Great song from another time. I remember when Steve Masters, Rob Francis, Audio Videa, and others used to play all those great tracks. Great 80's memories.I actually recorded a number of the shows- usually Friday nights as I recall (well at least the first 45 minutes since cassette tapes were that long on one side). I still have most of those cassettes somewhere. I'm pretty certain I have this song on one of the recorded shows. At least now with youtube I don't have to go hunting down this song.
This was the #1 song in the Top 105 Countdowns several times. I still have my ordered playlists in paper form. I used to send in my top 5 for prizes. Interned at 105 in 98'. This song was so rare, yet so popular on this station. This is when radio was compelling, risky, and created an audience (playing imports you could not even BUY!, imagine THAT NOW?). I play these songs on my radio show in Portland, OR and these tracks at New Wave City when I DJ every few months in SF. Still love this music!
Love this song! Thanks to Steve Masters. I found the 12" EP in a London record shoppe while on holiday in 1989 and still have it in pristine condition.
Hooray!!! The internet does have *everything*!!! Except a way to purchase this song electronically. Doesn't anyone want to sell mp3's of this song??? You'd make TENS, nay DOZENS of dollars!!
Thanks to Steve Masters, Big Rick Stuart, Audio Vidya, and the rest of the crew at Live 105 back in the late 80's and early 90's! You all made radio so fun!
This song brings back great memories of living in San Mateo, listening to Live 105 in 1987 (in the "Good Ole Days" of pre-Grunge, pre-"Alternative" MODERN ROCK), and dancing to it for YEARS on stage at The Vortex (then it became The Edge), The Palladium, Club X/ The X (both the 3rd & Harrison AND 4th & Bryant locations), One Step Beyond, etc...
@WAIATA4U I think the other British accent guy on Live 105 was Steve Hamilton? I miss those days. The DJs would go on vacation to Europe and come back with great stuff, and the freedom to play it. Corporate radio killed that. Would we have ever heard this great song in the Bay Area without this freedom?
Hello popejp:...First, I think you meant Steve Masters. Masters used to DJ @ The Edge in Mountain View during the 90's.
The Brit Dj you're thinking is Rob Francis.
Remember when LIVE 105 was at first; "Hot Hits 105"???? Playing the Top 40 hits before changing format to "Modern Rock" in the Fall of 1986. All of a sudden, you heard: Depeche Mode, Siouxie & the Banshees, Psychedelic Furs, The Smiths, REM, as well as a slew of "obscure" bands with great music like this band.
i just signed up to you tube just so I could comment on this song! I wish I had this record!!! Oh - i have been transported back to Santa Clara University - 1987 and happy days of listening to LIVE 105. Thanks so much for posting this song!!! I WISH I COULD BUY IT. Give it to me! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT.
It's Spring of 1987, while you were at Santa Clara U., I was a freshman at Independence High School, hanging with theater kids in the quad, and this song blurring from someone's SONY boombox.
Now I recall some sophomore chic with a China doll haircut sporting a pair of RAY-BANS and wearing a "cheongsam" dress with sneakers who wouldn't give me the time or day...But I remembe her dancing to this song....Ah, the 80's.

I was only able to obtain the Art Of Mix "Repel The Spell Mix" for DJs ... this is nice to hear the original 12" !
desertlonghair 7 months ago
The Art of Mix version is pretty much the same. Calling it a mix is a stretch.

Steve M, if you're out there, thanks SO MUCH for bringing the world to the isolated ears of 80s Bay Area teens. You enriched our lives immensely.
Most gratefully,
- a gay kid from Marin.

Wasn't there another deejay on LIVE 105 with a British accent? I wanna say "Rob Francis"?
