  • I owned a modified Commodore for five years. After getting myself into a situation where my car is probably now a cube somewhere, I had to go car shopping. I drove everything I could get my hands on. Lancer Ralliart (couldn't afford an Evo so why bother driving it?), VE Calais V8, Chrysler 300C, Ford G6E Turbo etc. I now own a G6E Turbo. I have no brand loyalty. I buy what is, in my opinion, the best car for the money. I'm certain I made the right choice.

  • @frontbum666 ,you could Custom-order holdens from the factory ,the 5l had the 350 or 400 turbo Auto. If you put a B&M shifter , drag and strip kit in them and had a Edelbrock Intake Manifold ,balanced crank and mild cam, tuned extractors like mine did ,it will do 0-100 in 6sec. I have driven Holden 2009 Monaro ,nissan and ford.

  • I just took my old man's g6et for a drive, feels and sounds just fantastic, and very comfortable when you just put it in 'D' and relax a bit. (He said he had it tuned up to 330KW so I can't really comment on the engine too much given that I've never driven a stock xr6t or g6et before until today)

    Comfort and style, and goes like an M3 for about 1/3 of the cost.. what a buy!

  • @BAwithBALLS hehe no way man these things dead stock with handle 600KW no problems... stock they are about 270KW but just a couple adjustments, ECU and increase boost to 12 or 15 psi should see 350+ KW easy, after that you get into replacing engine components, increasing intercooler size, intake etc... but these things are all round bullet proof

  • @BAwithBALLS i just got a call from a mate of mine who had his FG xr6t in at the tuning shop, they had it at 340KW without needing to replace anything at all, anything higher they recommended replacing the injectors and the intercooler piping, that was it.. so yes, these things should see about 350KW stock, and there are plenty of vids and articles of 600KW xr6t's still using the stock gearboxes, clutch, diff, everything... the cars themselves will handle 600KW..not sure where ur getting ur info

  • @BAwithBALLS what did u think i meant by stock? i went on to clarify i meant everything other than engine when i said after 350KW you start looking at replacing the intercooler, piping, engine components, injectors, air intake..probly turbo as well, etc. 340KW sounds about right by just adjusting boost to 17 or 18psi... and fyi unless someone says specifically 'at the wheels' 'x'KW is considered flywheel HP not wheel HP

  • @battlefever91 yeah mate when talking power these days everything in tuning shops and forums and everywhere else is talked about in REAR WHEEL KILOWATT and thats the reading a dyno gives you,18lb of boost on a stock FG turbo??is your mate mad?they will not hold that threw the entire rev range i guarantee you,and tell him to source a new one coz he'll need it 12-24 months,mate ive been around alot of tuning shops forums you name it,i know what these cars can do and cant do.

  • @BAwithBALLS 18pound boost is perfectly possible, how long it will last like that is irrelevant, the tuning shops don't care - it's exactly why the moment you alter something on the car the warranty goes out the window because any work done reduces the life of most of the parts..even putting an exhaust on wrecks the warranty..and if you said "the dyno measured 340KW" then yes that usually means 'at the wheels', but otherwise its not considered "at the wheels" unless you specifically say so

    Yeah.. nah at the 18psi.. sorry, but that tune must not be reading right then. There have been numerous claims, and I experienced it first hand with my FG XR6T of the intercooler piping bursting (splitting in half) at around 13psi. If he has nothing BUT a tune at 18psi, that thing will blow tomorrow, or the next day. Intercooler & intercooler pipes is the first thing you need after 15psi. The stock actuator will also need to be replaced with a higher load one..

    My car was running 337rwkw (about 600hp at the flywheel) with tune, 60lb injectors, high-capacity actuator, 4" hi-flow CAT, 4" dump pipe, CAI kit, stage 2 intercooler, intercooler replacement pipes (they busted at 12psi for me) and custom exhaust. 350kw at the engine is possible with just a tune, but not at 18psi.. your friend is talking shit.

  • Mate not bad 4 a stocker... although i'm in two minds about getting the FG with the smaller turbo, as my BA turbo is so so so much faster too 100k's (modded) with the 4sp & 2800rpm convertor... and it will loose traction from 0-two about 170k's ... FG's need a larger turbo 2 get the top end power, where as a nice modded ba/bf will have power all through the rev-range 2 about 370 rwkw os so.....but who gives a fuck really.... the FG is a nice car.

  • @frontbum666 the turbo is smaller and after 320rwkw(ish) people are looking to bigger turbos... but for me this is stock as rock and doesn't need to be touched it is a daily driver that I'm really happy with as is.

