  • OMG!!! Zinio are copying a smaller company called Other Edition, which do the exact same thing, but are soo much better, they add so much more interactivity and re-design the magazine itself, i think zinio are the tesco of the digital magazine industry!

  • This reader sucks because it cannot show up the voice-read button in the magazine. So why I bpurchased this magazine? It's useless and I still need a PC Zinio reader 4 to listen the context! Disappointed

  • can I still enter and be eligible to receive a free mag?

  • @ChristianTMI Doubtful.

  • Keep up the good video work looking good. When you have time come visit my channel!

  • hi, could you do a video for my game, Fish vs Birds, currently for free :)

    it's really fun.

  • good review

  • @juschill7 Thank you.

  • Great review my friend

  • @Docextreme1 Cheers.

  • 1. I would expect to save about 20% on the cover price of a single issue of a magazine.

    2. I would expect to save 30% off the annual print subscription cost, and not see print subscriptions going for less than I am paying for a digital sub.

    3. I wouldn't pay extra for interactive content as I don't believe it adds much value. But I would really like to see it.

  • 1:18 Billy Joe Armstrong!!! Green Day FtW!!!!!!

  • 1. My main consideration for pricing of singles would be magazines that I wouldn't buy in print but might want a cheaper digital alternative. £1.99 though an alternative would be a price that declines after release date.

    2. I would expect to save at least 30% and would want 50% or more saving with a subscription.

    3. I would want an optimized edition as standard, though depends on what this includes. For additional content beyond what I could get with hyperlinks/google an extra £1-1.50.

  • 1. I think the price point can be reduced by £1 to £2 and possibly a standardized price across the board say £1.99.

2.£14.99 to £19.99 for a subscription (but already seeing some of my favorite magazines with a £5 annual subscription as for the iPad , iPhone versions both using Zinio, and physical versions all sent) So that price could be a lot less and more appealing.

3.I suppose the price of the magazine normally for optimized and additional content, or £1.50 extra in terms of figures.

  • 1st 100 commenters eligible for the free digital magazine still available?

I'm presuming not with nearly 40,000 views :L

  • @CassettePlaya1 Looking at the comments, I think there are still a few places left on this.

  • Text is wayyyy too small. Its not nice to read, and nobody wants to zoom and scroll all the time.

Sadly there are just a few magazine/newspaper apps that dont make that mistake.

  • Great review again. Def subscribing as enjoyed your AppleTv review also and just purchased an iPad so looking for some good reviews. Keep up the great work

  • @markymoo22 Thanks.

  • 1. Expect to save around £1

    2. Pay up to £20 for a magazine subscription.

    3. Optimized editions dont really interest me, so nothing.

    Great review btw :)

  • @JBWedits Thanks for your comment.

  • Nother good App is FlipBoard go to my channel and take a look

  • I love the british people :D

  • any video/article on how to create your own magazine and sell it online? :)

  • the intro music sucks, man.... Video is great though :)

  • hi there,

bit slow on the uptake - but how big (size wise) is a mag on average

    cheers

  • @tannyboy Varies a lot, 32MB-64MB seems to be about right.

  • zinio magazine are awesome, very digitalize text and pictures, including video/photo within the digitial magazine. It almost completely different than reading pdf

  • I want an iPad.

  • 1. It would depend on the magazine, of course. Quality magazines are worth about $3 dollars digital single.

    2. A buck an issue for montly is about right. Less than a dollar for weekly magazines.

    3. Digital content is worth maybe extra $3 a year. You're competing with the web, pricing for your Nat Geo and Maxim is about right.

  • 1. I would pay $2

    2. Annually, I would pay $10

    3. Probably not much more than $1 to $2 additionally.

I read magazines pretty slowly, so I wouldn't pay too much for a magazine.

  • 10£

    2£

  • 1) 1/3 price of printed

    2) 1/3 price of printed

    3) 10% extra

  • 1.- i will pay like 1.50 dollars..

    2 i will pay like 15 dollars...

3.- i will pay like around 5 to 10 dollar... for the update

i really like this idea i like to have all my mags on my ipad thats so cool...

  • Nice review mate. Well done.

  • @toastedbruno Cheers.

  • 1. i would pay $2.50 per issue

    2. $15

    3. I would pay an extra $3

  • 1. Half price than the printed version

    2. 15$

    3. 25% more than the normal version

  • 1. $2.50

    2. $15

    3. $1 per issue, $8 per year-subscription

  • 1, upto $3 for a single issue,

    2, about $15

    3, $8

  • ooooo i want a free magazine:) lol he ipad is dumb. all of my co-workers at apple think the same.

  • Will it blend?

  • @Rogvikh It certainly will :)

  • - i would pay up to 3 - 4 dollars per issue

    - 3 dollars per isseu if its a anual subscriptions

    - an additional 3 dollars

  • 1. i would pay up to $2 for a single issue

    2. ~$15

    3. $5 for annual subscription, maybe $1 for single issue

  • @nickel62 Thanks for your feedback, Zinio will really appreciate it.

