this is as good as depicts the same style of horror ( albeit visual ) as The War Of The Worlds did for the audial ~ I shall let you know as soon as my heart recovers from this snuff movie .
It's the juxtaposition of the gritty realism, in the same vein as the French film "Le Haine", with the gripping bizarre love triangle of Victor, Rick, and Ilsa in "Casablanca", that demands a repeat viewing of this piece.
At first i enjoyed the film, however, at the :37 sec i was slightly offended by the violence that you chose to add near the left side of the frame. I have been up for 3 days thinking about how the crew must have felt to witness this kind of act- hollywood or not- the realism was there and perception is reality. It takes me back to the Cow Sacrifice scene in Apocalypse now! I am drawing many parallels. I have been constantly asking myself .. is this kind of violence necessary to tell the story?
@wastedlives I think i may go on a hunger strike to protest the violence you have smattered all over this film. ... or maybe ... next time... you could have just closed the chute a little... I don't know... I don't have all the answers. I hope a starter log wasn't used to make this fire- that would be the last straw Coty!
waste, you make an excellent point. the studio is thinking of cutting the violent scene to only a second so it can be released on non-pay TV. Also, I assure you - no starter logs were used to make this fire. The assistant director assured me. Then again, he's a pathological liar, as all AD's are!
I have completely re-thought the entire nature of this film. I'm taken back to the fight scene in the Tokyo nightclub and perhaps will re-time the print so it's in black and white during the more violent moments. I thank you for bringing this to my attention - hopefully we have prevented a high school or post office rampage.
It makes me wish that the incredible Mr. Welles had done some sort of commentary. Not that it's necessary, but alas, you hardly ever get to hear that great voice these days!
It's true. And Welles, for the last part of his career could barely afford to film a couple burning logs. Since it was always "my way or the highway" with him, most of the money men told him to hit the road.
If you want to get a good insight into OW, try F For Fake -- low budget, but fascinating film.
I saw F For Fake, or at least, a slop print of it. It was hard to watch, as the budget kept impacting what would probably have been a brilliant film.
Welles was, I'm afraid to say, the last of that breed. It was always about the film - and his art. I'm not sure if I can think of anybody off hand who, these days, ever gets told to "hit the road".
This is hilarious!
