  • @AbsoluteZeroMusic I think its rude to connect people to stuff that has no relation to what they are listening to.

  • hot!

  • rooster 0:47 xD

  • Actually, i'd say it's likely a kinescope - film shot off a monitor.

  • class

  • @scartissue94 you are fucking retarded. Vinson was a whimsy little bitch. The only thing that he did that was good was end nirvana so Dave could make foo fighters.

  • Mine too :)

  • my name is louise too

  • My name is Louise =.=

  • I'm sorry but comparing Cobain to Lennon is like comparing Tiny Tim to Led Zeppelin. theres no comparison. Lennon crushes cobain any day. and thats a fact, jack.

  • geez! i need to change my pants after hearing eric tear that shit up!

  • who wrote this song? I just know the Canned Heat song

  • @tubegucker1 Little Richard originally sang this not sure who wrote it.

  • @216corbin John Lee Hooker wrote it. It's right there in the comments to the video if you click the expand button.

  • It is shame clapton doesn't play with these guys again.

  • Great song, the best version, RIP KEITH REIF

  • Just dumped two BJM vids to make way for this example of quality ,style,& musicianship - from Antiquity !

  • the ultimate jam sesion band. somehow nobody talks about them. lol

  • @lewallen86 see: Os velhos da montanha

  • The quality of the footage here simply suggests that this clip is a few generations away from the master. This is floating around in better quality, but this is certainly watchable.

  • I learned a lot of my early blues guitar chops from this vid when I was 12 or 13 now I'm fifteen and I know like a shit load more music and I still like blues music

  • I just wish Clapton would get up onstage with the present day Yardbirds and jam with them. It would be awesome!

  • wow clapton was like 17 or 18 during this. he is amazing. he makes that guitar sing here doesnt he

  • R.I.P. Gulf of Mexico...lol

  • Its Jimmy Page on Lead you MORNON!

  • @89brink50 Wrong

  • @89brink50 nope it's clapton so your the moron, btw it's not mornon either Jimmy Page joined in '66

  • @89brink50 I wouldn't call someone else a moron when you make a comment like that.

  • No one knows anything.

  • am liking this song xP

  • I have my tickets to see The Yardbirds on Sunday May 23 at Tangiers Akron Ohio.

  • Can't wait to see The Yardbirds on May 23 at the Boulton Center Bayshore, NY.

  • Wasn't Clapton like 18 at the time of this recording?!

    Amazing!!!

  • Wow, thisis rare...The Yardies with "God"Eric...

  • Yardbirds will rule BB Kings New York City on May 26 and Boulton Center Bayshore NY on May 27.

  • @nysixitiesrocker I don't know how those guys can call themselves the yardbirds without Keith Relf

  • @fiendwithoutaface66 Keith Relf was a great singer but he passed away along time ago. The Yardbirds that touring now have original founding members Chris Dreja & Jim Mccarty. They were always a band that showcased the best british musicians. And now its no different. You have to hear guitarist Ben King, bassist Dave Smale and singer Andy Mitchell. I saw them last year at The Fillmore in NYC and Westbury Music Fair Long Island NY and they were fantastic. Go see The Yardbirds.

  • @nysixitiesrocker it's just hard to believe Chris Dreja and Jim McCarty can use the whole yardbirds name when there's nobody else around. Why doesn't Jeff Beck, Page, Clapton, Topham, Samwell Smith get involved ever? It just seems like the yardbirds died in 1968 and that was the end. I can understand them using the yardbirds name of course and respect them for still playing shows, but it's just not the same without Keith especially to me.

  • @nysixitiesrocker I have an original yardbirds fillmore poster. I wonder if I could get McCarty and Dreja to sign it? I don't know how approachable they are but that would be nice. I wasn't aware of their upcoming NY shows. They played at BB Kings another time in the past too but I passed on it.

  • @fiendwithoutaface66 They seem pretty nice. Write to them on their website and ask.

  • hey boys come back to Canada

  • Tangiers in Akron Ohio has The Yardbirds on May 23.

  • too bad jimmy page is no more with them.

  • @KingsField418 Even better what if they could get Jimmy Page to play bass guitar and get Jeff Beck on lead guitar. This was a previous line-up. Its just not going to happen. Jeff Beck on lead and the two other remaining members would do it for me. That would be strong.

  • I have tickets for the bayshore show also.

  • I can't wait to see The Yardbirds again. They are playing at Boulton Center in Bayshore, New York on May 27. I saw them last year at Westbury. Hot hot show.

  • great song, Keith is great

  • The Yardbirds with original members Chris Dreja & Jim McCarty will be on US tour in 2010; May 21 Montgomery College Robert Parilla PAC Rockville MD; May 22 Chesapeake Blues Festival Annapolis MD; May 23 Tangiers Akron OH; May 25 Sellersville Theatre Sellersville PA; May 26 BB Kings New York NY; May 27 YMCA Boulton Center for The Perforning Arts Bayshore NY; May 28 Showcase Live Foxbourgh MA; May 30 Memorial Day Weekend Festival Viriginia Beach VA.

