Good Helicopter, but his crew must be high-level professional pilot. Becouse very hardly to fly (control helicopter) , search, track and shot AT missiles and gun... too hard for one average pilot.

What the army got during communist days was top-grade AA quality stuff (for instance, some helicopter that was active in the cold war days is still today the only trustworthy flying machine to transport people regularly to and from icy parts in Siberia).

@fescolfaro this is absolutely right... the military was a huge brain drain... putting the country's best minds in military labs, stifling creativity, providing no incentives for innovation, and pumping fortunes into industry while the rest of the world became service-based economies caused the fall of the USSR, nothing else... All truth, except that what you say about Lada... One thing about Lada is worthy of respect, and that's Niva. That vehicle is ugly, spends a lot of fuel, but you can drive it on any terrain and it outmatches any other terrain vehicles. I was stunned when I saw that rescue services use it on French Alps...

@MegaSalajka I beg to differ my man... A friend of mine researched a bit and bought one for off-roading, and it did drive anywhere, but required maintenance after every 3 or 4 trails... He literally had it 1 week at the shop for every 2 weeks driving (with a specialized mechanic). He was a huge fan for one year, f.i. he had a winch and was always towing people with "better" cars out, but after this year he had spent the same as what he paid for the thing again, and had to give it away...

This is the first time I hear that it requires maintenance in such ridiculous short time. But anything's possible... Since I have a Russian selling Russian car parts in commercial part of my property for ten years, I've heard a lot of stories (good-bad) from him and his customers. But I never heard anything like that for Lada Niva. Lets be frank, for every "research" you need more than one "specimen" to make judgment.

@MegaSalajka That's true, and my friend did push it to extremes while off-road. Nonetheless, he was in and out of the shop :) I remember also one time, it was raining buckets and we were driving along some road, he was playing with the car driving it to the side of the road where all the water was accumulating, goofing around saying "it drives on water" until it suddenly stopped. The carburetor got wet from the splashing, so it probably doesn't like water as well. Sturdy yes, reliable no. Cheers

@SCRTpilot The Ka-50 is more than your ordinary combat helicopter. It is actually a fighter with rotor blades in my opinion. In fact, it was created with the idea of it engaging helicopters and low flying fixed wing aircraft, apart from the usual ground attack role.

@mizukami999 pay attention to where it is mounted. It is mounted near the helicopters center of mass, so that it's recoil doesn't "turn" the helicopter.

The same gun is mounted on the Russian Mi-28 Havoc on a ordinary nose turret, with the result of achieving 4 times less shooting accuracy, when compared to the Ka-50.

This is possible only on heavy overlimits. They lost two Ka-50s during test, because pilots tried to put this bird over it's speed and g limits. But all in all I think thats is great helicopter.

No helicopter is impervious to gunfire & the 1 that is (total armor) would be too heavy to get off the ground. Whether you get hit or not has nothing to do with what you're flying, it's the pilot flying it that's to blame.

The best there are K50 takes only one person to control and it has an ejection seat. Vertical acceleration is twice faster than opponents + it is super maneuverable that is why NATO code name is HOKUM. It is unique among gunships. It is better than western analogs by every parameter. "Please make research," that was a little cocky of you. The coaxial rotor design is more efficient and stable than the traditional main-tail rotor design. But that is where the advantage for the Ka-50 ends. In relation to the latest and greatest the USA has to offer, the AH-64D, the Ka-50 is lacking and would be a better challenger to the AH-1.

But if you want to compare the Ka-50 to the AH-64, the scenario shouldn't be AA combat. It should be air-to-ground.

It is currently the most advanced battle helicopter around. Its also the first and only helicopter to have ejection seat. It doesnt need any vulnerable tail rotor.

Go the Werewolf....gotta be careful tho' when you "lock on" to a target, it engages the auto pilot and the whole bird goes gung ho to hunt it down...a little scary at first....
