  • Magic white? Is that just normal white? Or is it a special form of white?

  • It`s a thin base coat that is used for this method

    Jack

  • This video is just too amazing. This is so helpful for my daughter's exhibit.

  • waaww it's soo easy and buttey I love it ..

    Hee!Hee!^,.,^

  • Thank you so much the for your dedication. "O thou servant of the One true God! In this universal dispensation man’s wondrous craftsmanship is reckoned as worship of the Resplendent Beauty. Consider what a bounty and blessing it is that craftsmanship is regarded as worship. In former times, it was believed that such skills were tantamount to ignorance, if not a misfortune, hindering man from drawing nigh unto God." ~ 'Abdu'l-Baha

  • So beautiful..

  • @AretyRocks Where/how in the heck would I have found that? And there have been how many years SINCE youtube changed the policy to allow the upload of a 15 minute clip? Considering this was pre-recorded, I'm sure it doesn't take a year and a half to fix.

  • This video is Great!

  • I know this is painting vid but what is the piece of music in the intro

  • It is my Band Arety an original tune we recorded years ago called Sweet Memories. It is on the Arety Phila Rock band face book page

  • Great video Mr Kolber, very energetic and clear.

    Regards,

    Mont Marte Joe

  • @chickendippers1997 Magic white is a base to help ease the blending of paint , its the base that William Alexander used on his tv show before Bob Ross , Ross on the other hand used what is called Liquid white , its pretty much the same thing but a bit thicker than Alexanders version . You can make your own version by mixing Titanium white and linseed oil together .

  • @themusicmaker91 sure , but he would be PERFECT with a calm voice , no?

  • @chickendippers1997 agreed agreed haha... and maybe a hair cut.

  • у Боба Росса практически такая же картина. а этто копия, только цвета неба и воды чуть чуть другие...

  • Боб Росс и Билл Александр мои наставники. Вот почему они, кажется, близко к тому же стиле. (Я использовал Google Translator)

  • very nice!!

  • im just starting out, thanks for the introduction techniques quality

  • Great tips! Thank you!

  • @MaladaptiveCatalyst thank you ,i have never painted in my life and i would love to learn , thank you for the advice

  • what is this substance used at the very beginning and is called " magic white" ? can you name it in french please ?

  • Bill Alexander was my teacher and mentor.

  • Amazing work!!

  • What is the name color of the sky and the sea?

  • wow amazing video im definitely gonna have to try it when i get my paints back :-)

  • very nice panoramic view.

thx a lot for your tips

    you are the number 1.

  • Awesome tutorial

  • Well, I'm from Germany and I've got no idea what he means with "magic white". Is this a special kind of colur or something like that? Could anyone explain it to me? It would be really nice ^^'''

  • Not a hundred percent sure, but I believe it's a brand of gesso for priming to the canvas. A quick Google check could verify that, but I believe it's accurate.

  • Thanks very much! It's just great. I did this paint, and it was very easy with your instructions. Thanks again!

  • dear jack kobler, very nice painting!!! i wanted to learn from you but i am faraway from you [in india] thank you very much for teaching!! geetha padmakar

  • I'm speechless....you managed to do all that in under half an hour...i couldn't even do that in 10 hours....My hat is off to you my friend!

  • Great tips and excellent painting.

  • @tdartista48

I'm trying that wet on wet paint.

  • OMG amazing ....

  • A great video & painting Jack. Many thanks for posting it.

A comment, if I may. It appears you apply quite a bit more Magic White than many artists I've seen. Or is it just the glare from your studio lights? Perhaps you thin down your Magic White with thinners?

    Again, thank you so much.

    Best regards,

    Steve

  • Watch 4:55-5:35. WOW Can't wait to try this. :)

  • Out of curiosity, how does "Magic White" differ from Bob Ross's "Liquid White"?

  • Bob's "Liquid White" is sort of a rip off of "Magic White", but Magic White performs better in my opinion. They both serve the same purpose.

  • are you using like a fan brush on those big trees

  • thats wow!

