I think this is definitely your best style of singing Ken. Great job. I think you should do a 'how to sing like Paul McCartney' performing either Oh Darlin' or Helter Skelter. That would be very interesting. He's pushing 70 and still has a great rock vocal. Would love your opinion.
I just want to say thanks for uploading such good quality videos. I don't consider myself a singer (I'm more the guitar player/mumbly backing vocal type), but your videos are really inspiring to watch. Cheers!
@NatesRockMusic you see that purple dual rectifier in the background? It's mone and it is purple crushed velvet. There is no other one in the world like it... :-)
that was amazing! you sounded just lick Chris in some parts! great job! also, there were some moments were i could hear Dave Grohl but i didnt manage to recognize M.Shadows's singing...maybe the raspy singing? anywas... NICE ONE!
In your opinion...and to your knowledge...Is it possible for anyone to "scream" or have that raspy voice and develop it over time, or is it a skill you are or are not born with?
@TheBRYAN1582 guys, it's meant to show the "kind" of belting and glottal compression required to sing like Grohl and Kennedy (that I teach at my vocal academy). I got tired of doing covers of everyone so I decided to do an original song for a change
Very good song , and very good performence by the way ... But i think it's not like the same Dave grohl ... Maybe Chris cornell's something , the same interpretation of this album ( Audioslave - revelations 2006 ) . but really when i listen to you singing the first time , your voice remember me " Ian Astbury " when he is singing " GHOST " with slash .
@TheNameIsPascal - I'm sorry and you would know good and bad vocal technique how exactly? Your vocal covers are nothing but very low growling/screaming that lack any musicality or they are VERY off key attempts to sing Nirvana. For someone who can't even sing Nirvana - you really don't have a place to criticize anyone's vocal technique.
@TheNameIsPascal Hmmm I have over 30 CD's, have more than 700 songs in feature films and TV, have sung on every imaginable TV commercial from Ford to Pepsi to Taco Bell (four superbowl commercials) etc. etc, toured the world many times over 25 years singing night after night, and spending about a half million dollars on my voice with some of the world's finest vocal coaches, being 48 years old and still at the top of my game - I might know a thing or 2 about the voice :-)
This is good example of the first two singers mentioned in the title.... But NOT Myles Kennedy... Myles very rarely uses that raspy sound that both David and Chris use.... Good voice anyway... the only thing is a bit of throat tension that you should get rid of, in my opinion. Raspy voice is possible even with much less tension than that. Keep it up! ;)
@kentamplin Yeah, i'm not saying that your rasp is metal rather than hard rock, but Myles technique is a totally different stuff, expecially on high-notes. he doesn't use a belted mix, he doesn't use rasp. He sings in a very powerful and "operatic-like" head/mixed tone. Soft palate and things like that... Nothing, really nothing to do with Chris Cornell or Coverdale.
@Jailbreaker91 what you don't know is we all 3 studied under the same vocal coach. I have studied with many yues of course but the actual technique we all 3 use is the same. I happen to like more rasp and compression....so using the same technique I apply more glottal compression (as does Chris) Myles back in the day was more concerned with range...I was more concerned with sould / compression and a bit more rasp
I really want to sing as good as you. You see my dream is to be a singer when I get older, but I don't know if I'm singing correctly or anything >.< Help Anyone?

@Jailbreaker91 Myles, Chris and I use the same technique. I don't think Grohl has studied the voice...
I like a raspier sound. Not M Shadows raspy but Coverdale - Paul Rogers raspy...

@kentamplin Grohl has pretty good natural talent (he has improved A LOT), I agree with you about these though.
Adding rasp is tricky without running through a risk of hurting your voice.
