its just too bad the marin rails got abandoned for 20 yrs. northwestern pacific had a yard in tiburon. nwp GP9's used to run past my neighborhood. they brought the track back to life, but they just run a grain local from petaluma to schelville with like 5 cars and an ugly genset, and they only run like twice every day except for weekends. its rly hard 2 catch here where i live. that ain't good enough 4 me. i know have a good reason, but i would just like it if NWP kept running here.
Amazing video. I grew up overlooking the Bayshore yard on the east side in those long wartime housing apartments you see in the video nestled against the hillside. You could hear the switchers, freights and other steamers all night long. The "crashing" sound of couplers during switching carried for miles. Fond memoriesof a time long gone.
@panhandle55 "Crashing"? Make that exploding lol. I was near the yard where i live and it sounded like a cannon blast when they coupled two strings of cars together.
Great Peninsula steam action! Love all of those MT's with the skyline casings. I assume the first film clips were from Coastline (looks like Santa Margarita in the opening scene?). Where is the closing footage from with the SP 3706 and the fairly long bridge? Somewhere in the CA central valley?
NSHammerhead , you just never know. Mr. Sage worked for the Central Railroad of New Jersey as a Big Boss and had a great hobby in rail fanning along with taking film. I'll be putting up other's in time. I have 8mm film he took too.
This is really nice, it's got both sound and a little music in the background, yet the music doesn't overide the sounds.