  • Is there a video about how to take care of oil paint or is that neccesarry because I know it is with acrylics which is one reason why I'm an water color painter

  • bravo

  • lol u r my GOD ;)

  • i painted a door once and it took 2 hours! wow! this guy makes painting look easy! but where's the wolf?

  • damn i soo want to be good at painting...but i totally suck at it. can i learn getting good at it even if im total bad at painting?

  • Don't discourage yourself by thinking bad things. Work hard and you'll get better. Just don't worry about how bad you are, think about how good you'll be if you don't give up.

  • As a painter that is trying to go all the way to the old masters I want to say that the way you are painting will inspire a lot of people! Real artists will thank you for joining this passion! thanks for sharing!

  • Well, this technique has nothing to do with that of the old masters... but yes it could sure inspire people.

  • thank you for sharing your knowledge with us ! where can I find the magic white paint , I try couple places they dont have it

    can you tell us?

  • hobby lobby. It's also called Liquid White. Same stuff.

Look for the bob ross paints, they'll have it in that section for sure. This guy is painting in the bob ross style of painting (wet on wet) pioneered by Bill Alexander.

  • How do you find a 'Art manager'?

  • have you ever seen the frames the company Rocnkframes does? i got one thats great for my oil paintings of landscapes

  • simply amazing...wish I could meet him once...

  • This Excellent work

  • you great buddy...

  • Excellent work in a magic way

  • i want to be an artist, but i have none of the materials i need. or the teachings to paint well. and i dont want to be a starving artist. so i guess my question is how did you start off your career as an artist?

  • The first thing you want to do is invest in some of the tools. You don't have to spend a fortune to start off, just enough to get yourself familiarized and perhaps choose what you find works best for you.

And then practice. Practice, practice, practice. In your spare time, find some inspiration and relax.

As far as the payment goes, you can always try an artist manager who is responsible for getting your work noticed. But it's likely you'd need to go at it for a few years first.

  • thx for the advice.

  • he is brilliant....

  • BRAVVVOOOOOOO

  • Bob Ross läßt grüßen, sowohl vom Motiv als auch der Technik her. Macht aber trotzdem Spaß zuzuschauen. :)

  • Superb Artwork.

  • you do great work!

  • good work and thanks for the lesson

my question is ive always painted with using water paint but now ive use georgian oil painting but it doesnt seem to get dry it is been 2 days now that ive painted with it but the paint is still wet , im i doing something wrong ? please help

  • No. You can use a hairdryer to dry the paint. Or wait ...

  • youcan buy a fixative for oil paint its a spay paint which dries your oil paint in minutes

  • He is smaaart! The higlights is on the other side of the mountain!!! WOW!

  • thanks for the lovely lesson !

anyone who is thinking of taking up oil painting may also find the book "Oil Painting for Dummies" useful. it teaches what you need to know about oil paints, solvents, and pigments; brushes, palettes, and painting surfaces; and how to keep costs down at the art supply store

    selfservingbooks (.) com/dummies/Oil+Painting+for+Dummies/2149

    [replace (.) with .]

  • Excuse me Jack, how much would it cost to buy all the neccassry materials in order to start learning to oil paint? Where might i find the proper materials to purchase? Any particular brand name stores?

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!! You are sooo good!

  • i miss bob ross....

  • I miss Bob Ross too. Eventhough this guy is a good painter and possess similar techniques to Bob's, he doesn't have the same effect on me that Bob had. Bob had a way of speaking and describing things as he painted that just put me in a tranquil, almost sedated state but not in a boring way. His voice was so soothing and relaxing. If you had a stressful day watching Bob paint helped out a lot. I could watch him paint all day long and never get bored. So I feel you when you say that you miss him.

  • You are absolutely fabulous. All your explanations are very helpful especially for a beginner like me :-) who needs lot lot lot of tips :-))

Thank you so much, looking forward for learning more mor e More M O R E :-)

  • where could i buy an easel like that?

  • kimimaro

  • bellissimo davvero....caspita ma non sarà il cugino di gatto panceri???? ciao bi

  • its cool stuff like this as well as the late great Bob Ross...that inspired me... im now paintin cool landscapes... good stuff bud!!

