This is an art form, when you start using the rub on transfer and stuff like that it just becomes mixed media art. Nothing wrong with it at all, art is an expression just of ones self. Not all artwork has to be a Picasso.

@whitbyjet65 no, thats not true. I think i paint quite well, yet i love doing encaustic because of the texture. Just because its not the stereotypical paint/graphite/clay dosent mean its not art.

@placidelectric I didn't say it isn't art, I said it's for people who can't paint. He sticks butterflies onto the canvas. He hasn't painted them. Anyone can do it. As I said, it's art for people who can't paint.

@wazii6 no, nothing can go over encaustic, but i can't see why you couldn't make an acrylic underpainting

@wazii6 no you can't put acrylic paints over wax. you can put shellac the kind you find in a hardware store and some people add pearlized pigment to the shellac then light the shellac on fire to "burn it in."
