I love her deep thoughts and insightful view on important issues in society and on religious institutions. She is very eloquent and what she is explaining is very well considered. Anyway, she has talent in many ways. And her inspirational seems to get never empty! I feel normally attracted to Tori Amos.;-) because she is a woman of genius.
CCarmen, you've absolutely nailed it - Tori's inspiration is a force that can't stagnate - she has to move WITH it as it presents itself, otherwise it's lost. As a poet over the past 18 years, I understand that all too well - if you get stuck in a particular thought channel and ignore the new material coming to you, you might never have the privilege of receiving that material again. It's that spontaneous.
I think I understand more ow, and I'm pretty sure I'm falling in love w/ the album. Some somgs I already love. Tori, this is lovely. i'm sorry for all the bad things I sid, but You know I will always, always have your back!
does anyone know who this new "doll" is that's popping up in the visualettes? She has dark hair with severe baby doll bangs a la uma thurman in pulp fiction - She's in Police Yourself @ 7:22 with the lolipop looking into the security camera and again flying the plane in Fire to Your Plane at 8:12 - she seems pretty sweet :)
I'm soooooo glad you pointed that out, because that relieves me in the sense that there actually are other people out there who really care to dig deeper than just a first-listen impression. I think so many declared "fans" are so caught up in their own angst that they feel they should arrest her self-development just so she'll continue to express angst in the same level of their understanding, failing to see she comes back fiercer every time. This IS art!
@CCarmen yeah, back in 2005 or so (maybe it was later than that, I don't know), someone left a mailing list that I was on, saying something about how he was leaving the list (and thus the fandom) because he couldn't enjoy her music anymore because it's not the same "me me me" stuff that everything prior to Scarlet's Walk was, and how oh so brokenhearted he was about it. I couldn't help but laugh. the dude is severely missing out now. SEVERELY.
I agree it's art but art should be understandable for everybody not only for the die-hard fans. If you're open to it I think everybody could enjoy this album :-)
Indeed, it's only a matter of being open to it. I guess what ferrinho said was that for people who have been following her career from the first days, there are ellements of this album which make more sense than it might for, say, somebody who's only began to get acquainted to her work and have a fixed idea that Tori = Piano ballads.
For me the best of all is the analyses that Tori made about the Little Earthquakes era until now - the process of finding her voice! Amazing work - thank you for post it!!!
