  • Some of the comments on here are quite insulting , this band practice on a Tuesday , with a mixture of learners , and some very dedicated long term ringers . They also turn up on a Sunday and Ring to ' call people to church ' . Anyone whos ever attended a practice night , will tell you they will accomodate , and welcome any Bell Ringer , with open arms . They are really good people , with big hearts , who have time for everyone . So for the advanced , give them a break .

  • No one is forcing you to watch it , so do something else , and being the polite person that I am I won't make any suggestions .

  • this is painful to watch

  • God can kiss my ring xxx

  • What's the use of posting comments like pretorium's? Those who can tell the difference between good striking and otherwise don't need it pointing out to us, and those can't - why bother telling them anyway?!

Here we have a band doing their best with an extremely heavy, awkward old eight. With pretorium's extensive experience as a tower captain, he should know encouragement works best!

  • I don't know what you are talking about....

  • I see.

  • It is a great shame . However I don't think it is worth worrying about .

  • what shame to see so much bickering over a wonderful art for the glory of god.

  • 1. I haven't a clue as to who you are .

    2. I'm in no rush to find out.

    3. I don't ring peals any more.

    4. If I did decide to ring another peal it wouldn't be with miserable people !

  • wow.....welll if thats the cost of good ringing I hope I never ring a peal with you. Btw.. nice pic of Nottingham Town Hall on yout profile - but there again I'm so sad I shouldn't like nice pics like I like nice ringing should I?

  • Well it does take all sorts I suppose

  • well I like to hink I'm not a sad person...but when I was a Tower captain I wouldn't even let the ringers go off into any method until the rounds were right. If the ringer of the 4th wasn't pulling tongues at the camera instead of his bell the go off might have been better because there were enough people struggling at it was..

  • Get over yourself you sad person!

  • @pretorium I can imagine your sort bell ringing is supposed to be fun as well as constructive and doing something for the church and community, I bet you were one of those tower captains who was like a marine drill instructer frightening ringers by being too strict and shouting at them.

It doesn't sound that bad at all they seem to be enjoying themselves and the striking isnt bad at all its casual ringing on a practice night not a ring for the queen or something - lighten up.

  • @SrWilson3s What his ringing is like is irrelevant. Any fool could could tell they are ringing these too bloody fast!

  • @irkibby It is a bit yea but cmon bell ringing is mean't to be fun I think some people take it way too seriously and plus in general anyway the more pressure a ringer puts on his team the more likely they will screw up.

  • The Big 'un in the corner sets the pace!

  • You sound like a sad person .

  • Bunch of sally-ticlers & bell floaters really

  • not the best ringing you say..... understatement of the year I think!

  • Deeping St James are the best 6 I have rung on.

  • To get to the top you do go near to the ringing room , but i do know that when ringers have to up to the bells they come down from the RR and then go up up a spiral staircase . Thanks for your comment .

  • They are a fantastic ring . What's your home tower ?

  • I've rung these bells too they are a great ring of 8 and as stated already the worlds heaviest 8.

  • I agree with the comment about ringing them too fast. Bells like this need good "bell control". The tenor is trying to set the pace (rightly so!) but the lighter bells will not let it!

  • You are absolutely right . Problem in the video is that it is a learning piece , with one or two inexperienced ringers . What I would like to do at some point is to get an outside recording with a really good band really striking some triples on them . Anything that is apart from Bob Triples .

  • Hi ,

Thanks for your message . Rang at at Deeping about 1973 . Can't remember a thing about them . Sherborne are rather fine , often spoiled by ringing them too slowly . They sound best when pushed along a bit .

  • Don't know didn't ask them , and being a visitor it was not for me to ask it . If I go to a tower as the guest of ringers on their practice night it would be rude to question what they doing , even if I didn't approve of it. I find slow ringing tedious and the beauty of the bell music is lost .

  • did it occur to any of these people that they might be ringing them too fast?

  • do they ring all eight on a practice night I was once told they only ring six.

  • assuming it would be the front six and not just the back lol

  • really nice bells!

  • They are the heaviest ring of eight in the world , tenor weighs a bit over 46cwt .

  • Blimey! Theese sound quite heavy.

    what weights the tenor?
