Did my time under tired porous C 9 surplus canopies (ouch) and later, Paracommanders. I am still jumping regularly at age 60 thanks to ram air canopies. I'd have hung it up years ago if not for these amazing ram airs that can give you tiptoe landings nearly every time if flown conservatively. Soooo much better than the old round chutes.
I totally agree - I started on rounds too it took ages to get through the old category system. I have had a few years break but will be jumping again this year very soon. I am currently having a 1969 Delta II Parawing refurbished which will be back in the air this year also I managed to pick up a 1971 Mk1 Paracommander which again will be back in the air this year (O:
Dude I would not beat yourself up about it - that is the progression of the sport and bloody Nora am I glad that it has progressed. Do you know that there are far more fatalities now than ever and that is not because of malfunctions these are on landings with high performance canopies. Great comment though it does make you realize just how far our sport has evevolved - many Blue Skies to you (O:
You reckon those landings under a Paracommander look hard? Lookshury !!! Try a backed-off landing under a C9 28 foot canopy with a 7-TU modification in a 15 knot seabreeze. That's when the sport formed.

Goddamn, I am a total pussy for learning to skydive in the 2000's, in the age of ram-air, AAD's, audibles and skyhooks. These dudes are tough.