  • what make of oils you using?

  • Seems so easy when its done by an expert LOL But I think I will try these techniques out. I should be able to manage something good.

  • Too bad PBS doesn't show this series in addition to the Joy Of Painting series (my alltime favorite show).

  • I enjoyed this video... but you need some more happy little clouds...

    8O)

  • this is an oil painting or gross painting lesson?? jajaja i'm just kidding. it's amazing

  • striaght burgher knowing how to paint.... thank god!!!! the unknown artistic city lives on!!!

  • These lessons are terrific! Jack makes it look so easy, I'm gonna have to give this one a try! More please :)

  • wow very professional thanks for the million dollars lesson

  • O_O amazing

  • You are sooo good!

Wonderful tutorial...thank you soo much for sharing !!

  • Wow thank you for posting. I'm taking a beginner's oil painting class, and this is sooo useful. I'm still trying to get the hang of some of the techniques and brushstrokes. Thank you! This helps incredibly.

  • WOW u r amazin, im a person who has never done oil painting before and just looking at u paint has motivated me..!!! thanx a lot..!!!

  • Its Bob Ross the teamster!

  • Just what i been looking for !!thx. bless you

  • I saw an oil canvas at a show that 'hoooked'. I'll try to explain, the oil came up off the canvas with depth, like little hooks, almost hersey kiss like... It was a scene of woods with little brook going through. Very, very nice effect. Do you know what that's called?

  • not in 10mnt.the video has been cut down for youtube or the full version is sold from the web site. but its great. while watching it seems pretty easy and the brushes are very important too mine are too hard they dont absorb the paint :(

  • oh yes i have the same problem. my strokes just break off and have white gaps... :(

  • WOW ur amazing to the fact u could come up with such amazing art in 9.35 minutes!!

  • man, need to get me the magical white.... he makes it look so easy =o i get lost though but still, very educational

  • super! great painting and great teaching!

  • i love it.thank you sir.you're my teacher now

  • magic white is not gesso. gesso is an acrylic primer coat and is water soluble.magic white is an oil painting product used in the alexander art/bob ross wet on wet oil painting technique.you can paint oils over dry gesso but you can not paint acrylic gesso over oil paint.

  • Sorry, but you've got that wrong. Gesso is a form of primer and can contain either acrylic or oil based medium. Because of it's fast drying time, acrylic gesso is much more common (if you're priming a canvas you want it to dry quick so you can start painting). However, "Magic White" seems to be a brand name oil based gesso, with the alexander art/bob ross methods of painting taking advantage of the slow drying times rather than counting it as a disadvantage.

Good idea, but it's still gesso :)

  • how does he think like that!? its amazing wish i could do that

  • where can i buy magic white here in the philippines??

  • magic white, also known as "Geso", can be found in most craft stores

  • nice ponytail.

  • So beautiful! Thanks for your lesson:)

  • he means liquad white

  • what does he mean by "magic white"?

  • Magic White is a product sold by Alexander Art. It's a thin white paint that is used to prepare your canvas for wet on wet style painting.

  • que maravilla

  • thats an amazing talent, it's also interesting to see hte way the setip it.. from the canvas to the papertowels to clean the tools.. im so jealous at his ability..this pushes me to take classes! awesome!

  • I don't like how they skiped alot makes it hard to follow

  • bob ross does mountains better

  • This isnt BOB ROSS!!!

  • Did anybody say it was?

  • Yes, this is Bob Ross with a pony tail.

  • No, this is Bill Alexander with a pony tail.

  • seriously fuck how good this guy is

  • sounds like a Philly accent.

  • heh..you picked on that too,eh? One of my interviewers is from Philly. She sounds EXACTLY like him. :)

  • he makes it look easy but for me i just started to paint (it's hard) i'm turning 17 in 16 days and on 21 nov i will show my painting right on my bday.I hope it will look good as the painting in the video.

