  • I too saw this w/my parents at the drive-in no less. My old man was howling whereas I don't remember my mom's comments. Nevertheless, in my top five since. Couple of curious scenes however. 1. In the beginning Stanley explaining building blowing up. 2. When Stanley does his night time offing of the manikin, he pauses high up with a building behind him w/the red numbers "666" blazing. Don't recall any skyscrapers in NY with that designation. (Be ready to still movie when that happens)

  • This is in my top 5 favorite movie scenes of all time. THANK YOU so much for posting it. WORD.

  • I saw this as a child when it first came out...I loved this scene...love Lemon...

  • The opening question is satirical. Of course it can be taken literally, but the real humor is in the irony with which this entire piece oozes. Satire: 'The use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.' I'm a happily married woman and my husband and I agree that what has saved our marriage is BOTH of us learning to smile and say, "Yes dear!" often with love.

  • Misogynistic or just honest? Marriage 2.0 isn't good for men, not at all. Google search Marriage 2.0.

  • I saw "How to Murder Your Wife" in a nice, old fashioned, large theater on a rainy night in 1965. I was eleven years old. As I exited the theater, I thought, "Stanley Ford's life is the life for me! Marriage? Nahhhhhh!!!" The idea never became any more palatable to me during subsequent years than it was that evening. The "button defense" should be enacted by every state legislature, I think.

  • Since I "pushed the button" I own my own home, I've traveled all over the world a couple of times AND a couple of times on a motorcycle, I have a nice BMW, money in the bank and, most of all? Piece of mind. The commenter below is right. A man needs a good woman in his life, the operative word being good. I don't mean subserviant, either. If I ever find one, I'll be sure to let you know. In the mean time I couldn't be happier. So long, suckers!

  • Was I the only waiting for 'Push the Button, Max!!' ?? hehe :D

  • @PassionetTerreur Valid question... but we (men or overgrown boys, take your pick) need a good woman in our lives, how ever we may say otherwise. The movie was satire about men and the irony being that though he objected to the wife in his life and vehemently defended himself justifying his 'murder', he in truth missed her dearly (there is the beauty). The love his movie, no matter how much i might dislike the 'wife' she is my world and it is empty without her.

  • @dheeraj12 Yes, but it doesn't have to be the same woman every night.

  • i am due to married soon and the most important thing is finding the right girl and never break, if you have to then never get married.

  • @dheeraj12 Thank you very much for these beautiful comments. It's wonderfully reassuring to hear that guys feel that way. Congratulations and best wishes for the future and a divinely happy marriage! :)

  • @PassionetTerreur We don't realise that marriage is such a miserable existence until it's too late.

  • @PassionetTerreur and I'm pretty sure that most women aren't made miserable by the knowledge that their husbands are miserable. At best they don't care, at worst they take a perverse delight in it.

  • Drake59 pushes the button.

  • This scene makes me happy I will stay single forever

  • This is one of my favourite scenes from one of my favourite movies!

  • This is one of my favorite movies ... EVER.

  • "Let's further assume that if you were to push that button, your wife Edna, the girl you've been to 11 wonderful and glorious years will suddenly and magically disappear".

  • Eddie Mayehoff is great in this scene. I remember watching this when it first came out with my parents. All the men were busting a gut laughing so hard and the women were like church mice. Push the button!!

  • "Being married is the normal way to live" LOL

  • Take her out, put her in the tank if necessary.

  • JL looks frighteningly like my dad. Awesome film though, thanks for the post, manferot!!

  • One of the best films ever!

  • please post the whole film.

  • pc crap did not set in until 1970 when AAP (quota hires and all that goes with it) became the law for federal contractors, trust me, im an expert on PC history.

  • This is a terrific scene in a wonderful film that, unfortunately, found itself out of sync with the waves of political correctness that hit the country starting in the mid-60s. Thanks for posting it!
