If you sink into your stances, these techniques all become much more plausible. They are all great techniques, but in the video they look like part of a form done by low level students. Sink into your steps and use your legs then abs to fling your arms into position. Otherwise, the attacks will all be powerless & the throws simply will not work unless you get very lucky.
This is a demo, training is ugly, fighting is uglier. We train to be able to hurt people and to be able to heal people. This is a very complete system so parts of it look like every system you have ever seen.
They're simply doing the techniques slowly and carefully not to hurt one another and so you can clearly see how they're applied. My guess is that those making negative comments never studied anything.
@41312111 ive been doing mantis for 8 years now so yea very long time, however they dont train u the same way anymore most school will pass u on to the next level with a mediocre understanding of the basics
@41312111 Oh I know there are people out there who train to hurt people. They might have their own misguided intentions to justify it, but that goes against kung fu's principle. So I don't legitimately consider them to be kung fu practitioners. Kung fu is about balance and harmony, making peace inside and out, not hurting people. They might use techniques from the kung fu styles, but they're fighters, not kung fu. I hate to sound like a fortune cookie, but it's hard to explain.
@1Dilerium just confront them head on and you'll know.. for me, i don't think they are.. even this is a slow motion, these moves are really hard to do in a harmony like that..
alot of useless standing armlock techniques, weak throws, and arm punches. I even saw a fireman carry takedown. this wont work in a fight coz it has alot moving parts in short distance. you want a snap rather than a combo attack in close distance while gauging your range to do whatever. look at chinese boxing competitions. they have fancy techniques but they couldnt hit shit coz either their ability to gauge their range sucks or theyre too afraid to engage in close distance without clinching.
@beatlecaballero67 These can be used in a real fight. the firemans carry is taught in a few styles as well as even high school wrestling. Once you have control of certain elements its easy enough.
So many techniques! Thank you for posting. One thing...the tall fellow has a very bad habit of putting his arm out when he falls. It is a dangerous tendency. I know you guys practice a lot of falls so he should know better!
I enjoyed this demonstration very much. Last night I dreamed that I was in the future trying to teach the survivors of the appcolypse Bung bo but kept losing my balance hahaha. I always have h ard time keeping balance and feet on the ground in dreams.. ANyway thanks for sharing! have a good one!
Who is your Sifu if I may ask? I am a student of sifu michael haley in 8 step praying mantis kung fu.
Also, why do you always let go of the person's arm after you throw them? I've always been trained not to do so as it lets them put up their guard more easily, among other things.
and to the person who was commenting about the green sash... the reason you didn't see most of these, is because this was a training video that was put together so they could go to nationals in l.a. and becom sifu (instructors) alot of this doesn't get seen untill you are in atleast the black sash/silver mantis rankings
i believe it was nick, wade and sifu isaac from here in sioux city, sucks that they shut down our school... 8 step employs a lot of variants from a few chinese martial arts, and is somewhat similar to wushu... the only difference is that wushu is not a combat form of kung fu, and 8 step is. i can personally say that this is one of the best workouts you will every find!
Nice bro, but you look a little to stiff and unnatural. Spend some time in and around water and prictice freestyle in the wind and you will start to notice a difference.
How do you handle kicks fron f.eks muay thai crazy dude that kicks MANY kilos of force in under 1 sec?
Very direct and good art it seems like, also fun to practise, and much filosofy and softness too. I Like it. Selv I train Wing Chun, it reminds a bit.
8 step is a mix martail art of shuai chiao praying mantis and chin na so yes you do see the chinesse wrestling but that whould be incorect to call it shuai chiao. this is 8 step praying mantis.
I see from your videos that you have some political motivation in what you are saying. You don't have to be afraid. If your kung fu is really good, then go spar an 8 Step Shifu. All the vids you desplay are of forms. Do you see how worn that matt is? Do you know how much blood it has seen? How many challenge matches? Stop heckling from the shadows you coward.
If Wing Chun and Judo had offspring it'd look sort of like this...trust me, I went to college KML.

@1Dilerium Nah i'd say atleast 6 months in, Kung fu isn't like other martial arts, you have to train for YEARS to master the basics.

You need to discipline your image. Do you think I got where I am today by dressing like Peter Pan here?
Do you think anybody wants a roundhouse kick to the face while im wearing these bad boys?
