I just rode in this car again recently. Its since had a new 434 Shafiroff motor installed in it. 450rwhp on motor! Thats before the 300 shot of nitrous. This car MOVES!
@Justinfloogie I just went on the shafiroff web site and there is no 434 cid with 450 rwhp the one thay have is 595 hp so it would make around 540 rwhp and if you hit it with a 300 shot it would blow sky high before to long so watch out spending over 9 grand for a motor i would want it to last.1-800-295-7142 is there phone #.Ive been doen this for about 28 years and i wouldnt hit a motor i paid over 9 grand for with a 300 shot maybe if it was a bigblock.Im not trying to be a smartass.
@SOUTHERNANDPROUD1861 i own the car and all i got from vinnie at shafiroff was the short block. used my heads, intake, & throttlebody. by the way when a motor makes 595 at the flywheel as advertised it's gonna make 480-495rwhp taking into consideration the 18-20% loss through the 700R4 and the rest of the drivetrain. i had the motor built to handle a 300 shot and vinnie knows just as well as i do that if the motor is tuned right for the spray longevity will never be an issue.
me and my dad owned a 88 irock and we had a 94 LT1 bored dome tops bigger valves 850 cfm demon everything you could do to one it was done basically we didn't cut any corners on anything and it had the T56 6 speed also with 4.11 Richmond gears and it sounded identical to this car it dyno ed at 430 on engine dyno but that was before we ran it hot 3 times because the LT1 has hoses that run off the back of the head to the intake on the injected motor and dint have them run the right way on the carb

I got 2 1/2 inch y pipe w/ high flow cat and a flowmaster 80 series single in dual out and it costs me $600 out the door with labor and all parts. It was pretty expensive. If I were u jus go with 1 big single flowmaster since there really is no big gain in power or sound putting 2 mufflers on the car. A flowmaster won't restrict nething but either get a hi flow cat or gut the fucker. The cat will restrict

BUT I do have all the body work done and I prefer my Black cherry to your black primer, I hate those rear spoilers and finaly at first I loved that hood in fact I still do but..... well we'll see, if I need the space.......

@drizzetsrevenge Exactly! Base stock that can put out major power. Besides, supercharged muscle cars (IMO) sounds better then sticking turbos on them. You can always put a bigger engine in it, and keep similar hook ups as well. beautiful
@Vettes4lyfe True! A S/C just produces a better tone on a Carb'd V8. However, on a SBC LS or LT engine, I just seem to love the screaming sound of twin turbo's. A big V8 produces enough exhaust pressure to spool 2 turbos almost instantaneously.
@drizzetsrevenge Hell ya. I got an 88 T/A with the 350 in it L98 engine, waiting to get a 383 put in. It got Flowmasters, sounds amazing. the 80's stock 3.8L turbo Firebird was actually super fast. 0-60 in 4.7 seconds. That's pretty good time for a car over 20 years old.
I take it the exhaust looks nothing like the factory original either. I'm Australian, so I don't get to see these very often, but realised that you can only service one with a hoist. How the left bank of the exhaust goes to the cat, the right bank comes around the front of the sump and joins. Then goes to the back, splits in 2, goes over the diff, into a large muffler, then goes out the back wia two small resonators. Rip the whole lot out and start again
I could be completely wrong but... I dont see it running 6.55 in the 1/8th or 10.2 in the quarter... just my 2 cents... It just doesnt sound like a 434 but computer speakers mess you up some times

that looks more of a 1986 to me. only the 86 models of Firebirds and camaros had the rear light on the hatch door. Unless the hatch itself if from an 86 and the car is an 88
possibly yeah. but just b/c they say it's a GTA don't mean it is either. there were suttle differences between the types of firebirds that were for appearence like the hood/spoiler/wheels/badges. which all could be added on for the GTA look replica. and he doesnt have the original rims on it, since GTA had the honeycomb wheels. but in all aspects you don't really know.
I think its a great car, but to be honest, I think it should be running 10.2 @ 132 on motor alone..... shouldn't need Nitrous to achieve that. Perhaps something not running right ?

did you replace the rear hatch window? '86 was the only year for the firbird/camaro/vette high mounted center brake light. looks great though, identical to mine. except mine is blacked out, check out my burnout vid
ok let sget some things straight right now, thats is NOT a GTA and anyone who thinks that it is. has just had the golden wool pulled over thier eyes. The GTA DOES NOT HAVE FENDER VENTS!!! not to mention all the Fbody V-8's with a 5 speed manual were 5.0's yeah the 305 got the stick because the 5.7/350 with TPI simply had too much torque so they backed it with a sluggy worthless auto. and any of us who swapped to a stick, found out the expensive way why they used the auto to begin with.

