@vitalsigns1 doesn't he mention tal was in a hospital room? He wasn't at Full game, and a title game requires vast preparation and is over 10 games long so there can be no arguement as to who to the rightful champ is.

Perceptive comment concerning the psychological aspect of certain plays. Well said throughout. Often,Fischer tactfully refrained from selecting the most effecient lines when he was assured a victory. In other words, Fischer used stylistic play as a psychological tool and display of superiority. I suspect he also held onto his best cards/lines, preparing for future play. He accused the Russians of such tactics, and I assume the mighty Fischer had the guile to return the Russians in kind.

great commentary as usual. i have to say i loved bit in the beginning about the relationship between tal and fischer. it's the little things like this that make an already beautiful game that much more enjoyable. :)

Hi Boudie; yes, that's true! There is an explanation. Firstly, he was only 26 when the book was published but, more importantly, the games are listed chronologically and I have started at the beginning of the book!
