very humid and about 90 degrees!!
@bttawfiq Weather conditions have everything to do with it. I'd bet in some 50 degree, 100' DA, you'd run low 13s all day. My SS (full exhaust/tune) ran a good time at 12.4 so far, but that was at -500 feet, lol. In air like you ran in, its most likely a 12.6-12.7, or slower. You on Mustangforums by any chance? The Challenger would be a closer match but it isn't a pony car either, it is closer to a grand tour. I look at it this way, I am not going to race on the track or street so don't care who wins. I want a car that is quick, comfortable and has a real trunk for trips. The Challenger and Charger do that way better the any Stang or Camaro.

The numbers are close enough that the driver can make the difference, but with equal drivers the 6.4 is a tad faster than the 5.0. All you gotta do is search the test results and compare the traps/ETs. As far as the SS goes, it doesn't even come close to the new 6.4 SRT-8, or 5.0.

As far as this race goes, the SRT did well considering its opponent. If I'm not mistaken, that 5.0 is tuned, making it a 115+ trapping car. For that big ass 4-door tank to hang with it is damn impressive, imo.

The dealership I work at has had 2 2011 GT 5.0's traded in already.....one already had to be sent to the Ford dealership for warranty work because the transmission was grenading already with 6k miles on it..just sayins all. I think I read a report that there were 22 mustangs in the entire US(out of 26,000) with the #8 cylinder problem and they all had tunes. I don't know what to say about the transmission except that mines doing great!
@menschmaschine02 Same trans in both V6 and V8 from what I read...I had a 2011 V6 manual, zero problems for 10K miles. I traded up to a 2011 GT though, but its automatic and I hear those aren't Chinese made...To each their own about the cars they prefer, but even as much as I like the Challenger I won't be driving a Dodge until they work on their pricing...

@burk3385 you guys have to have a 3600 pound car to stay with or barely ourun a 4200 pound car. The point of view can go either way. Do I wish the challenger and charger was lighter, of course yes, but as cruisers they win hands down. As a former owner of a mustang, and current owner of a challenger, I will take my car over a generic mustang anyday of the week don't care what they put in it, you can always make a car faster, it takes 44K to make a mustang look good (a la BOSS).

Let's put it this way...the coyote is better than all and there is no argument. 5.0 vs 6.4 and outperforms. Charger runs 12.8 in the quarter according to motortrend while the mustang is 12.7. Giving up almost 60 horses and 1.4L and still winning. PLUS the charger starts at over 40k. Mustang at about 30k. It's a no brainer. The mustang has less power than the camaro and charger and still outperforms.
I think it was bad because you had the shift on Auto , its better on manual and you will have a good chance if you race with him from speed 60-70 mile , plus you have the Camera man and that is extra weight. next time put the camera man on the end of the race distance , dont do more than 1/4 mile and I hope you are using 95 octane when u wana race , and good luck man

@burk3385 Well sometimes in AutoStick we try and put our RPMs higher so we have an advantage from a roll. Im guessing he put it too high and it shifted faster than he wanted? I dunno a shot in the dark from this guy.
@burk3385 Simple, if you knew anything, you would know that the SRT8 has a transmission you can shift yourself, with the gear selector or wheel mounted paddle shifters. So if you shift too late or too early, you have a bad shift.

Stang fans enjoy while you can, the 8 speed is coming, that will compensate for the difference in weight. I was talking to the local dealer and come fall the Challenger will have a Supercharger option. Should be interesting in match ups after that. am Mopar to the core but I would take the Stang over the Camaro any day on just looks alone.

@hilde198881 Why the hell does anyone need car that goes 200 MPH? The highest speed limit I have seen in the U.S. is 75 and in Canada 110 KPH or 68 MPH. Gas is north of $4 per gal and over $5 in Canada. If you can afford the gas to feed the beast that is the least of your problems. Here in the Great White North there is winter, ice and snow so you only drive it in the summer. That means 2 cars, not very smart is it.

I've owned a couple Machs (search Mach1spd, my old username or my current channel) and it took 4.10s, ORX, and a tune to touch 12.9. My stock SS LS1 ran 12.97 at 108. The Bullitts are nice, but really don't run any faster than the same year 2Vs. Def not mid 13s. The old Fox body 5.0s did good to see low 14s, thats being generous. S197 3Vs, you're looking at mid-high 13s on average. IMO, they got it right with the Machs..

