It's a little hard to explain since I'm unsure if it even has a term. But when released from a grab like that the player can chose whether he is released like that Pit was, on the ground; or in the air. The latter you fly upward after being released. Could've still been punished for it, but what occurred in this video wouldn't've happened.

you mean air release? dude all you have to do is keep pummeling to force a grab release as shown in this vid. An air release is simply not pummeling and they'll fly upwards. At that %, Pit basically has no control over which release occurs.

I see. Yeah it's odd Luigi trips a lot... must be something with his clumsiness character. I only play Ike and tend to trip a lot because I either pivot grab too much, or dashdance for mindgaming. And thanks.

What it is is for every character, every analog movement has a 1% chance to prat fall, except for Luigi. His all have a 2% chance.
