Your tank is good the only bad things is you need a better filter something that shoots water out into the water to create a high flowing stream. Look up on Petsmart turtle clean 501 this is a really good filter. Map turtle need a lot of oxygen because where they live are in fast streams! ;)
wow:D! Nice set up..Do you recomend this breed of turtle? Are they genrenally easy to look after?! I am looking for some turtles and these seem the most attractive and they don't get too big!:)
That is an awesome setup!! What kind of filter were you using here and how often did you have to clean it. (I'm thinking of getting 1 or 2 Map turtles soon) I know I'd need a bigger tank.
im sick of people saying 10 gallons per inch of shell. if you have baby turtles you dont need a massive tank right away, yes a decent sized one like 20 gallons but as long as you up grade when you need to no problem. i personally have four baby terrapins in a 20 gallon tank at the mo they are about 2 month old and i will be upgrading to the biggest tank possible with the room i have. do your research and enjoy your fucking pets. nice turtles dude
hopefully they were later rescued from this tank. It's about 100 gallons too small. The rule of thumb is 10 gallons per inch based on full grown adult size.
hey am looking to buy a mapping turtle i like how u got your tank set up can u tell me a little on what filter u use what kind of plants thos are otherithings about the setup thanks
nice tank hey look into getting a fluval internal filter. i had the filter and i hated it i now have two fluval 2 plus filters and my water is super clear and i got fish in thier too besides the fluval takes up less space
hi you tubers....i have a question for turtle ppl. yesterday i got 1 yellow belly and 1 map turtle..but today the yellow belly is just sulking around the tank..the map turtle is darting around no prob....i cured the tank for 2 weeks prior to putting them in..i may have over fed them on there first day....anyway i would love some help as i dont wanna loose it.. also they wont eat the pellets only the shirmp...
map turtles grow 20cm that tank is way to small i recomend you sell your turtles by a bigger tank and keep spotted turtles wih grow 10cm or musk turtls wich grow 14cm most turtles how ever riqwire a tank the size of a bath(or barth)
Turtles are amazing pets, just be sure to clean the tank because mine tends to get real messy. YOu may also want to get a pail to take them out of the tank and feed in the pail as that is less messy for the tank.
must have really happy turtles, ive seen a few of your tanks and they all look great. im currently buying stuff for my tank before i go get my lil turtles.
a 30 gallon aquarium as a minimum (40 or larger preferred) for males, and a 75 gallon aquarium as a minimum (90 or larger preferred) for females. This will provide adequate swimming area, as well as assisting the filtration in maintaining good water quality. For additional Graptemys pseudogeographica pseudogeographica, I would recommend adding 20 gallons of tank space for additional males and 50 gallons of tank space per additional female at a minimum.
Nice warm room..No drafty windows. Every time you clean tank use those chemical removing drops.. Use a water filter to slow down bacterial growth. Repto-min turtle food gives them all that their diet needs. Give them a basking spot. Treats will keep them happy. Mealworms, river shrimp, crickets. Earthworms. Broiled chicken. Massage gently their shell with a good quality toothbrush after every tank cleaning.(Gently) to remove algea and excess bacteria.
they have a new tank now with deeper water and a basking light and its alot better and bigger i have 4 turtles now too, thats enough for me now though!
to be honest im not sure they are young my son rescued them from a boy who was keeping them in a shoe box with a dish of water and not looking after them properley so we have them now, they are in different tank now with a basking light and fish they eat ...i am not a turtle expert! but have been learning i havnt worked out the sex yet or quite how to when they are so young
3 years on they are in a 6 foot tank and swimming and bigger than my hand! and happy and healthy i have 4 now!