hey cement head....go back and read all the posts!! i pulled the GTA fenders and rear hatch off of the car when i first got it. the rear hatch was destroyed by the previous owner and the GTA fenders needed some minor work. i just haven't put them back on yet. and by the way...it is an automatic. if you cement heads go back and read ALL the posts you'll see that i took the front fenders of to have them fixed. as for the hole in the front bumper...it's there!!!! the whole tailight panel is of my 86 TA which was blue. the previous owner let the car go to hell so everything he destroyed came off...fenders, rear hatch, and tailight panel. you dickheads can say whatever you want but the car is still a GTA!!!!
Get a Carbon Fiber Piece, and cover the Whole Tail lights Accept for one or Two Singal Circle's Kind of like an Farrari F-40. IT would Look Soo Very Shhweet on this car. but only with Factory Tail Lamps.
the exhaust on it back then was a set of MAC intermediate 1 5/8 length headers and the matching y-pipe. it now has a set of hooker super comp 1 3/4 long tubes with a custom 3 inch y pipe to a 4 inch collector. sound even better now. i'm just waiting for my buddy to come back to ny this summer and shoot some more video of the car. this time we will have 1/4 mile video and some street racing footage.
thanks fo the comments guys. the 385 is gone and it now has a FAST XFI powered shafiroff 434 with brodix m2 track 1's and a miniram with a VERY mild custom billet cam. with the small cam and intake it made 472hp and 502lb/ft on motor and 662hp and 652lb/ft on the spray to the wheels. car was tuned at jim ford's dyno service in fulton,ny by hal cericola and steve mosca. car ran an 11.5 at 117mph on motor and a 10.6 at 130mph on spray. if it wasn't for the trans problem it would have run faster.
if headers are ok, is it ok not to replace them if your planning on getting new exhaust? my silencer is broken, i could just get a new muffler but my pipes have been welded too many times i want stainless steel pipes, but just muffler and pipe - unless it is wise to replace headers too when changing exhaust? help plz!

If that is the original hatch to the car then it isnt a 88... Its an 86. 1986 was the ONLY year with that brake light on the hatch like that.

I could be completely wrong but... I dont see it running 6.55 in the 1/8th or 10.2 in the quarter... just my 2 cents... It just doesnt sound like a 434 but computer speakers mess you up some times

that looks more of a 1986 to me. only the 86 models of Firebirds and camaros had the rear light on the hatch door. Unless the hatch itself if from an 86 and the car is an 88

possibly yeah. but just b/c they say it's a GTA don't mean it is either. there were suttle differences between the types of firebirds that were for appearence like the hood/spoiler/wheels/badges. which all could be added on for the GTA look replica. and he doesnt have the original rims on it, since GTA had the honeycomb wheels. but in all aspects you don't really know.

I think its a great car, but to be honest, I think it should be running 10.2 @ 132 on motor alone..... shouldn't need Nitrous to achieve that. Perhaps something not running right ?

IT IS STILL A GTA. Case in point, if you have a 2004 Pontiac GTO, but you put a Holden Monaro front bumper on it, its still a GTO, and not a Holden Monaro. Nice try though.

ok let sget some things straight right now, thats is NOT a GTA and anyone who thinks that it is. has just had the golden wool pulled over thier eyes. The GTA DOES NOT HAVE FENDER VENTS!!! not to mention all the Fbody V-8's with a 5 speed manual were 5.0's yeah the 305 got the stick because the 5.7/350 with TPI simply had too much torque so they backed it with a sluggy worthless auto. and any of us who swapped to a stick, found out the expensive way why they used the auto to begin with.

hey cement head....go back and read all the posts!! i pulled the GTA fenders and rear hatch off of the car when i first got it. the rear hatch was destroyed by the previous owner and the GTA fenders needed some minor work. i just haven't put them back on yet. and by the way...it is an automatic. DUMBASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you cement heads go back and read ALL the posts you'll see that i took the front fenders of to have them fixed. as for the hole in the front bumper...it's there!!!! the whole tailight panel is of my 86 TA which was blue. the previous owner let the car go to hell so everything he destroyed came off...fenders, rear hatch, and tailight panel. you dickheads can say whatever you want but the car is still a GTA!!!!

the exhaust on it back then was a set of MAC intermediate 1 5/8 length headers and the matching y-pipe. it now has a set of hooker super comp 1 3/4 long tubes with a custom 3 inch y pipe to a 4 inch collector. sound even better now. i'm just waiting for my buddy to come back to ny this summer and shoot some more video of the car. this time we will have 1/4 mile video and some street racing footage.

thanks fo the comments guys. the 385 is gone and it now has a FAST XFI powered shafiroff 434 with brodix m2 track 1's and a miniram with a VERY mild custom billet cam. with the small cam and intake it made 472hp and 502lb/ft on motor and 662hp and 652lb/ft on the spray to the wheels. car was tuned at jim ford's dyno service in fulton,ny by hal cericola and steve mosca. car ran an 11.5 at 117mph on motor and a 10.6 at 130mph on spray. if it wasn't for the trans problem it would have run faster.

Actually the 1989 Turbo Trans Am came with the 3.8 litre Turbo V6. The GTA came with the 5.0 or the 5.7 TPI engines.

if headers are ok, is it ok not to replace them if your planning on getting new exhaust? my silencer is broken, i could just get a new muffler but my pipes have been welded too many times i want stainless steel pipes, but just muffler and pipe - unless it is wise to replace headers too when changing exhaust? help plz!
