  • I don't think Bmore is that bad, i love the song though!

  • was in bmore for half an year as an exchange student at bpi, great time :)

  • why are you talking about guitar players while one of the greatest songwriters of the latter half of the 20th century plays one of his best songs?Who gives a shit who's playing guitar?

  • ditto singboy54...wow

  • what a haunting piece of music. This song is so relevant to the times we face now...

  • Beautiful song. Most of the country is Baltimore now.

  • love that piano figure righta befor the chorus it's been a long time since i've heard it i guess the days of people making music like this are over

  • ohh Pokemon

  • i know it's probably been mentioned here a bunch of times, but this totally should have been used in the wire

  • This song should've been used in the wire. And sitedezynz....words fail me..

  • @jfishcake Leave where? I don't live in your poverty stricken, racist dung hole.

  • @sitedezynz always be proud of where you're from. sorry not everyone is born in rich white neighborhoods with silver spoons in their mouths. grow up and stop putting down other people's homes. it's just plain rude.

  • uno dei miei pezzi preferiti di Randy

  • One of his best!

  • He chose Baltimore as the title song because it fit the lyric rhythm he needed. It wasn't personal, but it is kind of amusing.

  • i live in south baltimore and every word of this song true. 7/13/2011 and you what

randy cut this track in 1977. genius is sometimes an over used word , but for this

track and lp it fits like a glove . thank you glen frey and randy , peace and love baby.

  • baltimore baby, born nd raised. southside.

  • 28000 veiws ? i think most of them are mine. good tune

  • well i went downey oshun with a cupple o' buds and we where drinkin some natty boes and den we herd dis song come on the radio and we where all cheerin an stuff, it was a great moment. i love bawmor and it will always be my home.

DEM O'S PLAYED A GOOD GAME DIS SEASON, AYE?

  • This is BALTIMORE! I know. I've been here all my life!

  • I'm surprised this was not the theme song for the TV series, "The Wire." It would have been a perfect fit since the show was about Baltimore and how it was decaying and dying.

At least Randy got his claws into WEEDS. He made his buck-twenty-five. Love RN!

  • Randy Newman is a genius, hands down.

  • Continues to be one of my absolute favorites. You can't deny that musical talent came together on this gem. Shut the doors and windows and TURN IT UP! This is by far Newman's best, but Frey ices the "cake" with the guitar licks on this one.

  • Finally, somebody told the truth!!

  • Bawlmer, my Bawlmer!

  • Go, Randy! Oscars and Toy Story 3! Baltimore is still my fav. Happy to find YOU here!

  • Randy Newman is the MAN! A lot of people don't understand the sentiments and often dark humor in his lyrics....this song is just plain serious.

    He'll never be a Top 40 hitmaker...but , who cares...Short People was a fluke.

He was never trying to be the next Phil Collins....who puts songs that could be included in a Hallmark greeting card. If you haven't heard "Political Science"

from Mr.Newman yet...give that one a try....just try not to take the lyrics TOO seriously.

  • i live in baltimore and randy got it right , randy is a genius one of a kind . and yes the city is dying and THEY dont know why maybe they never will .

  • I was in high school in Baltimore when this song came out. I remember everyone had a serious love/hate attitude about it. It definitely dissed our home town, but it is so damned good it's hard not to like this song.

  • @raelraven2 And it's true too! Baltimore is dying. We just lost another 30,000 people over the last 10 years. I love the city, but the last one out, turn out the light.

  • Thanks for this, it is brilliant..but can anyone post Kathleen (Catholicism Made Easier) ?

  • The great thing about good music is as the Spanish say "interpreta- interpretation" this has a different feel from the Nina Simone version but just as beautifully done ......I love Y- T for this very purpose to get a variety of music from a variety of performers !....respect for posting !!

  • One of my all time favorite songs. Glenn Frey played guitar on this one, but almost every Eagle (Henley, Schmit, Walsh, contributed to the album, as well as heavy-hitter sessionists Voorman, Keltner, Marotta, Weeks, etc. Friggin' masterpiece!

  • Fantastic... Best American Autor and Singer !

  • the beat up seagull found his way on youtube and disliked this video.

  • Whats the hip hop version to this song called?

  • @mattyjay86 Freedom Ain't Free by Brother Ali? It samples the Nina Simone version.

  • ?... was'nt Nina Simone the writer of this track?

  • @410cryptic No, Randy Newman did the original. I prefer Nina Simone's though, they way she says the word 'Baltimore' breaks my heart.

  • @410cryptic

No, Randy Newman wrote it and Nina Simone covered it. Like many of his great songs other artists covered them.

  • Definitely one of my favorite songs.

  • beautiful.

  • beautiful song

  • ONE OF MY FAVE RN SONGS...

  • Little bit creepy tune, yet very soothing at the same time. I like.

  • Nina Simone's version is much better.

  • simply.the greatest singer/songwriter of this, or any other generation.

  • one of RN's best- I can't hear it without crying-

    many thanks for posting-

  • Just as beautiful and depressing as the city itself. Left there two decades ago...

  • @divinerebel

well obviously you havent been there in awhile cause it has improved quite a lot in the past 10 years.

  • Weird but very cool little Randy Newman tune.

  • masterclass singer, songwriter end of story.

  • I think thats Joe Walsh on guitar .

  • @MrSuperTechmaster he plays guitar on the other songs on the album little criminals, he does not play the guitar on this one

  • @kikimalikiable try glenn frey...

  • @fantasybballnut wat u mean? im all confused

  • @MrSuperTechmaster Actually Glenn Frey my friend. Tasty, right?

  • @MrSuperTechmaster

    Randy Newman at his best.

  • @MrSuperTechmaster -No.....it's Glenn Frye

  • Once the armpit of the USA Now a Jewel in Marylands Crown!!

  • .....one of my favourite songs ever.......it just seems to trascend music in some timeless void of the here and now......

  • Went to school there and classmate and I decided that he had the city down perfect.

I still love Baltimore, and I am from CO.

  • one of my fav song

  • great song, great singer !!

    thx for posting !

  • Who's the guy on guitar.

  • glenn frey

  • Wow.

  • @kikimalikiable Yep, there is one Frey guitar for you. Walsh plays just another way and style. Both great players, with passion. Funny thing though, the song ends a lot faster than when it starts..................the Eagles lost their rythm somehow. You can measure it. On the other hand, it does not influence the song.

  • Thank you for putting this up!

Beautiful song! Randy Newman is a genius.

  • @GoodKingJohn Agreed, 100%. Thanks for post.

  • @GoodKingJohn hatin on my city

  • @GoodKingJohn truth told.