  • William ''Bill'' Alexander my teacher, friend and mentor. :D hahahaha

Reminds me of a quote from School of Rock ''To play music you need to use your mind, head and brain''

  • Awesome work! It's so easy just to watch it. I wish I could do the same that easy but for some beginners like me, it's hard. For that type of work with pre-stretched canvas, are u still using gesso?

  • I'd b honored if I can b u'r student, always wanna b... well @ least wanna learn how 2 paint.

  • believe me this isn't that hard, if i knew how i'd send you some of my paintings (pics) but i haven't figured out how to use youtube yet but really it's not hard, i taught my 6 year old niece to do it, i have a picture of her painting.

  • Mayb not 4 an expert, but 4 me?????? ehhhmm..well..I can only wish @ this time..I do wanna learn tho' but there's no1 2 teach me, it's hard 2 find a painting teacher @ where I live.oh well..this time I guess I'll dream that I'm a painter I guess. just dream..

  • i suggest that you get the basic kit and don't be afraid to try it, it really is very simple. it almost paints itself. it is much harder if you try and use different paints as these are made really stiff (thick) that's the reason the snow on the mountains works so easily, the paint tends to stick in places so it breaks, don't give up try it.

  • Ok, so what kind of store do I have 2 go 2 get d materials/kit? is it like homestore or what? I tried d art stores down here, they have no oil canvas painting kit, oh can I order online? thanx again 4 d 411.

  • go to Hobby Lobby, they have everything you will need, you can get some really good deals on cheap canvas and they also run a 40% off coupon they have the basic kit. If there's not a store where you are go to them online and get the same things that you can in the store, give it a try I bet you'll be supprised.

  • thanx dude...I'll chk it out then.

  • your welcome, don't think that you need every brush they they have, for instance the blender brush I use it to dust off excess charcoal from my drawings, it just isn't necessary, you can do anything with four brushes at the most.

  • Thanx again dude, really apreciate d 411, mayb soon I'll b hanging my own paintings he..he..hopefully. D1 my mom got me (today..yay) come w/ 36 brushes, 24 tubes paint,easel set,instruction & more 4 $500, that's good 4 a starter rite?

  • i hate that it didnt show the white clouds does anybody know how he did the white clouds in the sky they cut out that part awsome painting a++++++

  • he put some white on fan brush and he keep moving where evere u want in the dky then he touch it by dry brush like he did the saky and lack in the first :)

  • after the sky is painted in you take the fan brush and dip it in a little magic while to thin it, then you just use the corner and make circles making sure to move the brush at all times, then take the 1" brush and blend the bottom of the clouds, believe me this is so simple and this guy really isn't that good.

  • for some reason... I du like him much as bob ross

  • I am sooo going to try this at home, it's amazing, you would think that it would take so much more time than this, but it's ready before you know it. I love it.

  • I wish the video was longer that way I could see the whole thing.

  • its WOW

  • mist is our seperator

  • These videos are so interesting to watch! I love this painting!

  • i can see a face when i look at the mountains

  • It is a great technique for painting landscapes. There is not much difference between this method and any other traditional method. Whether you're using the brushes like this to make foliage or you're using a small brush and daubing and painting glazes. There is no difference. You can paint what you see using this method or a traditional method. Art snobs like to make us think there is a difference. Rules of perspective and color still apply to this style. Glazes and details can still be applied.

  • Why not watch Bob Ross, he is the grand master.

  • amazing

  • I did it and it was easy. You are awesome. I didn't know how to do ANY of it when I started. Thanks!!

  • Mr. Kolber: You are amazing and I've only recently started oil painting. My painting has drastically improved watching your gift. You are my mentor.

    Frog

  • Very interesting demo. Thank you !

  • thanks for the show joe, from now on theres a lot more i know,im going to give it a go

  • really beautiful painting- got me interested in landscapes...

  • I havn't done any palet knife painting. I just love the feeling of the brush. Maybe I will have to try it sometime.

  • What a great painting. I enjoyed every minute of it! Thanks.

  • wow, luv the painting. Was it water he was applying to the canvas at the start?
