  • I was ther in the Omni that night. The Andersons and Assassins had to stay in the ring until the APD restored order and cleared most of the fans from ringside. Similar to another match I attended when the Andersons broke Dusty's leg.

  • These are the good old days in the NWA when cage matches meant the guys were forced to stay and fight until the score was settled. No escape the cage to win like the pussy wwe rules. The whole point of the cage was to stop outside inteference and the bad guy from leaving and taking a cheap count-out loss. The bad guys would try to climb out and escape but that was just to get over the cowardly heel persona, they never made it. They were forced to stay and fight. To hell with the pussy wwe rules.

  • Angles like this made wrestling seem so real. Dusty Rhodes sure made fans believed that wrestling real. I was truly convinced as a child & was scared and horrified when Dusty Rhodes was doubled team & bleeding.

  • @lovejava04 it was real at times ole doesn't like rhodes and at best had alove hate relationship with him.

  • Ole was badass.

  • I was there that night and I remember thinking somebody was gonna get hurt, especially Ole.Great times.

  • You want Dusty you want Lars you don't know who you want.

  • Years later history would repeat itself as Flair along with Ole and Arn Anderson would do the angle where they injured Dusty's ankle setting up the match at Starrcade 85 and, more importantly, was the beginning of the Four Horsemen. In fact, they nearly had a riot that night as well.

  • These were the days, my friends.

  • 5 heels in the ring, 2 of which are refs, bhow do you not see him about to get beaten down?

    \

Are those legite fans also trying to storm the cage?

  • @mrpogo72 In my opinion, you KNOW you're seeing pro-wrestling at it's FINEST, if NOT ONE of it's FINEST, moments when the FANS leave their seats, try to climb the cage to "help" the hero(s) or "babyface(s)!"

  • @mrpogo72 OH YES! Fans trying to get into the cage! In my opinion, THAT'S something that you NEVER, EVER hear or see fans doing TODAY! Heck, if anything, I'll bet a lot today's fans DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW to CLIMB a cage!

  • wow a 5 on 1 on dusty if you rthink about it howd he not end up on a douvle cross lol

  • The heat Ole could generate could light NYC!!!

  • Wow, this brings back memories. I have been a big Dusty Rhodes fan my entire life and I have a top ten list of greatest moments in wrestling history. #1 was Dusty winning NWA title, and this moment. Dusty's battles with Superstar Billy Graham at Madison who is Mike Graham's uncle. The wars with Rick Flair, The fueds between Dusty, & Ole when the 4 horsemen were created. It's great seeing this again makes me think back to when I was kid and saw it for the first time. Truly a treasure, thanks.

  • What an AWESOME angle! I was only 2 months old at the time, but watching and reading about this angle just shows how much HEAT and intensity it had. Love the clip!

  • This was a damn good heel turn...I betcha at this time there was nearly a riot..

  • @rtenny7 Speaking of a riot, remember when the four horsemen attacked Dusty Rhodes and Ric Flair broke Dusty's ankle (inside a steel cage)? To paraphrase Ric Flair, "As we were making our way back to the dressing a (full scale) riot broke out. No avoid getting attacked ourselves, we had to be 'flanked by venue security or police." When was the LAST time a (full scale) riot broke out a modern WWE event?

  • @AngelofAnguish I was actually there for both the matches and it wasn't really a full scale riot. In both cases APD lost control of the ringside area and too many angry fans crowded around the ring. It definately wasn't safe for the bad guys to try and leave through that crowd. Both times the police needed reinforcements to clear ringside before they could escort the guys to the back.

  • The days when angles didn't insult your intelligence on a weekly basis.

  • I agree! In my opinion, watching THAT (piece) of footage PROVES or CONFIRMS (just) how much wrestling has gone from WRESTLING to "sugar-coated, pre-teeny-bopper and teeny-bopper, sh*t!

  • If i was trying to get in the Business these days, i would study as much as i can of the classic era. The psychology was stronger and subtler.

  • as a child, you SERIOUSLY thought that Dusty was going to be killed. This seemed soooooo real. Crazy lol

  • it was real not laughing anderson and dusty really don't like each other!

  • @mrhollister09 You hit the nail right on the head bro. The blood in the white-blonde hair of Dusty and Ric Flair on a regular basis was almost terrifying as a kid.

  • @mrhollister09 it was real jody didn't like rhodes and worked very stiff with him!

  • I remember this.....

If Lars didnt come help, Dusty was dead...

  • Fantastic Heel turn. I have to rank that one as one of the best heal turns ever.

  • Totally agree. Ole and Dusty had this in mind for over a year.
