The last year for MH-53 operational aircraft in the DOD inventory slipped from 2007 to 2009 with the latest retirement date of 2014 provided by Headquarters Air Force Special Operations Command Plans, Programs and Policy Directorate on 17 April 2002, .
I was a crew chief on these babies...yes, they really did have 40 years of service on those airframes. My bird had over 12,000 flight hours by itself.
@ 5:01. "Guess where we're going?" "Baghdad!!"

How ironic! White hot on the Flir for the last flight. Ghostly looking. Isn't it?

At one point I was hoping to fly the MH-53 for the Air Force.

@zombiehuntereky That was the case on paper, but we retired the last one in 2008.

Sounds like the Gunship wasn't on the mission frequency. No audio from the Paves. Otherwise a textbook infil/exfil. Iraq was fun!

Think the Marines use the CH-53 Super Stalion.

Those airframes really had 40 years on them? Don't the marines have some or am I wrong?

@LoboCanada The Marines have CH-53Ds and CH-53Es but no MHs. The Navy has MH-53Es. The AF was the only to fly the Pave Low.
