Well it depends on your violin teacher. If you get a violin teacher you will be great in no time. If you dont have a teacher just make sure to practice and get advice from fellow violinist. The little thing you do wrong in the beginning can set you back a couple years to fix. Meaning that you have to make sure that your bow hold and the way your violin is right or you will have problems in the future. I hope this helps!

Yea I have a private teacher. I have always hads teachers. It is very hard to learn without one. If you dont have one you could develope a habit that could take years to get rid of. I have been playing for 17yrs.

So far i have been playing for one year without instruction. It will take me another 2 years to get a decent playing skill. I practice on my own trying to understanding the mechanics of it from ground up, and develop my ear through listening to music in my sleep. I believe when the first violin was created someone must have developed a skill by themselves. The teaching methods came later. It can be done without sheet music and teachers.

Yes its true in the beginging people learned without teachers. But those were the people where their methods are known today through teachers. I seriously recommend getting a teacher. the basics are so important to learn. If you develope one thing wrong it could take months to years to correct. Get someone to at least teach you the proper position. Without guidance this could hurt your tone and how good you could be meaning the wrong hand position could make it that you could never play fast.
