  • Did Bix ever play with Ben Pollack--or would that time be after he died?

  • Thanks for posting this - It's referenced in The Glass Menagerie.

  • im in the bix biderbecke memorial youth jazz band and we just finished at the bix festival yesterday. we played this song im excitec to hear that the piece that we have is pretty much the same. thanks for posting i was really glad to get to hear it other than what i hear of us playing, which isnt much cuz im concentrating on my part lol

  • This is music at it's best in my opinion. No effects, no amps, no mixers, just the real deal.

thanks to my folks for having a wide selection of music to listen to.

  • Thanks MA & Pa for my musical life & taste. Love from your son George

  • Flawless arrangment and performance.

Noticed that the proprietor here, a Mr. Figg, is a resident of the UK. A number of the other valuable sites I frequently visit for quality music also have a British location. . Was aware the jazz has long had a following in England, but perhaps I had always underestimated it. Anyway, I'm certainly appreciative.

Triviata: Is it Dardenella in the UK though it's Dardanella elsewhere?

  • I just love the structure of this great tune, and this rendition is superb!

    Thanks for sharing.

  • [RCA] Victor didn't release this until 1936 {25238}, almost five years after Bix's death...Bill Challis wrote the arrangement. Remember that, during the '20s, Whiteman performed what he termed "symphonic jazz"; big orchestra featuring jazz-flavored arrangements and soloists (like Bix, Tram, Leibrook, Rank, etc.). His sound may seem "ancient" today, but it was part of what "The Roaring 20's" sounded like!

  • Thanks for posting this song! Bix's solos are amazing, you couldn't believe it was recorded in the late twenties! He was sooo ahead of his time.

Whiteman gave a home to many great musicians-Hoagy Carmicheal, the Dorsey's, Gene Krupa,Bing Crosby, even Artie Shaw played with him for a short while.

    Thanks again!

  • You are welcome

  • Paul Whiteman should not be known for his music but rather for giving Bix a home. Armstrong sumed it up when he was dying when he stated that I will be playing with soon with Bix

  • @joomuck What a tragic, short life this great musician, Bix Beiderbecke, had. I was introduced to his music through the efforts of people like Mr. Figg on You Tube. Thank you!

  • Hi MoleDFigg........

This was recorded on Februaury 9th 1928
