  • @yammaha334 you said they were armor and do you know the types of legionair (vbtw were is the 9th based (i may join)

  • @GreenGhost494 well there are several types of legionair for example a Preatorian the lowest rank is gaurdsman and you work your way up to tribune and in a legion the highest rank is prefect where you have your own cohort. oh and the 9th legion is based in impington cambridge uk. anyone who wants to join go onto grepolis join athens and send a message to Zebra finch.

  • Thanks, I'm doing a project on the Roman Empire, so thanks! It helped!

  • "The shield is designed to protect, while sword is designed to attack" ... thanks for clarifying :)

  • well go to mistupid.com/mythology/ and you will see what i mean

  • @Powercreated0606 but you must learn to go to school, study and learn as well ....

  • this is the armour: gladius, scrutum, pilum (plural: pila), the body armour.

the arttillery: scorpian, scorpian ballistae, onegers, heavy onegers, fire scorpian, ballistae.

types of soldier: legionaire, auxilia, equities, archers, pretorian guard.

don't be a fool go to school

  • @yammaha334 actually, the gladius and pilum were not armour, but weapons. It was scutum, not scrutum, scorpion, not scorpian, onager, not oneger, and the equites, at this time, were the wealthy financial citizens, one rank below senators.

    Go back to school?

  • @argurios25 actully i said they were weapons. and I am the leader of the 9th legion in england, so don't question me!

  • @yammaha334 where did you say they were weapons? might want to re-read your post...

  • @Powercreated0606 please study some history books and don't listen to your tribal legends.

  • @Powercreated0606 pure and total ignorance.

  • @gippobastard He is confusing the italic tribes with italians.

  • @LFSPacheco you are confusing terms: not "italians", but "italic tribes".

  • @0neofthem Not at all: you are confusing the roman people (latins, sabins) with roman citizenship, and it's not true at all that everyone had it. They were just conquered populations under the roman yoke.

  • @nior000 Romans are the ancient ones.

  • @Patrickinho88 No, they try to be. It's different.

  • @Powercreated0606 Italians fucked the turks in their ass in the battle of Lepanto (7 ottobre 1571) destroying them forever so shut up your stupid mouth. Istanbul belongs to mankind, and will be forever the "second Rome".

  • @AdolfHitlerGaming Not your ancestors; Romania does take it's name from Rome, but it was just a colony. Romans are only the center italian sabins and latins.

  • @sanctainquisitio I know that but still, romans are our ancestors because they mixed in with the Dacic people, thus creating a colony. So, Romania's ancestors are the romans and the daces. And don't tell me they aren't, the romans must've done sex with a dace at least once LOL.

  • @AdolfHitlerGaming there's a quite difference between having an occasional ancestor that mated with women of a conquered nation and belonging to the ethic group of the original tribe and having the status of citizens; this is what we are talking about. Of course you could personally be italian-blooded, but it would be about you and not about the entire nation. Anyway, you can be proud that your country was named because of the glory of Rome, which source is cnter Italy and no other place. :-)

  • we carthaginians fought them heroicly until they came to destroy carthage and spill sult on our ground so it never raise again.. they were ruthless and know how to hold hatred

  • @MiamiDolphinsClyde10 Are you saying nothing the Roman did is original to include the aquaducts?

  • @MiamiDolphinsClyde10 Romans and greeks learned from jews. Oh, God. Can you please say something more stupid because i love laughing?

  • @sanctainquisitio shady terrone u learned everything from the phoenicians(the basques) shut the fuck up inferior roman latino

  • @MiamiDolphinsClyde10 absolute racist idiot and son of a bitch; us inferiors dominated the world, while you afro-phoenican (that are not basques, ignorant idiot) are starving with flies on your nose.... why do poor analphabets like you try to discuss about history instead of wanking to porn?

  • @MiamiDolphinsClyde10 Totally ignorant, confused, illitterate, stereotyped ghetto under-specimen: what other words shall be expected by someone like you? Go on and dream about your jewish-african-phoenician-basque Star Trek alien race but never tell a REAL basque he's a jew or else cause he will stab you.