  • i saw this lineup in London in November 2009 and they really are great. andy mitchell brings a lot of spirit to the band-

  • Relf is so underrated...

  • slowhand. so awesome

  • relf isnt that bad. hes not great but he fits the music. for most of the stuff. not Train and Dazed.

  • Eric very good

  • magic starts at 0:00! gnarly licks the whole way through, teenage Slowhand was such a pro pay special attention to the fills at :32 and :39 after Relf's vocal lines i nearly laugh everytime i hear them

  • Keith Relf was a great singer

  • Wow, his tone here is very different from laters years when he played gibsons and Marshalls. Do you think it was a vox amp or a fender?

  • fender telecaster through a vox ac30,usually

  • !!!CLAPTON!!!

  • magic starts from 2:04

  • ALVIN FROM THE CHIPMUNKS IS NUMBER 5

  • So you can see a young Eric Clapton on the left side (front) !!

  • what a great solo! really nice phrasing and not a lot of distortion just pinchin those great sounds out of that guitar!

  • Not bad, but, Eric Burdon still kicks ass!

  • Its silly to debate three hall of fame guitarists of the Yardbirds. They were all at different stages in their career, all had different contributions. And most importantly all went on to do their best work after this group, although Beck had two stellar moments with "Shapes" and "Over Under". Nice work by Relf throughout and thanks for sharing a nice video...

  • I'd argue each did their best work in this band. It gets a little tiresome and boring hearing about the constant ass kissing of these three guys though- the rest of the band were great as well. It's like nobody actually listens to the yardbirds and just uses them for a footnote.

  • Yea, outside their hits the yardbirds are vastly underrated. They pioneered every major development in rock and people don't realize that Relf and McCarty were largely responsible for the bands progressive and experimental sound. As for who was the best guitarist WITHIN the yardbirds, I'd say Beck since he was the best at expressing the others' artistic vision.

  • I love how dopey bastards who could not play a note to save their own life, like to yabber on about who was the best at anything.Opinions are like arseholes...everyone has one, get over it boys.

  • amazing

  • Am I correct in saying that Clapton is the one closest to the camera when they just show the 3 guitarists?

  • Yes. Clapton is the chinless one of the three.

  • clapton was the fourth best guitarist in the Yardbirds.... Beck, Page and then Topham

  • fuck page, and beck. claptons the best guitarists out of that group you retard.

  • are you stupid?! :S.. Clapton was maybe the best (possibly tied with Jimm Page)

  • oh yeah? check out the "i aint got you" solo, and you will know if he sucked.

  • None of them made top five guitarists ever (according to rollingstone anyways)

  • dude, kurt cobain made that list.

    rolling stone is f'd up

  • according to them Cobain is no. 14 and Gilmour is 87 so it shows how much they know.

  • I don't care about what people say, for me, Gilmou is #1.

    Said.

  • that is heinous.

  • yea and van halen is 70 how stupid

  • @EmpZappa66

In my opinion, I think that Kurt Cobain is just as skilled as a guitarist as John Lennon was. Neither of them were known as guitar gods, but they thought up of very original riffs and songs, while also singlehandedly grabbing their generation's attention.

I disagree with that list too, but I hope you get what I'm saying.

  • @scartissue94 ... 94 implys you are 16... chunking john lennon and kurt cobain in a boat is fucking stupid. so lets forget george harrison, and the fact you have a chilli peppers username and be quiet now.

  • @EdEckersley

Why would my age have anything to do with this? I like a variety of bands, so what.

I just think that the way John Lennon and Kurt Cobain changed their generations is pretty similar.

  • @EmpZappa66 Even though I love Nirvana, thats just wrong. Gilmour is amazing

  • the guitar solo is fuckin brilliant

    clapton is god

  • po ,,małym" rozpadzie grupy zespół znany później jako Led Zeppelin

  • Muito bom, esse é clássico !

  • I was looking through this book titled "The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Guitar Heroes" and There are 3 guitar legends nearer to the FRONT of the book!: Jimmy Paige, Eric Clapton, and Jeff Beck!

  • Gnarly.

  • Clapton and Page rock

  • You can find this clip on the video "The Cream of Eric Clapton".

  • O yes his voice a little husky and nasal. I like it.

  • Wow, I didn't realize how great Relf's voice is!

  • Eric SlowHand Clapton rules

  • Comment removed

  • It's Clapton . One of the few videos of the Yardbirds when Clapton was with the group .

  • Thanks, as soon as I looked again it was obviously Clapton. Like you said, rare treat!

    Thanks garageman!

  • AWESOME just great

  • True, and he was only about 18 when this clip was filmed-what a talent!

  • I've heard that Clapton left this band when it turn too commercial, just another myth? who knows?

  • He leaved the band after "For your love" because it was to pop. He was then a blues purist.

  • Yep, for a while :D. I guess he started to love money, or it wasn't the real reason why he left. Cream was one of the first superbands it was pop. Maybe they haven't played pop like nowadays pop bands with the usual g*yrock, but they're definetly pop. And after the Derek he played pop, songs with Mark Knopfler, Tina Turner, etc... he did pop anyway.

