  • his belt doesnt have enough space for the stripes anymore...thats badass...and very good sweep

  • Take off your ring while rolling!

  • @NebojsaGrbic1990 why? its never once harmed me or someone else. And the Professor and I are NOT rolling.

  • The Judo hold is called Muni gatame. The escape is the basic escape you learn for it. There are other to include an ending with a san kaku (triangle hold) or an arm bar.

  • cant the guy arm triangle you from there?

  • pedro sauer is a sneaky snake. i love this.

  • Blue Belt? Is this an older video?

  • This guy's got smoothness like no other

  • im so lucky to be a pedro Sauer student

  • dont think this will work in no gi

  • @josh1212121 It definitely works but the setup and hand position from the bottom is different i get it all the time but you have set it up perfect and the timing has to be right, it is more easily countered in no-gi though for sure.

  • this isn't a harpoon sweep? or maybe theirs 2 harpoon sweeps, I like the harpoon sweep from spider guard, with the de le riva loop. check it out, sick sweep with omoplata possibility

  • @carlsongracieteam As you know, there are several names floating around the jiu jitsu world. One teacher will call something one thing and another person will call it another. Typically, none of the names in BJJ had 'specific names' (usually the older Gracie's would just say "do the sweep from cross side and grab the belt and arch ...." quite a mouthful. I know of the other sweep you are talking about its just one of of those things in JJ. Call it whatever you want really.

  • @Submissions101 yes of course, I never had a name for this basic sweep/escape, the name just threw me off. you are fortunate to train with professor sauer, he is one of the best instructors and one of the premier red & black belts in the entire world. I remember when the ibjjf honored him.

  • @Submissions101 There's two theories. One is, Give every little detail and position a name so the student can "index" everything. The other theory is, don't name anything if you can help it so that there are no labels, or barriers and therefore no limitations. It's the difference between Eddie Bravo and Rorion Gracie. They both have their advantages.

  • What a great and easy move.

  • Now, I was under the impression that this was a reversal and not a sweep. Difference being that there are no points awarded for reversals and 2 appointed for sweeps in comp.

  • Ari, I thought you were a purple belt, or is that just 10th planet?

  • This is an ok sweep; it is very easy to counter, all you need to do is post with the one hand that is already sticking out and if they really go for it you can post and transition into mount very easily.

But I havent seen this done in my school in a bit, so I will try it next time to see if I can get away with it.

  • how old is this clip?

  • Dangit, another move i can't use in high school wrestling because it utilizes the gi...

  • @IrishSpite That's why BJJ and wrestling are different sports. Look up wrestling technique videos if you want something to use in high school wrestling

  • It's an effective sweep when the top guy gets distracted by trying to attack your top arm as it is in a vulnerable position. You don't put your arm there to go for the sweep but if your arm happens to be there your options are limited but this sweep is a good one.

  • I fail to see how this would be effective.

  • @Kilroytheknifesnob To get a dominent possistion on your oppenent.

  • @RUSSKISAMBIST wow-your a genius: lol

  • do you get points for this sweep in jiu jitsu, or does the sweep have to come from a guard posistion?

  • lol just saying that wasnt very instructional, but i dont think it was intended to be a video. i'd like to see a more instructional video of that sweep. especially becasue it seems like it may be useful in a wrestling sense.

  • @frkcrashtest That is correct! This was just a promo video. there is an actual video of Professor teaching this. This is a legit sweep and MANY BJJ teachers show this to their students. I've seen this sweep pulled off in comps all the time.

  • @frkcrashtest that is the thing my friend it is all about position understanding and angles you can learn that through lots of ground work. It does not matter if it is from wrestling, sambo, Judo, catch, and Jui-Jitsu. Thing that is frustrating at times is when some good Grappling people put down a good ground person just so they can make money on them. Moves are easy to learn and that is something you need to understand and learn, ground work is done learning through time on the mat.

  • can u guys post more graplling vids cuz i can't seem to apply the moves. well with a partner, i can do it with out him fighting back but when in the real thing, i can't seem to apply it. thanks.

  • @paolo123495 Focus on technique more. Or maybe you aren't putting enough strength into it. I know I can scissor sweep people easy if it's a drill and I've done it once at full speed, in my case I just wasn't putting my hands and leg in the right place.

  • @AnAverageSportsFan maybe its just because i'm smaller than average. and i'm only learning from friends and submissions 101 and so i dont get to practice that much but thnks man.

  • @paolo123495 Size in BJJ doesn't really matter, IF you know what you are doing. I'm one of the smallest at the GB school I go to and have to roll with people who weigh over 250lbs, I'm 175, and range from white to black belts and I've swept all of them including our 3 stripe purple belt instructor and our professor who is a 2nd degree black belt and weighs about 240.

I'd say that it's the not learning in an actual school and having a professor correct you when you do something wrong.

  • @AnAverageSportsFan I'm first a Judoka, then mma practictioner. I learned this reversal to the Yokoshiho gatame (I hope thats the right name), and it works great vs all weights. My friend who trained in a different dojo is my top sparring partner and hes about 6'2" 277lb. I'm same height, but 145lb. And yes, I was able to sweep him multiple times with this.

