i found the plot to be lacking, there was absolutely no reason for the alien to cross at the "border", and no reason for the "border patrol" not to let him cross. if a little more thought and development were put into this it could've been cute, dare i say it even funny.

The lipstick was the same color as the border line. The alien extended the line around him, making the gate useless. So since he was on the other side of the line by technicality, the gate had to let him through.

I don't know for sure, but it sure looks like the point is that the border itself is pointless. It wouldn't matter if he did step over the red line... the point is that he wouldn't have BEAT the semaphore if he had simply stepped over it. This is about conflict, not practicality.

In other words, the conflict over borders, which are in essence just imaginary lines that have been drawn in the dirt... Any so many have died because people ignore this - and work themselves up into conflict...

Yes, I think that's exactly right. part of the comedy of this film is the fact that the border is just a line! And he can overcome it by just drawing his own line! After all, a border is simply a line on a map.

while he found lipstick, and was going to use it against border, semaphore squirmed and stretched, what was so binding attention, that I lost very short sequence, where drawing "bypass" border was shown. So that this action, which does have sense, was plus minus submliminal... and I was confused, why did semaphore / border "collapsed".
