I love these guys. Love em. Best jazz I've ever heard. I play them for people who don't like jazz or even pay attention to music. i just like put it on without saying anything at dinner or something and after a while people are like "i like this" - however it is assume to use all of your attention to pick it apart. Amazing stuff - really.
this guy is a master. i love it when a musician can play a tune in an odd meter but make it sound like 4/4 like Dave Holland or this guy. This is a beautiful piece. i'm not sure what language he's speaking in either, but its sounds beautiful over this tune. bravo
Met Feranc Nemeth, the drummer at college during a jazz workshop, me and my friend talked to him for over an hour after the show the next night. One of the nicest guys I've ever met, especially being a professional musician. Played on his setup during the workshop and all his advice was constructive and practical. He drinks a lot of Coca Cola, I think it's his secret.
interesting to see how we all feel the pulse. for me, makes sense to feel it in two bars of 6/8 plus a bar of 1/8. that makes sense in my brain at least. i struggled with 6 + 7 and 13/8 is just too much to count while trying to play the tune.
hey experts! i saw this trio weeks ago in budapest, and lionel's voice was multiplied in realtime. seriously, he sung into the mic, and a choir came back! it could not be prerecorded or done by a simple harmonizer cos he was improvising, and the chords weren't always the same, but, in fact, they followed the tonal scale. and i can't think of any algorhythm either.
Harmonizer pedals do that. Preprogramming them. And if you just improvise over a determined scale, modifying the tonallity of your chops, diferent chords will come over. If you really said what i think you did, yeah, it sounds possible, completly. [No video samples of this show you went to?]
hey, no offence meant, i was just pointing out that he is african, was born in Benin and his music is very african, not really brasilian. but that shuldnt matta bcoz music is music and there shuld be no segregation and seperation of styles anyway. but i wasnt being nasty and im not an xpert i was jst trying to share some knowledge on the music:-) cnt we all jst enjoy it?? i sure do:-)
Actually, his village was heavily portugese. the beat and fingerpicking are a hybrid of both. geez, everyone is an expert and nasty about it. snobs ruin jazz.
PeteDunnham is right. 0% brasilian music there [at least, it doesnt come up here in this particular one]. And its so afranish. Sounds similar to a lot of other african musicians into jazz, just check them out right here on youtube.
It kinda pisses me off, everything 'exotic', rithmically tanged, being called brasilian. It only shows how everybody only THINK they know our music. [but they dont]
wtf, how culd any1 who actuali listens too alota music think this is in any way brasilian?? haha. its african man, listen to all the african rhythms n espcialli his singin style, evrythin about this song is african but evry1's allowed there own opinion
I don't understand what you found Brazilian about this. Its absolutely excellant...but not brazilian at all. I was thinking much more african. Very good.

Then the opposite over the head. 7+6

IMHO easiest way to count on this song is 4/4+2/4+1/8 - try it