MAKE SURE TO BRIDGE WITH YOUR BACK NOT NECK. Wrestlers love to do neck bridges, but against that weight I would've been hospitalized.

  • @AnAverageSportsFan size and strength can often be the determining factor in who wins, however smaller guys tend to be more technical. but when it comes down to it, when two guys of equal skill roll, the bigger, stronger grappler will usually win

  • thats judo. -_-

  • @MCSKITTLESTV yes , judo is the mother art of bjj.

  • @Mr007batman and shorinji kan jiu jitsu is the mother art of judo

  • the guy didn't even bother to post his arm or head this move only works when both arms are committed to holding u down, that being said this move does work

  • In Spain, Portugal and Latin America (Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking), the term professor (profesor / professor) is used for any one who teaches at a school, institute, technical school, vocational school, college, or university, regardless of the level of the subject matter taught or the level or ages of the students.

  • isn't the guy on the bottom putting himself right into an arm-triangle choke position though?

  • @mixmasternut nope, the guy that would do the arm triangle choke (Ari), has the rest of his body on the wrong side of pedro. look up an arm triangle and watch what side the feet are on.

  • I do that already, but I got some details from the video. Thanks.

Wouldn`t that be a reversal instead of a sweep?

  • I am always amazed at how he got him off so easy, when I train with my brother (he weighs a few more stone than me) even if my technique is good I struggle hard to get him off. Would those stones make some difference?

    Thanks.

  • cool but it looks really hard to do with gi-less, always different way to put your hand positioning. thanks for the upload

  • Wow so effortlessly. lucky shits. bless all of you guys man!

  • mmm and if he does knee on belly then arm triangle?

  • Check out that red and black belt people.

  • Ari are you living in Idaho? I really do need to get into Keiths program.

  • does he have a Phd?

  • @r1a9y doubt it. but 3rd degree black belts and up get the title 'professor' if i'm not mistaken.

  • @unsupa thanks.

  • i find myself in that position a lot and that sweep looks pretty solid. think im gonna try that next time.

  • Was this from the July seminar at Fiedler's? such an amazing seminar. over 50 heads.

  • This is one of my favorite moves.

  • sick move, very slow and technical my type of move.

  • why do they like being called professor?

  • @HordeFTW111 He is the only one i have found to call himself professor... its kinda weird

  • @SlugDropsonheads Technically, all Black Belts in BJJ are supposed to be called "Professor." It's a title of respect, and is very common in BJJ Schools.

  • @TheDuroflex that's a very weird thing to call black belts...

  • @SlugDropsonheads It's better than saying "Hey, Black Belt." Also, a Phd. is called "Doctor." Saying "Professor" is just acknowledging all their skill and knowledge and the fact that they are teachers, or "Professors." Professor just means teacher or instructor.

  • @TheDuroflex Yeah but professor has a connotation which is why i said its weird... I can understand giving them a name to do with that but... Professor?

  • @SlugDropsonheads its not weird, its showing respect.

  • @TerribleOne718 no its showing something else because professor has nothing do to with this...

  • @SlugDropsonheads A Professor is another way of saying instructor, or teacher...just a higher rank. It is a sign of Respect because you wont address your Professor as "teach" "or "yo" or "dude" and it has EVERYTHING to do with this because he is instructing a BJJ class...a learning environment.

  • @TerribleOne718 I address my teachers as sir... but i wouldn't address a soccer teacher as professor... Or a football coach as professor... Basically what im getting at is professor has a certain connotation... But i get what you mean... I just think it takes away from the prestige that is given to University professors...

  • @SlugDropsonheads i see where you are coming from, since "Professor" is a title thats given to someone who has achieved a high rank (PHD). you cant forget tho that it takes years and years of hard training to earn a Blackbelt so i think thats the reason why that title is given, because in their own right they have achieved the highest rank amongst their peers. but i see where you are coming from and to each their own. thanks for responding in a mature fashion.

  • @TerribleOne718 I agree with you, but I would like to point out that someone with a Bachelor's or Master's Degree can also be called a Professor. Normally Phd's are referred to as Doctors. Really, I think the Professor title in BJJ is to give respect to the fact that most Black Belts in BJJ spend 10+ years attaining the rank of 1st Dan, especially compared to some of the more commercialized Martial Arts.

  • @TheDuroflex ya you're right , People with PHD's are called Doctors, thank you for pointing out my ignorance to the world, lol jk

  • @TerribleOne718 Lol, I've got to be good at something, right?

  • @SlugDropsonheads I doubt any black belt would complain if you called them "sir." I do see where you're coming from. You just have to understand this is something the Brazilians have been doing since the beginning of BJJ. It's traditional.

  • @TheDuroflex Cool, Thanks

  • @HordeFTW111

It's a title you receive after reaching a certain level.

  • @HordeFTW111 Because they like to profess.

  • @HordeFTW111 Its basically the equivelent of calling someone a "master" or "sensei." At my Judo school I call my instructor "coach" and at other Judo schools they might call there instructor "sensei."

  • love it
