I have a paddle type door handle for the main entrance, it wont open from the inside unless you left the handle upward then push down then the door will open. Sometimes you would have to do it acouple more times to get the door open, any ideas on how to fix it beofre I go buy a whole new assembly?
I easily fixed my doorknob that's been left broken for weeks now after watching this video... thank you so much! and I WILL subscribe to your newsletter :D
What about taken that type of door knob off. I looking to change locks with the very same style you showed there. However can't seem to see where it all comes apart. I can get one side off but the other remains tight??
This was a lifesaver! We couldn't figure out to dismantle the door knob; and then we found your video and were able to do it in less than two minutes!

I have a door stuck in a closed position, the latch just won't open when either side of the handle is turned. I wanted to remove the knob but didn't know how, couldn't remove the handle to get to the screws. I'll try again, thanks a lot :)....!!!!!!
Thank you so much. I spent hours trying to figure out how to remove my door knob because you could not see the screws on the outside. Wow. less than 10 minutes I remove the old one and put in a new one after watching your video. You are lifesaver.

Thankyou for this video--I had a door knob with a cover plate hiding the screws and other videos seem to only show how to remove door knobs that have openly accessible screws. It was a relief to finally find your instructions!
I have a problem where my bedroom door locks itself. It's very old, and I usually have it open. How can I REMOVE the locking mechanism so it opens and closes like normal?
I have a double lock door knob. My partner used your video to repair the loose knob handle. It worked; now I feel secured at my dorm. . . You're channel is awesome !!!

After 5 years of dealing with a loose ancient doorknob I've finally fixed it thanks to this video. Speaking of ancient, when was this video filmed. It looks like it was filmed in the early 90's. Thank Tim!
Also, is it possible to replace an old doorknob with a new one or would you have to drill a new lockset hole?
@mirali93 It was taped about nine years ago. More pounds and no white hair! If the hole requirements are the same, you can change out a tubular lockset.

Awesome video, allowed me to fix my door handle before leaving on vacation! Wouldn't want to leave a wobbly door handle behind for people to mess around with!! Thanks a lot-lot-lot!!
thanks. fixed my doorknob using this method (with a scissor, needed to improvise lol). anyway the only problem was that the middle part that you press to lock the door got stuck.
Out of ALL the videos that ive seen this is the ONLY one that helped me out. After destroying part of the door knob. I decided to search for an answer on here. Ive checked like 30 videos. THANK YOU!
My door is loose. My two year old daughter can open the door by pushing the door. How can i lock the door and prevent my two year old daughter from going in.
Ok, I found the little hole that is supposed to be pressed in. However, when I press it in, I can't get anything to slide right off like in the video. I push it in, and almost nothing moves. The plate comes away from the door, but I'm apprehensive to move it too far away, out of fear I might break something. Thoughts?
I have been battling my 1948 doorknob for 2 years now. All I needed to see was that little button and your flat head screwdriver and I went,..."ooooohhhhhh" I ran to my tool kit, and wouldn't you know it, the handle popped right off, and I fixed the door.
The beauty of YouTube. You're welcome and you should send a Thank You to YouTube for hosting the videos for free. I'd also appreciate it if you would tell all about my website, as traffic there allows me to make these videos available to you at no cost. The website is AsktheBuilder.
My door knob actually has a allen screw that holds into place, that I didn't know was there until I saw your helpful video. Until I saw your clip, I didn't know what to do. Thank you for sparing me hours of fustration.
Yeah I've done this a million times but how about when the little set screws don't hold the square threaded rod in place??? My house is 100 years old and all Lowe's can tell me is "change the lock, we don't sell that kind anymore". Maybe Loc-tite super glue is the way to go??
Thanks Tim. I would have never been able to fix mine without watching this video. For other people out there that have no holes at all on the doorknob (like mine) I ended up just turning the cover plate (or I think Tim called it the escutcheon plate) and it ended up hitting a spot where the plate popped out about a quarter inch from the door which exposed a little lever that I moved up about an inch with a small screwdriver and this allowed the door handle and the cover plate to be removed
I must have cheap doorknobs or something! There are no screws in the plate, nor is there a slit to put a little screwdriver in. What there is, is a teeny little nipple-like thing that, when pressed in, allowed me to remove the knob. But I can't get the plate off because I can't hold the "nipple" in with one hand and still use a tool in the other hand to pry up the plate. HELP, please!!!
There is no screw. There's a tiny hole in the center of the door knob, and I found a teeny-tiny screw driver that fits inside, but all it does is wobble around in there. Nothing loosens up or comes unattached. Any other suggestions?? Please and thank you!
There are either two screws that are visible on one of the round plates that fit against the door, *or* one of the knobs slides off after you discover the release pin. You need to be more creative in your thinking. Imagine how it was put on. Good luck.
In my case, the problem is that the door handle has come off and I am trying to put it back on. However, the little pin (spring) that is supposed to keep the handle in place, doesn't seem to be working properly. It is permanently depressed and doesn't pop out when the handle is inserted. Is there still a way to fix it or do I need to replace it. Thanks for your help.
This is a super helpful video! Thanks!!! If only we had more of these types of handles in our house... For better or worse, we have a home with mostly antique door hardware, all of it poorly installed (or re-installed after a paint job before we moved in). I'd LOVE it if you did a video on how to tighten antique knobs, especially those with a lock under the handle that turns like a bathroom set.

hey, i happened to drop my doorknob, i think its a yale, maybe. and the whole thing just fell apart into pieces. i dont know how to fix it. i got the pieces complete and i dont know where to start, please help..... thanx...
An ATV ran into my front door... Don't ask. The latch(The spring that pushes the latch to keep the door from sliding open) That is bent and how can I fix it, I got the dents out but the door won't open. Is there a way I can fix it cheap or do you think I damaged the internal components?
Finally replaced a broken knob that had been bugging me forever-- hadn't done it because I assumed it would be too hard. I watched this and did it no problem. Thanks!
