You have to defeat him to get the ability to fly, jump real high, and dive xD without those it makes the game impossible to beat in some areas because you need them.

Well, I don't really know any cheat for health, I'm sorry... but if you want you can try with a Game Genie cartridge, if you find the correct codes and you have the original game, or if you use an emulator you can still find emulator cheat codes for the game.