  • @sanctainquisitio moromn when i say hebrew i mean real hebrews holy people not the damn frauds who call themselves jews today those are edomites/khazars

  • @MiamiDolphinsClyde10 Still bullshit from an ignorant idiot: romans beated the shit out of your "holy" (zionazists) people and destroyed their stupid temple forever. Please go watch some Miami Doplhins game, drinking your beer and stop thinking about ancient history. Plus, don't be boasting any basque pride because you are not: the basques know well that jews were (and still are) a clueless desert tribe.

  • @sanctainquisitio romans and "jews" killed Jesus thats why romans are hated u inferior roman latino...the basques are of a holy bloodline the descendants of king david and Jesus...u are nothin but a bunch of shady mongrels u have jewish(edomites/khazars) blood thats why u are so shady and evil

  • @MiamiDolphinsClyde10 beer is german, giuseppe is jewish and federico is german: do you understand now how ignorant you are, you lousy afro-jew-phoenician (not basque - forget it, basques are not human failures like you) faggot? :-)

  • @MiamiDolphinsClyde10 I think you're a fool who can not even tell your ass from your mouth, in the words that you wrote I noticed a lot of envy! perhaps because you have an unhappy life? or maybe you love to be an Italian?

  • @MiamiDolphinsClyde10 sorry but what are you talking about? The Romans are not hated in the world! Indeed, if anything, will be admired in some way! at least you do not hate them? The Romans built both in the Europe of those times, the Romans were so democratic that when they let a land conquered the chief of that land was one of that place, because the Romans never colonized a country! about the death of Jesus, I do not know how they blame the Romans?!

  • @MiamiDolphinsClyde10 I think you have some very serious trouble boy! It may be due to the fact that the area where you live there too much loneliness? or perhaps because you are very envious of the fact that the ancient Romans were born among the most beautiful languagesin the world? I do not know that the Basques represent something important in this world! many people do not even know where it is?! In any case, you are less white of Moroccans

  • @MiamiDolphinsClyde10 certain that you are a real source of nonsense

  • @MiamiDolphinsClyde10 Who are the Basques? which temple you have that demonstrates your existence in antiquity? You're basing your story on the other! you're doing your culture, the civilization of people who have nothing with you in common ..... are you okay?

  • Unearthing ancient conspiracy theories...Ceasar is a ALien SHapeshifter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • THE CREATOR OF ROMANS , IS THE CRONUS. THE FIRST NAME OF ITALY WAS CRONIA

  • @unfukkkmee SATVRNIA TELLVS

  • @millennium85 UR ICON HAS, THE SYMBOL OF HERMES OF TRISMEGISTUS

  • @unfukkkmee actully it was Terra (greek form: Gaia) her son was Saturn (greek form: Kronos) Who was the fatherf of Jupiter.............. and so on, and during the Trojan war the son of Venus went to the river Tiber and founded Rome. Remlus and Romlus were adopted by Lupa, the she wolf. you know what? just look this story up on Google cause i don't want to sit here and tell you the whole f****** story.

  • THE CRONUS IS THE FATHER OF ZEUS. THE CRONUS AND THE ZEUS ARE GREEK OLYMPIANS. THE TROY CIVIL WAR BECAME THE 3000 YEARS AGO.

GAIA IS GREEK WORD. GAIA = MEANING EARTH.

@yammaha334 FOOL ASS ASIAN. THE JUPITER IS FAKE NAME.

  • @Powercreated0606 Say whuut??

  • @Powercreated0606 Okay you've just shown the world how ignorant you are. Goodluck.

  • @Powercreated0606 You're referring to Christians not Roman Legionaries.

  • in gaul(france)ceasar and 10,ooo romans defeated the celts who out numbered the romans 10 t0 1.all you expert on romans i guess you dont realize the romans must have won a couple of battles here an there. and their engineering was second to none.

  • alexanders army is a phalanx of spears (sarisa) rome only copied alexanders Hoplites. romes phalanx was some like hoplites (shields and Gladius)

  • In an open field, nobody can stand the onslaught of the well disciplined Roman soldiers. The only way to defeat them, or to forge a draw is to fight them in close quarters and thick vegetations and forests where their fighting unity will be reduced.