  • yes but in '65 and '66 he played with Bluesbreackers.and it was surely blues.then he played pop for a short amound of time with Cream but Cream was in main psihedelic rock. and blues was in mainstrem till 1970.

  • cream is psychedellic blues

  • Sure he played some serious blues as well, but he I guess needed the money and realised blues can't be sold. anymore (thank God, cause I'd hate myself for adoring blues if it was everyday on the radio). So... Eric is still the best guitarist in my eyes, and my all time favorite, but if I played the guitar I'd choose SRV's style.

  • Yes keith was super and nice looking guy..

  • And great harp player!!

  • Eric Clapton was born to play the blues!

  • that tele sounds great in clapton's hands, absolutely love his licks in this one

  • There's a version of this song by Howlin' Wolf on "The Real Folk Blues," on the Chess label.

  • Howlin' Wolf was one of the greatest bluesmen ever. A lot of mid-60's bands covered his songs.

  • I 100% agree. in fact, he may be THE greatest bluesman ever.

  • u mean besides bb king of course

  • Thanks for posting this. But let me say this is not a John Lee Hooker song. Its roots might be lost in the fog of time (or the highways, bayous and juke-joints of the Mississippi Delta, more likely) but the guy - in Post-War Blues - who made this famous was Mississippi Fred McDowell (who first recorded in 1959), based on Johnny Temple's Louise Louise Blues (1936). Of course we wouldn't know any of this if it wasn't for The Yardbirds

  • Wow! This has a wonderful, Old Grey Whistle Test feel about it, even though it predates that show by about ten years. Early Clapton was awesome - best white blues guitarist ever.

  • Keith Relf was such a talented musician.... May he rest in peace......

  • Clapton was by far the best guitarist the Yardbirds had.

  • they had two little-known guitarists as well...

  • you mean page and beck?

  • God clapton is soooo good!!!

  • that's because clapton is God!!!

  • white boys can blues!

  • me encanta me encanta me encanta!!

    hermoso!!

    =)

    =)

    =)

    gracias por subir el video!!

    ;)

    Aerobarby de Argentina!

  • every part of this performance was perfect,

and that solo is so sweet...

  • Are you thinking of Ron Wood? Early on it was Brian Jones and Richards. Mick Jagger used to hang out with Gram Parsons then and some other country rock players. He was just learning the honky tonk.

  • Stones? Brian Jones founded the band and in the early years wrote most of the music. He just died, and they kept developing. Key person in the R.S. Maybe like Syd Barrett to Floyd, but more true to their epic sound.

  • Keith Relf sounds like Eric Clapton singing or visa-versa.

  • Right on, but Samwell Smiths's driving bass was just as an important feature of the Yardbirds music, especially live. His crescendo bass runs(listen to Smokestack Lightning on their first album) really gave them a unique sound.

  • clapton's licks are great in this

  • Clapton is God!

  • they got the name from Charlie Parker, whose nickname was "Yardbird"

  • so good bluesharp solo...

  • Relfie doesn't do it much justice.

  • I think Keith is just right for this song, and his harp playing is awesome.

  • relf does just fine - do you have any idea what is was like for them playing in a TV studio in this era? those TV engineers had no concept of how to mix a live rock & roll band, and who knows what kind of monitor setup they had...he rises about the technical challenges and delivers...

  • somehow the German and American engineers behind the "Beat! Beat! Beat!" show managed a very consistent and great mix (and live broadcast) of The Yardbirds, Hendrix, The Kinks ... and dozens of others. hmmm ...

  • i found a good deal of the "beat, beat, beat" work to be just fine, sure. the experienced and knowledgeable engineers did indeed do well on many occasions. this clip is not from that show, of course, and i am of the mind that this mix fell down in spots. but i do give the "beat, beat, beat" engineers credit where credit is due - as you say.

  • Hey bigfrank, just wondering why exactly he should have shot them for this...just wondering what your reasoning is.

They were just english kids who loved the music and tried to play it. Of course it will sound different but still, sounds sweet. Anyways, Im looking for a reply.

  • I love this song!!!

    Eric Clapton!

    and Keith!!!

    :)

    bye!

    Bárbara from Argentina!

  • Clapton amazing best guitarist in my books

  • Great Song! Great band! Clapton is my favourite guitarrist after Hendrix!

    Mto Bom vei!

  • That is my favorite clapton solo.

  • your absolutely right

  • And he actually rocks.

  • It sucks so much how Relf died. 33 years old, but never forgoten

  • No distortion boys, get a load.

  • My all-time favorite group!!!!!!

  • How random is the stage?!

  • wats your name? just kidding

  • haha! =P

  • one of my favourite clapton performances, the lead guitar just flows amazingly well through the whole, not to mention the wonderful solo!

  • Thanks so much for posting this. Great stuff, I really enjoy it.

  • clapton is god

  • nice rift

  • Love it! How 'bout that blues harp

  • yes

  • is eric clapton playing a telecaster?

  • yeh he bought it cause of muddy its even the same colour

  • Thnks 4 sharing!

  • Great stuff from the Clapton era of the Yardbirds. He made it look easy, even back then, as a youngster.

  • Happy Birthday Keith!
