  • what is the name of that first transition with the orange?

  • what is the song? i like it....i like it a lot

  • em... i guess the image is quite blury for film but i am hoping it is because of the compresion

  • wait soo let me get this straight u used to use an external monitor Why is that what does the external monitor offer?? so im guessing this monitor is attatched thus doing this " flip " u no longer need the external monitor

So what is gained by doing this flip?? What exactly is the flip???

    Tell me what it does???.....,

All i understand is that u no longer have to carry the extra weight of an external monitor,.......?

  • What he is saying is that the DOF 35mm adapter when put on the camera lens it flips the image upside down, and sideways too. By having a flip module, that has two mirrors inside, corrects the image and flips it back to normal. Thus u don't need a external monitor that u usually turn upside down, so u can see properly. I do prefer a monitor anyway as u will ned a bigger picture for focusing purposes.

  • wat is the redrock micro exactly and whats its purpose. are there any cheap camera's by panasonic or any make that offers 24p give me suggestions for cameras in alower price range

  • The redrock micro allows the use of 35mm SLR lenses to be put onto a camera. It repicates the look of film. And yes, there are many cheap cameras with 24P and mic inputs. Look up any Canon Vixia model camera.

  • How did you actually hack it? I'm thinking about getting a redrock for my 100b, but heard about the image flip issues. Let me know... thanks!

  • I got a letus so I wouldn't have to deal with the image flip, but now redrock has an adapter that'll flip the image too

  • movie look fucking awesome

  • good job!

    looks great

  • nice! a litle Q? the focusing it's an effect? or something else?.....I like the color...thanks!!!

  • The Redrock is so great! I like the film flash effects you added in, it really made it look more like film.

  • gaaah, please, you who know this stuff! Im a noob who´s trying to make his footage looking as nice as it can on the dvx100. But my footage looks like webcam material, just bad quality video with lines showing up as soon as i move the camera a little! Some ideas why this might be?.... im getting mad with this!

  • I see the tripod shortage has no signs of abating.

  • george harrison?

  • Hi! Hod did you get the 16:9 view?

  • This video is not in 16x9 this video is in 4x3 Letterbox.

    Thanks,

  • but the DVX has "stretch" capabilities, which is basically true 16x9.

    btw, it's "how'd"

  • I had to stop this at 1:25 to say: "this is a cool, fun dad"

Clearly kids are having a blast.

Just ordered my DVX100b from B&H.

  • I'm getting mine from B&H. I hear that they're very reliable. how was your experience with them?? Thanks. :)

  • muy bueno es como de cine

  • There's a bunch of comments, so maybe this has already been asked, but how did you get that 'blown out' film looking look? Where the colors come in intermittently. It happens several times throughout, but you also use it right at the end.

  • its just an effect you can achieve in post.

    It's called a Film Burn I believe.

    -Robbie

  • Where in post? After Effects? Final Cut? Something else..?

  • How did you export the video?

  • Check out other videos using Sorrenson Squeeze in order to export directly to .flv files in order to get better looking compression.

  • thanks. Great video too.

  • That was a question for corbs808 :)

  • this looks great. Jon Brion is always a good choice too.

  • I was wondering were did you buy the red rock from? any sites?

  • from redrock website they r expensive like 2000 $

  • why not just buy a Canon XL1 or XL2...? you get this look will the shouldermount huge lens camera, and it is F/1.6 throughout the entire zoom range all the way to 20x...why pay double for a 35mm adaptor?

  • You no way in hell get the same precision and DOF especially when you are measuring your focus

  • I know that you probably prefer Canon Xl1 or Xl2 over DVX100b, but which camera is better.

I know that they both shoot at 24p but which one has the better video quality? And if you have a canon Xl2 it already has the lense for the 35mm effect?

  • I owned both the xl1 and xl2 and sold them to buy the DVX100b... It just has that thing that Canon just doesn't have... The Panasonic Mojo...

  • @NC17z what would that mojo be?, looking at the stats, the XL2 seems such a more powerful capable camera than the DVX100? and it looks the part :D

  • Great job.. This video actually lead me to search more about the M2 and the magic bullet.. I'm a photographer who wants to get into dv.. Ended up buying the Red Rock and the HV20.. Thanks NC17z.

  • This is Awesome. I love love love it.

After seeing your clip I really want to go forward with the DVX100b. I am new at this so Im wondering if I will be in over my head or can I start out simple using fewer features and then progress gradually?

I would love to hear your opinion. What would you recommend for the minimum start up needs???

    Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ah, just read other comments, Art Beats. Never mind! :D Thanks anyway!

  • Hey man, where did you get the film burn effects from?

  • good choice with the jon brion

  • Very cool. Are the film burns from the magic bullet plugin as well?

  • The images look soft, not sharp & crisp. Is the raw footage soft as well?

  • Magic Bullet plugin softens the look.

  • Bokeh is the what I'm trying to achieve with the M2.

  • Jon Brion?

  • Yes.

  • Very nice. What lenses did you use for this. AND flipped the image hack?? How did you work that one out. As im thinking of getting the HVX200 but on top of that have to think about an external montior cost.

    Thanks

  • Oh i see, you used Art Beats for the overexposure flashes - i have that series too. Very nice.

  • the overexposure flashes (red/orange/yellow ones) how do you create that because i always see it in surf videos but i'm not sure how to do it. Please let me now howto. Thnx

  • This is insane man - it actually films like it's an old 16mm camera - the shallow DOF and the exposure flashes. unique indeed. Is that all DVX? or did you process that on a PC? I'm thinking about getting one of these. Any advice?