  • these guys copied ceasars legion from fallout new vegas.

  • @screeem trolololo

  • VIVAT GLORIA ROMANORVM..

  • @Powercreated0606 Wow. Did you really said ALL OF THE ROMANS? The defenders only totalled about 7,000 men, 2,000 of whom were foreigners and there were about 80,000 ottomans. with cannons. the siege lasted for more than a MONTH!

if a roman army numbering about 40 000 would lay siege on a city that city would not even last for a week.

also the walls of constantinople were not built to withstand cannon fire.

  • Romani in saltu Teutoburgiensi non devicti sunt, sed Germanos devicerunt. Qua de victoria certior fieri volet, ad hunc situm interretialem accedito

  • @Powercreated0606 wow! Go read some history bonner.

  • ... I certainly answered you all. I do not expect you to know history well. History is nothing else than deliberate false explanations of real events to serve some kind of propaganda. That is why ask you to remain to FACTS and NUMBERS. And these show us that Rome was a tremendous power in its time NOT for its military prowess (which statistically is proven TRAGICALLY PATHETIC) but for its magnificent DIPLOMACY that could keep on mobilizing the aristocracies of the world in its service.

  • @ColombianxXxNB Romans never had to meet many enemies togather. Compare that with the Eastern Romans who had to face in parallel MASSIVE armies like the Arabs and the Bulgarians (who easily gathered armies like 150,000 soldiers by then armed in near-absolute Eastern Roman fashion). Wanna compare the huge and powerfull armies of Middle Ages like Arabs and Bulgarians with the tribal weaklings of Gaul and Britain?

Or the 650,000 Roman troops in 100 A.D. with the 80,000 E.Roman troops in 800A.D.?

  • @ColombianxXxNB The rest Romans would meet was either the Hellenistic kingdoms of Egypt and Syria that could not gather more than 20,000 mercenaries each or tribal armies of reduced fighting skills (Gauls and Britons - remember how nearly 300,000 Gauls were chopped relatively easily by the extremely small Greek armies in their invasion of Greece?). Not to mention these were anyway politically divided and half aristocracies invited actually the Romans rather than fought them.

  • @tacotony24 You have to put everything into perspective ... Romans were a fantastic diplomatic machine. That is how they built their Empire and that is why we have to admire them. I do admire them. But as a military machine they were CRAP. Desperately CRAP. There is an explanation but you have to start thinking deeply what is really politics of Empire to understand.

Ask yourself, why would Romans ever care to be tactically good? To give too much importance to their (mercenary) troops perhaps?

  • @TheusZeusDeus "Romans as military machine they were CRAP"

    LOL,go learn some history.

  • StellandBlood A well-versed military machine does the job in minimal time, using minimal ressoures, employing minimal numbers of men.

Does this ressembles the Roman army? Are you serious? Start thinking.

  • @TheusZeusDeus Your sentence is a pile of rubbish,a good military machine,is the one that can emerge victorious in the greater variety of circumstances, that seems Rome.

"Using minimal resources employing minimal numbers"Roman Imperial army had 300 000 to 400 000 soldiers, while it could have fielded millions,it was definitely a army where quality was prioritized over quantity.

  • @TheusZeusDeus

It was a heavy and slow army, yet faster, more organized, more maneuverable and more versatile and more invulnerable to missiles, than your phalanxes, don´t come to me with Alex the Great.