  • Did I win a magazine?

  • @Cajuncritic You should get one in a few days time. If you don't post again and I will chase Zinio for you.

  • I would pay about $5 for a single issue, about $30 for a annual subscription, and maybe $5 more for additional extras.

  • @Cajuncritic Thanks for your comment.

  • this is now in the uk app store, some mags are a rip off and cheaper to buy from a shop and some are cheaper to buy from the app

  • @Richard8485 That is a shame if they are cheaper printed.

  • @davomrmac its still a nice app to use and hopefully theyll get things sorted, nice vid by the way

  • is it worth selling my laptop for this?

apart from a huge difference in hard drive/ memory is there much else different?

whats the internet like on this also, do you have to pay? if so how much

im new to apple products so dont really know much :P

  • @superste53 I really don't think you could replace a laptop with this, unless all you do is email & internet. Internet is free on your own WiFi. Outside the house 3G costs different depending on your country and data plan.

  • 1. I expect to save about -25% for a single issue

    2. I'd pay $20 for an annual subsription

    3. I wouldn't expect to pay extra for extra features. But they seem very nice to me.

  • 1. How much would you pay for a single issue of a magazine? If it was just to browse through, it would need to be $2 or $3. Subscription magazines are competing against free web content so it has to be cheap!

    2. How much would you pay for an annual subscription of a magazine?

be happy to pay $20-25 for an annual sub.

    3. How much extra would you pay ADDITIONALLY for an optimized edition?

Would need to see it first - need to evaluate the type of content before deciding definitively.

  • Fantastic review, thanks a lot. Unfortunately it does make the wait for my own ipad feel so much longer ;)

  • @sgtBilko75 Where are you? It is available in a lot more countries today (28th May 2010).

  • @davomrmac

It is a three week wait here is the US...

  • @R1Rider2009 Woah, they are selling so good.

  • 1. I would prefer to pay no more that $1.99 per issue. Or the regular subscription price instead of the regular cover price.

    2. I would expect to save 25% to 30% over the regular annual subscription price.

    3. I would pay up to 50% more for an optimized edition.

  • 1. I would expect to pay 20-35% less than the printed cover price.

    2. I would expect to pay 20-30 dollars for an annual subscription of a magazine.

    3. I would pay an extra 2$ for an optimized edition.

  • WOW nice video, its really nice to see such good information on a vid, the true is you can buy USA iTunes gift cards at this store iTunesgiftScards at COM, they are legit iTunes Gift card store, they deliver to me by email, and Fast, my advise to you :)

    - iTunesGiftSCards?com

  • @truffleerrantpm Good tip, thanks.

  • 1. I expect to save about -20% for a single issue

    2. I expect to save about -35% for an annual subsription

    3. I wouldn't expect to pay extra for those features.

  • damnit I just sold my iPad but this is cool

  • 1. I would pay around....5$. And I think I should save about 20-30% over printed version.

    2. 10-15$

    3. hmmm...depending on quality...probably 10-15% more

  • Is there a possibility that if you connect a headphone with dolby surround sound that you can listen to music in dolby surround sound or is that not possible?

  • @4991nroj Hmmmm, good question. Doubtful, but maybe in the future.

  • 1. Expect single issue to be about 60% of cover price

    2. Expect annual subscription to be about 20% of cover price

    3. About 20% more if well done

  • 1. Not more than a few dollars per. I would expect to save at least half, more when it's international shipping being saved.

    2. $20 or so, would have to save more than 50%

    3. Would pay 10-20% more.

  • 1. For straight conversion, I would expect maybe 10-15% less than print.

    2. Depends on frequency. I would expect 40-60% reduction on monthly price (in line with print). Don't know why international pubs still cost way more.

    3. I would pay a premium for active content, tags, ability to search my library for past issues that contain certain terms. I would also like to see social features on content. I would pay 10% more than print price for that.

Great review, exactly what I needed. Thanks!

  • @t1bbs Have a look at the PixelMags option. They've been amazing regards to pricing. $0.99cUSD for first issues. Between $0.99USD and $4.99USD for back issues. I've seen some of my favorite mags subscriptions for 6 months priced at $9.99USD. Pretty damn good! I also don't need to go into the Zinio store to view them each time. They sit right on my ipad, iphone desktop. A+++++

  • 1. I would expect to pay about 2/3 of the cover price.

    2. I would expect to pay about 2/3 of the normal subscription price.

    3. I wouldn't expect to pay extra for those features.

  • Can you save the issues of a magazine after you have downloaded them on your iPad to make space on your iPad?

  • @VinnyTheCuz You can delete from the iPad and download again at another date, or on another device. Really easy, your Zinio account remembers your purchases.

  • 1. I would expect around 15-25% savings from the printed price.

    2. I would pay $9.99 - $14.99 depending on the magazine.

    3. I would pay an additional $2-3 for added features.

  • 1. I WOULD LOVE TO PAY $1-$2 an issue...but realistically even 50% of the real prize would be awesome.

