  • Sviatoslav Richter was right.

  • Does anyone know how to properly pronounce his name? I'm thinking it's either Hyne-rich New-hos or Hyne-rick New-hos.

    Clarification would be nice =)

  • @Jazzadrin Hyne-rich Noy-house

  • Neuhaus is the best. Thank you very much for posting this. VK

  • Richter's and Gilels teacher^^

  • nobody plays Kreisleriana like that today !!!!!! extraordinaire !!! just Horowitz may be... but I like.

  • In the recording I have heard, Horowitz interprets this piece with much greater fluidity and sublety of expresssion than any other pianist I have heard--Neuhaus included.

  • I agree, but there is a distinct similarity in the interpretations and that can be no accident, considering how radically different this piece sounds from pianist to pianist. I think amongst those in the know, Horowitz is the 'ne plus ultra' of interpreters of this mighty work, and this has perhaps informed more recent performances by people like Kissin and Pletnev. Even still there is enormous variety in detail.

That is why I thought it noteworthy to remark on the interpretative similarity

  • Poetic playing, reminiscent of Horowitz and there can be no greater comparison..

Indeed Horowitz must have been influenced by Neuhaus, the similarities are too great. Horowitz is still the greatest interpreter of the work, if only because of his superior fingers (perhaps a little greater expressiveness and clarity of articulation in the allegro sections).

  • My God, where do you find these?? Thank you once again, we piano-files are becoming dependent on your uploads!!

  • what are the "smith comments"??????

  • Neuhaus >>>> a god a god!!!!!! Iìm crazy for Schumann and this pianist too!!!!!

  • @ilovescarlatti There is a movie with Katherine Hepburn and a German actor whose name I cannot recall, however she plays the role of Schumann's wife, Clara Wieck. VERY GOOD, apparently she married him and he was a lot older than her. They had a lot of children and in the movie Brahms (of BRAHM'S lullaby) comes to live with them and to study with SCHUMANN. very good movie

  • @grace230608 Song of Love, 1947

  • In the opening Egorov clearly shows more contrast by painting the area of the second minute with some beautiful strokes of poignance that have more affect and dimension than Neuhaus which makes his return to the tumult all the more effective.Full details in my Comments section.

  • Later today Walter Gieseking shall battle Heinrich Neuhaus to see who will face Vladimir Sofronitsky, who vanquished Joseph Hofmann in a a tough semifinals match in the Kreisleriana tournament.

  • We are anxiously awaiting....

  • Dear Joyce,I made the review but YouTube censors are prohibiting it's posting.

  • Oh MY GOODNESS>>>!!!! THIS IS A TREASURE. Music must be played this way. I LOVEEEEEEE SCHUMANN like crazy.

  • In what year was this recorded? Thanks for posting all these HN recordings, I'm having such a great time listening to them!

  • The best performance of "Kreisleriana"! Thank You very much for posting!

  • I AWARD THIS 3 CLARAS...as I feel that this performance while missing many attractive turns of phrase, still captures many things very well.I particularly love how he captures

the Queer combination Schumann has here of going nowhere in a big hurry.I also feel that he always not only knows the meaning of what this is,but that he is actually not lost in his pianism...and is trying to and succeeding at communicating the full psyche here..

  • you seem a dangerously disturbed individual

  • Psychobabble.

  • OMG Neuhaus! How'd you get this? Thanks for sharing!

  • This is an old but well known recording...

I'm glad you are interested - looks like you are quite serious about music! Good luck to you!

  • @truecrypt Which years is it please? I gess it is one take! He has been one of the greatest teacher of all time. I read his book about playing the piano. Thanks for sharing.

  • @Kiarinadia

    Between 1947 and 1952.

  • Is it a piano roll?

  • This piano (although modern)has been tuned and or voiced to approxiamate the vulunerable moonlit shimmer so common to the pianos of Schumann's day.

  • what nonsense!

  • What nonsense?

  • Dear Ghost,

I'm so sorry about your five thumb downs...

  • sounds like the most beautiful musical performance ever.