@bttawfiq Weather conditions have everything to do with it. I'd bet in some 50 degree, 100' DA, you'd run low 13s all day. My SS (full exhaust/tune) ran a good time at 12.4 so far, but that was at -500 feet, lol. In air like you ran in, its most likely a 12.6-12.7, or slower. You on Mustangforums by any chance? The Challenger would be a closer match but it isn't a pony car either, it is closer to a grand tour. I look at it this way, I am not going to race on the track or street so don't care who wins. I want a car that is quick, comfortable and has a real trunk for trips. The Challenger and Charger do that way better the any Stang or Camaro.

The numbers are close enough that the driver can make the difference, but with equal drivers the 6.4 is a tad faster than the 5.0. All you gotta do is search the test results and compare the traps/ETs. As far as the SS goes, it doesn't even come close to the new 6.4 SRT-8, or 5.0.

Anyway, explain to me how a stock 5.0 is faster if it runs a 12.8-12.9 at 111 MPH (stock) and the 2012 SRT-8 Charger runs 12.5-12.6 at 112-113 MPH (stock). He won fair and square. SRT-8s lose all the time, so do 5.0S, LS1s, Mini Vans, Dumptrucks, Lambos, etc. My point is still valid, with equal drivers, the 2012 SRT-8 is a faster car than the 5.0, just accept it. @lowkeyneon hell yea. Good purchase. I've had multiple challengers/camaros pull up beside me, look and drive off. They know not to fuck around even with the larger engines. Simple exhaust and tune and we are in the low 12's. I'm sick of the srt talk. Dodge builds slower cars, accept it and deal. Ppl need to stop crying about the weight difference and face the facts. You can't and won't ever run with a 5.0 stock for stock.

I'm just not a dodge fan or a chevy fan. But to each their own. I just get tired of ppl talking shit about how the charger or challenger is better. @burk3385 That is because the Dodge's arent dealing with blown Chinese Transmissions and blown engines. The dealership I work at has had 2 2011 GT 5.0's traded in already.....one already had to be sent to the Ford dealership for warranty work because the transmission was grenading already with 6k miles on it..just sayins all. I am not hating on you, or acting tough. Search it and you will see it is a widespread problem

I think I read a report that there were 22 mustangs in the entire US(out of 26,000) with the #8 cylinder problem and they all had tunes. I don't know what to say about the transmission except that mines doing great!

@menschmaschine02 Same trans in both V6 and V8 from what I read...I had a 2011 V6 manual, zero problems for 10K miles. I traded up to a 2011 GT though, but its automatic and I hear those aren't Chinese made...To each their own about the cars they prefer, but even as much as I like the Challenger I won't be driving a Dodge until they work on their pricing...

@GotsaSRT8 it is comfortable for everyday cruising just not as comfortable as the charger. u dont see because u're too busy lookin for reasons to make the dodge a better all around car, yes it cheaper, meaning more afordable, better on gas, a greater icon, lighter, faster, been around since the start of the muscle car era,...of which it started. the srt8 charger/challenger are great cars, and the mustang isn't the greatest, but face it, it is just an all around better buy. unless u got a family.

Do I wish the challenger and charger was lighter, of course yes, but as cruisers they win hands down. As a former owner of a mustang, and current owner of a challenger, I will take my car over a generic mustang anyday of the week don't care what they put in it, you can always make a car faster, it takes 44K to make a mustang look good (a la BOSS).

Let's put it this way...the coyote is better than all and there is no argument. 5.0 vs 6.4 and outperforms. Charger runs 12.8 in the quarter according to motortrend while the mustang is 12.7. Giving up almost 60 horses and 1.4L and still winning. PLUS the charger starts at over 40k. Mustang at about 30k. It's a no brainer. The mustang has less power than the camaro and charger and still outperforms.

I think it was bad because you had the shift on Auto , its better on manual and you will have a good chance if you race with him from speed 60-70 mile , plus you have the Camera man and that is extra weight. next time put the camera man on the end of the race distance , dont do more than 1/4 mile and I hope you are using 95 octane when u wana race , and good luck man

@burk3385 Simple, if you knew anything, you would know that the SRT8 has a transmission you can shift yourself, with the gear selector or wheel mounted paddle shifters. So if you shift too late or too early, you have a bad shift.
