  • First read the play and pick up as much as you can. Next, watch the whole play; you will pick up more from the way they say the lines and from actually seeing what is happening. Then go back and read the play again. Understanding Shakespeare takes time for anyone. As with any play, the key is to understand the motivation of the characters. In synopsis, Anthony & Cleopatra are madly and helplessly in love with one another, but neither trusts the other.