  • @StellandBlood actually alex the great prolly couldve beaten the roman legions pretty easy alexander the great was well known for knowing his enemy he studied them their tactics training how they faught. the roman legions werent as clumsy as the phalanx but the roman legions werent that flexible you take out the cavalry which roman cavalry wasnt that good cuz they concentrated more on the legionaire then they did cavalry wipe the cavalry out attack the flanks the romans will lose every time

  • @StellandBlood once a roman legion no longer had the room to maneuver they panicked and dicipline would break down and they would be slaughtered and its proven to goths did it huns did carthage did it parthia did it all these ancient cultures did it against roman legions and were successfull yea carthage lost the war but their tactics early on attack the flanks and then cut off the retreat worked well so roman legions had their weakness they needed a great general to lead them

  • alexander the great knew his army his troops he was friends with all them hes companion cavalry he trained with them since he was a child alexander the great had an eye for spotting weak points being able to maneuver and make weak points then attack them he had a quick eye, knew when to fight and when not to he fought on his terms never the enemies romans did not alot of times they faught on the enemies terms which in the end got them conquared

  • @StellandBlood alexander the great wouldve defeated rome very easily i think alexander the great had an eye for spotting weak points and he made them if there was none and attacked them. he knew his troops and had trained with his companion cavalry since he was a child alexander the great knew the weaknesses of the phalanx and would always fight on his terms if the battle wasnt on his terms he wouldnt fight he knew when to fight and when not to rome did not which ultimately got them conquared

  • @yeah after 800 yrs. how long did alexanders gang last.

  • @jojo51886 Alexander is indeed the greatest general of all time. but I dont think he can defeat rome. The roman army have artillery that ar very effective against phalanx. Legionaries are more maneuverable against the macedonian phalanx. Besides Rome is not foolish enough to Fight a phalanx in an open field. They would do the strategy that they did to Hannibal. Force alexander to lay siege on roman settlements then raise a separate army to capture macedonia. 100% pure opinion.

  • @MarkSkrams sound like you think alexander is not the great, if he knew about roman legion he wouldnt stupid to fall in their trap, he would do something to beat it with his macedonian phalanx

  • @Odysseus1ful That's why rome will resort in other tactics to beat him after all alexander is only one man. Hannibal was also considered one of the greatest only to fall to roman legions. but ofcourse anything i say to you would not have any effect for you consider alexander to be perfect. so i rest my case.

  • @MarkSkrams i know what you mean but still doesn't matter which troop are the best if you don't know how to control them then you lost.

  • @Odysseus1ful yes yes you are right. we could discuss this for a long time and get no conclusive answer for there are tons of things to consider when comparing two of the greatest armies the world has ever seen.

But if alexander was to command a roman army then the whole world will be on its knees.

  • @MarkSkrams not to argue with u again, but thank for the advice anyway

  • @Odysseus1ful First, Alexander wasn't that great, Phillip was. Alexander wanted his father killed so he could have both the crown and glory solely for himself. Second, the phalanx formation cannot survive on anything but flat terrain which means that in Italy, the phalanx loses 10/10 times. If Alexander went West instead of East, he would've found the phalanx shattered by both the Italian hills and Roman Legions. We'd be saying Alexander the foolhearty IF he went West.

  • @Praetorian107 Not true Alexander was far greater than Phillip, and he would have probally been ok in Italy, he fought on hilltop terrain there, but even thoguh Roman infantry could ahve been superior to Alexander's phalanx his cav would shattered the roman cav thus his favourite hammer and anvil. Phillip's assassination could have also happened because of Alex's mother or Darius, you can't tell. Youre right about certain compsitions of warfare but Generals make war happen.

  • @EmperorofEurasia If Alexander did lived longer and fight the romans it wouldn't for him I not saying he will fail in this idea but he will have a lot of boby bags to do it.

  • @historyfathead he would be sucessfull thanks for his flexible mind but yes there would be a lot of blood both roman and macedonian. But like I said Romans had great infantry but cav wasnt to be greatly expected.

  • @EmperorofEurasia i agree with you, the thing is nobody cant proved that alexander involved with the assassination plus alex would know about every terrain because he had fight many of them before

  • @Odysseus1ful exactly roman infantry is superior to phalanx due to its flexibility being both organized like hellenic people and agility like barbarians, although Alexander would put them in an unfavourable position like in Thermopolye (with Spartans, not Macedonians) where romans can't have their flex., Phalanx to the front is always the same result great destruction. But still Romans are also amazing, but they had to lose and learn to achieve it, Alexander never lost one battle. Hail Alex!