    2. Hmmm...Annual Subscribption? $30-$40...would be awesome

    3. I would pay maybe $3 more an issue for those features.

  • Yes! Please do more iPad videos

  • 1. would pay around 99p-1.99 for issue (honestly wouldnt go above this)

    2. 9.99 for subscription

    3. 9.99 (19.99 per year)

  • 1. I would be happy to pay $2-5 per issue.

    2. Around $20-50 a special dell perhaps where special deal for getting a years subscribtion in one go.

    3. Around $5-10 for aditional features. Thoe a discount feature for more then one issue would be good.

  • I played that video today in my presentation about the iPad, all my friends and coworkers were asking me about your channel to subscribe to it. seriously man, you're more than amazing for sharing your videos with us. thanks again! now I officially watched all your iPad's reviews. can't wait for more.

  • @iFaisalTube Oh wow, thanks for that, I really appreciate you showing the video in a presentation.

  • I would expect to pay $4-5 for a single issue of a popular magazine, but would also like to see some deals ($.99) for smaller magazine types. For a subscription Around $8-13 for a year. I think they should have extra content like video, links etc. without extra charge. I think it's pretty much expected.

  • 1. I would expect to pay 50% - 75% of the printed price

    2. I would expect to save around 30% - 50%.

    3. I think I would be willing to pay £1 extra per publication to get these extra features

  • Is Zinio working nice on the iPad? It's kind of a piece of crap on iPhone.

  • @VinnyTheCuz Works great for me.

  • @davomrmac Thanks for the quick reply. Do you know how much MB does one magazine take on the hard drive? Have you tried Zinio on iPhone?

  • @VinnyTheCuz It varies, smallest is 13MB, largest is 64MB on mine.

  • @VinnyTheCuz Not sure on that one and no, not on the iPhone for me.

  • wow id like that... hope im within the 100 comments.

  • This app looks like one great reason to own the iPad.

    In response to the questions:

    1. I think anything from 30% upwards savings wise would be what I would expect. I would not want to pay cover price.

    2. I would subscribe to The Hockey News, which appears to cost £25ish here. At 30 issues, thats less than £1 an issue, so the savings would be big here.

    3. I would be willing to foot an extra $2 per publication to get extra features such as video etc.

  • 1.: I would like to save 30-50% per printed magazine

2.: I would like to save 50-70% per annual subscription prive

3.: If the additional features have a function, I could pay 5-10% more

  • how to u get it delivered to the uk? plz reply

  • @moysd A friend sent it over for me.

  • @davomrmac ohh ok cool wish a had a friend in the us :( then i could get an ipad lol

  • 1. I would pay 80% of the printed price if the experience was very intuitive and smooth.

    2. I would pay 90% of what the current printed subscription price is.

    3. I would not pay extra for additional features unless they were beneficial to the content being read.

I have had a chance to use Zinio on iPad and see a very high amount of potential. Once the app becomes a bit more stable and smooth as I'm sure future updates will do, I will start purchasing several subscriptions.

  • Free digi mag

    1. 70% of printed price

    2. As long as it works out cheaper but it should be the same price for all magazines

3.I think it should come at no extra cost,

  • Free digital mag offer :

    1. I think I would be happy to pay 50% of printed cover price

    2. I would be happy to pay 50% of annual subsciption price for printed version

    3. I would pay additional 10%

    thanks

    Nigel.

  • 1. I would pay up to the same price as cover.

    2. I would pay up to the same price as cover.

    3. I would pay up to 20% more for extended content.

I´m From Colombia so cover price and magazines on time is quite a good deal for me

  • Don't buy the 3G version use your Droid or iphone myfi.

  • do you need to be connected to the internet view the videos built into the magazine??

  • @moemo73 As far as I can tell it streams it, so yes you would need to be connected.

  • Not ChillNation?

    Oh well, AWESOME VIDEO DAVE!!!

  • @yoyo10231995 LOL, no, not Chillnation.

  • @davomrmac :P

  • nicely done.

  • hey dave, lovely review i was on the lookout for a good magazine reader for my macbook and thanks to your review i went to the Zinio website and found out that they also provide readers for other platforms and not only the ipad. thanks a lot.

    cheers

  • @abhedya Yes, that is handy. If you purchase on one device, you can watch it on another too.

  • Nice to see a local review, guess it is the first UK version on youtube.

Just one question, do the U.S version have warranty in UK?

  • @waynefangyang International Warranty on Apple kit.

  • It says you have an update for an app in the app store, but I thoguht you couldn't access the app store on the device because its not the UK one?

  • @nickbu1 Yes that is correct. If I click the icon it won't allow the update. Until UK release u have to do updates through iTunes.

  • @davomrmac I see, thanks

  • Could you get the iwork set of apps for the iPad to see how they perform? This might be the decider for if i get the ipad or not.

  • @cazthegamer They are not available yet in the UK and I have a UK iTunes account. I will review them as soon as available.

  • Another nice one Dave - Thanks.
