I never see those two at the same time in the same vid. I was beginning to think they were the same person in disguise. (Eddie would have been the disguise) :D
@JimmyPagerules1 I downloaded them, Rubber guard DVD's which there is like 2, one covers half guard and one covers rubber guard I think and then the All-stars DVD.
@AudienceKiller66 There are 3 mastering the rubber guard dvds. One covers half guard and butterfly guard, one covers rubber guard, and one covers spider web and a few other tings
@AudienceKiller66 well my internet warrior there is no reason to ramble about your stats, but if you have a amateur fight good luck! and dont get choked!
@walmartian555 you really think I care if you believe me or not? I've been doing kickboxing since I was 11 after I first joined karate dude. And now that I'm training with somebody other than wrestlers and army trained tools, I'm actually getting my ass handed to me in Jiu Jitsu. I train with some blue belts now.
im not really a big fan of 10th planet and edie bravos style....i think traditional bjj is still the best and definitely the best to learn the basics from
@PlanB198 I'm not a big fan of 10th planet either but if you master bjj, there are some things that eddie has incorporated into bjj that may be useful so I just try to keep an open mind....... But I agree with you that the basics is the key to a strong base
I just started training at a 10th Planet gym - I won't say which one - and there doesn't seem to be any kind of system for teaching total beginners. They're teaching me the electric chair before they've even really gone into the basics. Is this typical or am I just unlucky?
@antireyn most programs go in rotation...especially basic programs...like one week ull learn how to attack from the mount then the next week ull work on basic guard techniques...im not sur hot 10th planet does it cause i know its a differnt system but im pretty sure ull get the basics soon
@antireyn Most times in Bjj it is good to know stuff before hand but you can still start in anywhere and learn specific technique and you will not be lost, And the teaching goes back and forth so eventually you'll learn what everybody else knows. It's just not easy to start everybody in a "begining" point because they you have one guy learning one thing and ten guys learning something else and how the hell are you gonna do that. If there is something you dont understand speak up,
@antireyn where i train we have a beginner program that rotates. example: if you have 2 days of training per week one day will be a top position(working passes/finishes) then the second day will work the bottom of the same position(sweeps/finishes)....monday-inside your opponents guard...wednesday-beating your opponent from full guard.
Eddie's books are probly the best , but Mastering the X-Guard by Marcelo Garcia is pretty good , Jiu-Jitsue University by Saulo Ribiero is a really good one , Minotauro Nogueira has a few books worth reading . there's another one called 1001 Submissions that is very nice .
yea , i got it last year , The subs are top notch . i didn't expect it to be so fuckin big though . lol . u could hit someone upside the head with that thing and they would go straight out . lol . i also liked how it included pages on bouncing submissions , and how to incorporate the fence in bouncing . It's pretty good if u have the 70 bucks to spare for it .
What about the cross face? when the opponent establishes his underhooks or flat on his back, you can use your shoulder to put a tremendous amount of pressure on the jaw forcing him to release. This has happened to me a lot and don't use the lockdown as much now as a result! Although I am a beginner. Any good ways of defending this?
Just liek you deal with any crossface, you use frames to create space and dig for your own underhooks. I'll refer you to the Jaws of LIfe frame progression in Eddie's book.
Sorry what I meant is when you frame up/ use the jaws of life and establish your underhooks. Your chin and neck are exposed. Allowing the person on top to hug your head and drive their shoulder in to your jaw, creating an awful crossface. To reframe again effectively you would have to get rid of an underhook, by which time your guard is passed or you have taken a step back. This is just my experience of it.
The cross face is only effective if he has an underhook on the same side as your lockdown. If you frame and establish double underhooks, his crossface should no longer work. It should be easy enough to whip up and start your going for your sweeps.
yea if he has enough time to crossface you then you are just sitting in alf guard anyway. whip up and make things happen. as soon as you have the underhooks your good to go dont let him take a break and think about what your doing. most of the time if you can get the whip up fast enough you can get the guys back before he can overhook your arm
How I deal with the buttock-compressor from the bottom is as soon as I feel my opponent inching down to throw it on, I reach my hands behind his elbows as he is bear-hugging my thighs, and pull them towards my head. This takes a lot of pressure off the BC and often creates space to throw in an underhook and work on pulling your opponent back up towards your head so you can whip up.
Buttock Compressor: Just a name for a lock-down smash pass you have most likely experienced already or executed. If you are in top half-guard locked down, frame your way down until you can gable grip your arms around your opponent's thighs with your hands gable-gripped just below his ass. At this point, squeeze your arms and sprawl your legs back. If your opponent doesn't know how to deal with it, it will usually break their half-guard.
the neck crank is the worst for the twister pass imo. its ez to prevent tho. either lean back far so the guy cant reach your head or stick your arm strait out and touch your ear to your shoulder wile haveing your face in there hip. dont let them grab your arm tho its real bad if that hapens.
eddie's such a legend, i love it when he goes off on tangents about how the holds were named. he's such a good teacher and it seems he puts his whole life into bjj..... any chance of a 10th planet in ireland??
you can tell bravo is packed with energy, he cant stand still. quick question, when you start training with eddie do you have to start at a white belt level?
I don't know man. It seams like every time I get comfortable with this stuff they add a new element. double-bagger, rubix cubes, boas. Now he's on some "buttock compressor" stuff. Point is I can't imagine a traditional belt would translate (I'm pretty sure a bjj purple would have no clue how to defend whatever jerome basillio came up with this week.)
Meh does that really matter? There are so many belts just given away these days people don't even earn them....There are seriously white belts at my school that can tap out purple belts. There's something wrong when that happens. Plus 10th Planet Jiu JItsu you don't even wear a Gi so stop worrying about your belt and just practice and train . :)
GREAT comment man, yea if whitebelts tapout purplebelts on a regular basis somethings wrong. I work mostly stuff taught by Jorge Gurgel and Dustin Ware, I just love Eddie Bravo and 10th planet for the no-gi stuff. But I can never remember all the names he has for stuff, the electric chair, rubber guard, zombie, mission control. And buttock compressor?
i wanna see eddie compete in BJJ today with marcello garcia, jacare, and pablo popovitch.. I wonder what would happen