  • @timbos99 yes mate they are very, very nice stock standard, but i will be looking at modding my new FG 50th turbo soon, with standard turbo.(diveline warranty voided) With the gearing in the ZF i think it will be a ballsy car...hoping for around 310-320rwkw and at this power level it may well be faster than my old BA with 350 rwkw. All in good fun though aint it :))

  • @frontbum666 really are u joking.. a turbo costs around 2.8k with the fg u get the 6 speed and a engine with stonger internals i've seen a stock g6e turbo motor hit 480rwkw all they did is gt42 garrett turbo on 17psi, turbo back exhaust, 044 fuel pump n 80lb injectors, 1200hp intercooler and tune the g6e turbo, its good for 260-290 rwkw sotck with just a tune! how can you even compare the ba to a fg im not saying the ba is a bad car, but what u just did is compare a modded ba to a unmodded fg!

    that it has,(the touque is the main thing i like and my BA has 880nm @ 3K) yes you can get more out of it at the expense of reliability as with throwing on a GT42 on an FG and geting480rwkw....BTW I now have an FG50th anniversary turbo as well... and yes it go's very fucking good for a stock car... am looking forward to voiding my warranty with some procces west gear, with standard turbo

  • When several hot Euro sedans can do under 5 secs 0-60 (or 0-96kph). Its a great effort and anyone would find it very quick for a beefed up sedan but just a reminder to people that theres a little way to go yet. Also unrelated but its a source of some embarassment that Australian runs are usually only upto 100 because of our strictly enforced speed limits and to a lesser extent our "she'll be right" approach to quality of road surface. Lazy leaders who dont mind giving police more work.

  • Couldn't agree more. VZ Calais with the brillantly laid out centre console (and with black colouring and gloss sorround) beats VE anyday. VE look good in the flesh and the interior is better in real-life than in pics but I think the VY-VZ interiors just looked better laid-out and as a result could give a perception of good quality (when it comes to things like quality, I think perceptions are important).

  • @Redblower the turbo peaks 533Nm of torque from 2000rpm. You obviously have no idea so go drive one then come back here an you can apologise to me... no dick swinging or offence, it just clear that you don't have first hand knowledge & experience to make judgement on this car.

    The funny thing is it smokes both tires in a rage of fury whilst taking about 2secs to get to 60km/h. However that is useless around town so I drive it mildly to return 11ltr/100km in city driving... true story that.

  • @timbos99 I went and borrowed its cousin the XR6T (which has a LSD so no wheel spin) for the day like you suggested.

    If you rev it and hold the brakes on take off then you'll get 5.6-5.8 to 100.

    But if you dont then its 6.0-6.2 0-100km/h with wot.

  • @Redblower you clearly don't know what an LSD does. My AE86 has a limited slip differential but I still get wheel spin. A drag on an even surface won't even activate the LSD. I bet your arab cos arabs like to talk shit.... i know lots of arabs and its funny when they have to eat their words. or when they buy a car thinking its the good version but then realising its the shitest one.

  • @timbos99 Very nice car. I should know, I use one as a cab. The only thing I can fault it with it is the lack of a VLSD in the back. Not even a factory option for this car. Wet weather + DSC, little tyre spin is fine, but as soon as theres just a LITTLE bit of angle, bang, it kills the power and doesn't go anywhere.

  • @pilotboy84 don't know if I have an older tune but in the 2.5yrs I've had it, I've never had a powercut from DSC. It doesn't intervien at all unless both let go. Other cars I've had a much different story - sitting dead in the middle of an intersection....

    Lack of LSD is a pain but can be installed cheaper that factory option in some cases. Having said that I have never thought I needed LSD as its a really tight diff. Only thing that shits me is the diff clunks on power on/off.

  • @timbos99 I had it happen to me just recently, mind you i have a 2010 FG G6ET. Only when both tyres let go, and it starts sliding, it will automatically cut the power and kick it straight. Which is kinda annoying

  • @pilotboy84 Its a good thing, means its doing its job. In sports shift it will give you more leeway. If your planning on cutting loose hold down the DSC button & its turned off. I had a commodore that as soon as 1 wheel would spin, power to both is cut - that sucks.

  • Definately have to get the V8 with the Holden to keep in competition with the turbo, though the turbo seems the best of the Australian performance engines nowdays for practical reasons as much as performance. The Calais V6 however is actually a decent proposition with the 5 speed auto but the Falcon XT even would be a decent all-rounder whilst Omega falls well short in that regard, so I guess Falcons on top and to think even the BF was still worthy competition to the VE. Lets hope Di V6comessoon
