@Racture Correct. If you consider $80,000 to $90,000 a fortune, and I do, then it did cost a fortune. The company won't say what it actually costs, but I found someone familiar with models like this.
@PakaBubi Sorry it took so long to get back to you. The company won't say what the actual cost of the model was, but I have one source suggesting it is somewhere between $80,000 and $90,000.
Big piece of sardine carrier. Slow as molasses. What's great about it? Just another old and outdated airliner that is not capable of flying faster than the speed of sound. Great for the airlines, they make more money by putting more people on it - bad for passengers as it takes longer to board and is not faster than older planes. Junk.
@FreddyDrifter You aren't very bright. This plane is great for passengers. This is the most advanced plane in the world. This plane is made from carbon fiber. The air on board will be at higher humidity and higher pressure. This will make a much more comfortable flight. The plane is more fuel efficient which means lower ticket prices. They can't make faster planes. Faster planes are not allowed to fly over land and they cost too much in fuel that no one can afford to fly on them.
What I also want to know is how people would brace and where if there was an emergency. And I want to know where the owner would store it while not flying
@JediSithHalo32 I would suggest people hide under the beds in an emergency. As for storage, this is probably never going to be bought, just leased. So the real owner would have hangars for it between trips. Several similar airliners operate out of Switzerland as needed.
@JediSithHalo32 there are designated seats for takeoff and landing, which meet the required safety regulations. The cabin crew would instruct you to return to those seats if there is turbulence or an emergency. These aircraft can be parked anywhere, almost all airports offer long term parking or even hangarage. It depends how much you want to spend :-) This aircraft will cost a minimum $USD10,000 per day to insure and park. That's only when it's not flying- flying it costs more. A LOT more :-)
Nerver any american carrier will use that configuration for their planes... usually they are into to Greyhound Configuration.... eewww! This is the the reason the success of foreign airlines....
@Mustkill3 do you seriously think that this didn't hit them when they were making this airplane? lol
well what they did is they took some technology from B-2 bomber that kinda reduce the "shaking" from turbulence. i have no idea what its called but thats all i know.
@nathanfishing3000 In January 2009 "Aviation Week" (where I once worked as a reporter) said that Boeing was the only contender for the new Air Force One and was considering both the 787 and 747-8.
@kevini15 The interior work is done by a German company, as you noticed, but anyone can hire them to outfit an airliner. The model was shown at the National Business Aviation Association convention in Orlando.
@plutocuteguy I did ask. As I recall, the airplane would be about $270 million, but you'll need $60 million more to paint it and put in the interior. So...about $330 million.
Yeah, this is really cool and all, but I really like the idea of staterooms (see 0:19). I could possibly see a new, ultra-luxury commercial aircraft layout with real, private rooms with like convertible couches that turn into beds. The only concern would be safety (how to make sure people aren't getting ready to take over the airplane in their rooms).
@juki0h Oh, they know how to have fun with their money. They just don't tell us what they're doing. The King of the UAE has a private plane for himself larger then this. Most rich people buy yachts.
@DreamRaver25 Apparently the idea is that you fly to a country, park and live in the jet, bringing in people for meetings, making the airplane the base of operations for the trip.
@DreamRaver25 its not really intended that an individual owns one, although there is no problem with that. however, with my thoughts its mainly for large, wealthy, successful organization/businesses to travel to their clients around the world.
@hallnoats4ever The tiny TVs were LED screens that had a video feed for the display. Since that is how you might use them in flight, they were working.
@ponne951 In January 2009 Aviation Week reported that Boeing was the only contender for the new Air Force One and was considering both the 787 and 747-8. Couldn't find a more recent article for an update of that.
@cutedollyme The crew has separate toilets, and if needed, sleeping quarters in the forward ceiling. Also, a state room in the forward part of the airplane has a full bath with shower.
@ImUrtastyflava It's available anytime you want to pay for it. Many smaller aircraft can be equipped with luxury interiors, but may not have the width for a bed or shower. It would probably have to be airliner size if you want actual bedrooms, offices, and dining rooms. You can get the airplane for $270 million, but it will be unpainted with no interior. So it needs to go to a shop for an additional $30 million of interior work and exterior paint.
@altonmarsh The Boeing 737-700 is normally used in "Boeing Business Jet" VIP configuration and has room for an office, 2 bedrooms, shower, you name it. On the other end of the spectrum, Boeing is marketing this, as well as the new Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental (and there are already 8 people wealthy enough for the 747-8 variants!!!). The 747-8i will probably be the next Air Force One several years out, but 8 billionaires will soon have a bigger, newer plane than the President's pair of 747-200s!
@Redeagle52000 Thanks. I have written about the Boeing Business Jets for years, but I didn't realize they could have bedrooms and showers. I also didn't know there are eight 747-8 variants headed for billionaire owners, so I will check that out, along with the information on Air Force One. Thanks!
@altonmarsh Check out "Ride a Boeing Business Jet" (That's roughly the title...there are several versions of it and it is the Boeing demo version, used by Boeing executives as their own BBJ and also as a demonstrator)...this is a one-bedroom version. But, check out the shot of the bathroom closely ahead of the sitting room...he walks through the plane in flight...and there is a shower with a clear, rounded door in the corner that you have to be looking for. The AF1 742s have HUGE shower/baths.
@pornoslut There are dozens of airliners out there similar to this. Owners generally don't let you know if theirs is exactly like this. They want theirs to be unique in the world--and better than anyone else's.
who would like to spend their whole life living in that plane? i mean just look at it! Theres no kitchen and u can hardly find a pilot!