  • can anybody tell me what exactly 24p is? i wanna buy a dvx100b but i wanna know a lil more about filming before i do. am i going to need to buy lenses for the picture quality to be better?

  • 24p is short for 24fps, which stands for "frames-per-second." It's different from the standard camcorder that shoots at 30fps because 24fps gives it the "motion picture film" feel to the video; it also gives it more of a slow smooth quality. The dvx100b is capable of mimicking a motion picture camera by being able to shoot at 24fps. It's cheaper than renting a 16 or 35 millimeter motion picture camera. I'm looking to buy one too but it's really pricey (like $3,000 pricey).

  • Look on ebay.

It's worth buying one, but don't tell yourself that your stuff is gonna look like film. It'll still look like video, but it'll have film's cadence.

  • the p in 24p stands for progressive the image is scanned progressively instead of interlaced...which gives it a film like appearance at 24fps

  • You need a steadicam bro.

  • I have a GlideCam V-8 however, what suggestions do you have for critical focus with a M2 Lens adapter which requires critical focus and my Glidecam? I have yet to see someone pull it off. If you have some footage you'd like to share of a Steadicam with a Lens Adapter I'd love to see it.

  • NC17z,

Do you have the handheld Glidecam or do you have the bodypod? Or do you have the smooth operator arm?

  • None of the above, I have the Professional Series V-8 which is a full body vest arm and gimble with monitor. It is a $4000.00 Steadicam... So, Once again, how do you perform critical focus (even with a focus puller) while operating a Stedicam? That is the question.

  • focus puller assistant?

  • what did u do for those color swipe transitions.

  • Artbeats Film Cluter V1

  • true indeed, good vid, i have the letus35, alot of light loss.

  • Hi there, this is a really nice piece.

Can you possibly give me some tips on what settings you've used to export the .flv files? eg. 1 or 2 pass CBR or VBR? bitrate? keyframes and such.

I'm using Sorenson Squeeze and still having a bit of trouble.

    thanks a lot.

  • Love the videos and the music! How did you hack the image to flip it? And whose music is it?

  • Jon Brion

  • like ur video mate!i got dvxb i am thinkin about getting a m2 adapter!but dunt knw which one to choose i am on low budget there was indie bundle and complete bundle what u reckon which one i go for i dnt have much knowldge about 35mm !thanks

  • Indie Bundle, That is pretty much all you need... and a some good glass meaning Lenses... Nikon is pretty much the lens of choice these days however, if your a Canon fan get some Canon glass. Fast lenses are the key, you loose alot of light with the M2.

  • No, This is Standard Definition Video.

  • dude...this video ROCKS!

i love it! so spontanious, and full of life!

wish i could get a picture quality like that!

    take care :]

  • image looks soft, is that becuase of youtube degrades your footage, or does the 35mm adaptor do that to the footage ?

  • It looks like a commercial!

  • is this a feature found only on the dvx100b.? i got the 100a.

  • What feature are you refering to?

  • ah jon brion! ya!!!

  • O0HDANG, This is a MUST... Join DVXUSER com the folks over there will take you right in. There is so many questions that can be answered on that forum. You'll be fine with just the camera and Final Cut... 24P, Framing, and decent Color Correction, hell yea, you'll be totaly amazed at what your going to be capable of. I'm so syched for ya... Get the camera you won't regret it.

  • ok thanks, ill definetly check it all out.

  • nice. Ima get me one of these. How much did you buy this cam for?

  • I paid $3000.00 for the DVX100b (Camera), $1200.00 for the Redrock M2 35mm Lens Adapter and $389.00 for the Nikon 50mm F1.4 35mm Lens. Oh... and $500.00 for the Artbeats Film Cluter V1. and $700.00 for Magic Bullet 2.0

I wish I could have got this look with just a the DVX100b... however, it got me about half way there...

  • dang, i dont have thaaattt much money to blow. I found a seller of the DVX for 2,000 and i think im gonna get it. By any chance, do you have any raw footage of just using the dvx100b. The quality of this peice was so good. I was hoping that the dvx 100b could produce that itself but i guess not. Do you think i would get a decent final product with just the camera and final cut pro. Does magic Bullet and Film Cluter come with filters to make it more like film or somthing?

  • O0HDANG,

The 24P gets you pretty close, There is so much you can do with just the camera. Not that your seeing any unbelieveable framing in any my videos however, I highly recommend somehow getting a hold of Hollywood Camera Work the Course, you can learn so much from those courses.

  • With the flip hack, isn't the image still backwards left and right?

  • There is a setting in the DVX100b that will change the mirror image from right to left and left to right. This way it is a perfect flip.

    Hope this helps...

  • Yup, found it... gawd, to think I've been doing all my recordings with the left and right flipped this whole time!!!

  • how would i do that, i have premiere, vegas, and after effects? is it possible with those?

  • You should be able to export to an .flv file with each one of those programs.

  • what format did you compress with?? please tell me, i have horrible quality when i upload!

  • The only way to acheive this quality is to export your video or encode your video as a Flash File .flv file that is. By doing this you eliminate the a step in regards to the recompressing that youtube does, or atleast this is what I'm told.

    Thanks for the interest,

    Len

  • -sorry for the above double posting- you tube must be lagging a bit for me.

  • Man pls tell me EXACTLY how you made those flash and burns effects ! They are superb.

    10x a lot

  • Ok man please tell me EXACTLY how you made those flash and burns effects ! They are gorgeous.

    10x

  • how did u flip the image?

  • I did the DVX100b/HVX200 Flip Hack. You take the small cover off the hinge, drill a hole and press the flip button down with a small piece of wire or small pin. I used a small piece of coax cable. I used the center copper conductor.

    Thanks for the interest,

    Len
