This is the retelling of the "Lonely Hearts Murders" of the late 40's and early '50's by Martha Beck and Raymond Fernandez. While it's barely remembered today, it was tabloid fodder back then. They were tried and convicted in Bronx Criminal Court and executed in the electric chair in Sing Sing on March 8th,1951. BTW,Martha Beck looked NOTHING like Selma Hayek. See the pictures of her at the website: frances farmers revenge dot com slash stuff slash serialkillers slash marthabeck dot htm.
@ fangjangler - That would be Willie Francis, whose first execution attempt in 1946 in St. Martinsville, Louisiana did not go to plan due to the wires on the portable electric chair not being routed properly. His attorneys filed a challenge with the US Supreme Court claiming a second attempt would be unconstituonal, but the court deemed otherwise. Francis went to the chair a second time in May, 1947 -- this time it worked.
@jump1278 There was a black guy who screamed that he wasn't dying, his name was Willie something... Only man to be executed by the electric chair twice, because it was botched the first time.

The only actress who could have possibly portrayed Martha Beck with any level of realism wes the late "Mama" Cass Elliott.
