The Klemperer Philharmonia recording of the beethoven 5th, along with his recording of "Fidelio" with John Vickers, are interpretations of Beethoven for the ages! The tempi are measured and stately, producing a dramatic quality unlike any other recordings of these works ever made. Subsequent recordings sound like Beethoven in a hurry. Klemperer's handling of the transition is a perfectly balanced blend of power and enlightenment.
Btw, I'm still hoping for someone to post Klempie's Pastorale with the Vienna Symphonic. It's such a marvelously eccentric, unforgettable interpretation.

A lot of people think he is too slow, but I think his tempo/i/tempos are perfect.