  • @EmperorofEurasia yeah the thing about the funny thing about the roman is that they always lose first before victory, but thank phalanx that they learn. Without it they wouldn't be able to develop legionnaire.

  • @Odysseus1ful Yes true!

  • @Praetorian107 even so alexander would be able use cav att roman legion weak point

  • @MarkSkrams Caesar was the greatest.

  • @sanctainquisitio i love Gaius Julius. If i ever have the chance to travel through time i would definitely go back to the time when Rome was the sole superpower of antiquity.

  • @MarkSkrams He was not: Julius Caesar was, andthis is out of any doubt.

  • @TheusZeusDeus

"Does the job in minimal time",yeah sure, conquering all of mediterranian, overcoming several great powers, didn´t require very careful planning, just reckless execution, there is no doubts, just charge in,and things will be resolved, they probably had computers and telecommunications back then......tell me one war machine that did it better than Rome,a Empire of that size conquered to great powers of that time, held for 4 centuries.

    There is none.

  • @TheusZeusDeus You just one the worldwide prize as the most ignorant statement about the roman empire ever. It's so obvious that you don't even understand what a military machine is.

  • Someone on YouTube told me that the Roman soldiers made love amongst one another the night before battle.

    Is this at all true?

  • @Ariel62073 yes, with the mother and sisters of the guy that told you.

  • @sanctainquisitio That doesn't even make sense. How could someone alive today be alive in ancient Roman times?

  • @Ariel62073 because Rome and romans are eternal. ;-)

  • ppl r mad.

  • @ent7ary2012 WRONG ! Battle of YARMOUK 15-20 august 636 ad Byzantines vs Rashidaun Caliphate , once again we are talking about Byzantines NOT CEASAR or AUGUSTUS or SCIPIO or POMPEY or TRAJAN or LUCULLUS this battle took place 500 YEARS AFTER ROME IS AT HER VERY BEST you may as well invade FRANCE tomorrow and say you have beaten NAPOLEON

  • @wexfordboyful Battle of YARMOUK : this was a complex battle between Arab tribes which were aided by much of the Eastern Roman garissons of Syria against a roughly patched E.Roman army made out mainly of Eastern Anatolian troops and some mercenaries. For 4 days Arabs ate the bashing (being militarily less competent) and kept retreating and in the last day the disagreements in the E. Roman army and the fatigue meant that Arabs took the initiative and attacked and won. Treason is also suspected.

  • so over a 600 year period the legions lost some big battles my oh my , problem is if you want to list their victories you are going to need a very very long piece of paper !

  • legions finished carthage, greece & egypt as military powers , when the legions arrived they turned theses former " powers " into military EUNUCHS That is why western military historians describe the roman army ( and only the roman army ) as the greatest fighting force of the ancient world ! For 40 years i have been listening & watching the BBC programmes on military history , and time and time again the historians rate the LEGIONS as the greatest army of all !

  • the BYZANTIUM ARMY ( who were very very good in their own right ) was a REGIONAL army , made up of soldiers defending their own part of the eastern empire , but centuries had past since the LEGIONS RULED land on 3 continents, their connection to the city of ROME was religious and ideological , but you can not make a fair comparison between ARMIES that are CENTURIES apart ! IF U BEAT A GREEK ARMY 300 YEARS AFTER ALEXANDER WOULD THAT BE AS GOOD AS BEATING ONE OF ALEXANDERS ARMY ?

  • THE LEGIONS WERE THE BRAVEST SOLDIERS OF ALL TIME , in ad 60, 20,000 soldiers held down celtic britain whose population historians believe was 3 million at that time !

  • @wexfordboyful Of all time IN EUROPE.

  • @wexfordboyful the bravest soldiers of all time were THE SAMURAIS

  • @burgerkillah Yes, expecially the one pushing the lil kid with a monk haircut in a strange wooden cart i used to watch on tv.

  • if you guys love this and love rts gaming i suggest buying rome total war and its expansions if you'd like and going to total war center website and download the mod roma surrectum 2 for an improved gaming experience and realism
